Elusive, Lamentable, Arrogant, Non-existent customer services.

I am not considering buying a home from Elan and after my current experience of trying to engage with them, I’m highly unlikely to in the future. My property borders their building site to the rear and to their land, a designated wildlife area, to the side. I won’t bore anyone with the details but after months of emails, they sent landscaping contractors to remove conifers that are blocking light in my house. They were about to start work today when they received a call telling them that Elan had changed their mind. Their head office number is an 0845 number, so expensive to call. Their customer service number has a recorded message telling people to email instead. The end of the message says that they will reply within 10 working days. When I email, a reply comes from a no reply account confirming 10 working day response. They also provide an emergency number. When you ring this number, there is a recorded message telling the caller to email and they will reply in 10 working days. When I rang the only number I could find, the temp sales person told me that she had been told to tell me that I have to deal with customer services, which I would, if I could actually speak to a human being. She gave me the number for the site manager who knew nothing. The only number for head office is the 0845 number. The quantity surveyor who stopped the work refused point blank to speak to me. So, if you are going to buy a home from this company, you might want to consider how likely it is that you are going to be able to get faults etc. acknowledged, let alone corrected because this is the only method of communication that will be available to you, so good luck!28/2/23 - My jaw has just hit the floor after reading Elan’s response! I was happy with the trees being removed and have never expressed otherwise. There was absolutely NO ‘mutual agreement’ to either stop work or to reduce the height to 2 metres, which is still above my window. When the landscapers arrived this morning, I was advised that Joe Teall, Elan’s quantity surveyor has said that they had to cut to 2 metres. I would love to discuss the matter further with you.

I have had a very good experience…

I have had a very good experience dealing with Johnathan in greenside view. He has really gone extra miles helping me from the begin I reserved the property to the point I am now ready to complete. Few issue with my sale and Jonathan was there to reassure me that my plot will be reserved for me until I get it sorted. He kept me updated with all progress. And I am grateful. I hope the after sale experience will be as good as this. I will be moving in my new home in few days. I am keeping 1 star to see how the experience is like once I move in. Thank you

We looked at a property at Redwood Gardens. Although we did not proceed to a purchase the level of service we received for the sales executive named Shirley was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble for her, she answered every question from 4 members of the family and we ended up talking after the official close of business for the day. If you are going to visit the development, make sure you ask to speak to Shirley - she is exceptional.

The Team at Balmoral Gardens

We have bought a beautiful new home at Balmoral Gardens in Southport and must commend the wonderful professional service we have recieved from Rosie Tierney and Ken Bracewell-Murray, as well as the on site support and care from George Theaker. The five star review reflects their dedication and commitment but would not apply to Elan Homes, who in my view, made the whole process extremely slow and stressful for all parties and unnecessarily complicated.

Thankyou Ken, you are a credit to Elan Homes...

I first enquired back in January 2022 when I put what I thought would be my forever home on the market & was going through a breakup after 7years. I met with Ken from Elan Homes, Balmoral Gardens who has been with me every step of the way. Ken has been amazing throughout the whole process from enquiring to reserving the plot to making the purchase. He has been so helpful and reassuring. Ken made what was a sad and very stressful situation, the easiest and I will be forever grateful. Ken was always updating me and was always available at the end of the phone/email. I reserved the plot I wanted not long after I enquired and then had a nightmare with having to change Solicitors right before exchange (this was through no fault of Elans!) but Ken came to the rescue and recommended a Solicitor, and everything was just brilliant. I finally completed this week and picked up my keys to my new build! I will be in before Christmas and I cannot wait for a fresh start! None of this would have been possible without the brilliant team at Elan Homes, Balmoral Gardens, especially Ken - who even took the time to help me pick out my bathroom tiles and kitchen! Thankyou Ken, you are a credit to Elan Homes and it's been a pleasure getting to know you!

Look past the generic replies of Elan Homes

Thank you for your generic reply - and in response - The Wrea Green Sales Office promised a thorough snagging before completion to her and I quote 'very high standards' - we informed her we would be bringing in an Independent Snagging company which Elan Homes would not allow on site before receiving all our monies at completionAt the 7 day window the Site Manager was supplied with an Independent snagging list of over 200 items - of which the majority have eventually been accepted as defects - some of which we were informed were already known about at other Elan Homes sites !!!!!!The dedicated Customer Care Team responded to an email after 14 days and were not willing to receive or discuss the accepted snagging list to bring matters to a satisfactory conclusion Elan Homes have already been provided with a 'poor' rating to your outsourced After Sales ServiceBoth of these stated they would be discussing our defects with the DirectorsYour generic reply suggests this has also not happened as you only respond to Social Media comments open to public scrutiny and your reply was received within 24 hours and not the 14 days of your Customer Care TeamWe await - as we have been doing for three months now - for your Directors efforts to provide us with a satisfactory conclusion to our defective snaggings

Ken at Balmoral gardens like the rest of the Elan team were, and continue to be, very supportive, constructive and helpful throughout the purchase and sale of our houses which turned out to be more complex and difficult than expected.Some stress due to efficiency issues with Elan solicitors were handled effectively.The house finish is to an excellent standard with few snagging issues which have been quickly resolved.Nothing but praise for Ken and the team. Great Journey from House to Home!

It was a great and Smooth journey from Reserving the Plot till the Completion. Sales Manager Jonathan Sinnot was on top of this sale working closely with us, management and the site manager. Great customer service, poor workmanship

Great start to the purchase of our property in Ramsbottom thanks to our friendly and helpful sales advisor Hilary. Unfortunately Hilary left the company 2 months before legal completion and all communications, photos and updates stopped. Final completion was shambolic due to greedy Directors wanting the sale in before the December year-end. The house had clearly not been snagged by Elan, per their own procedures, as the kitchen was unfinished and there were other glaring issues.Our site manager Peter was friendly, understanding and helpful. However he was inundated with snag lists from us and other owners who were all rushed to complete at the same time, so it took a while to get everything fixed. Not his fault, he was put under immense pressure.We had no major snags but we were extremely disappointed with the standard of finish on our property given the high price tag. In particular plastering and decorating were slapdash and if we had hired these tradesmen personally they would not have been paid. Elan seem to have set unrealistic deadlines for their tradesmen resulting in shoddy work.Our experience with Customer Services was a positive one. Our main contact was Vikki who was very polite, friendly and helpful. Communication was great and we developed a good relationship with her. Our final issues took a while to resolve due to availability of tradesmen but Vikki did not take her eye off the ball. No complaints at all in this area.Overall we are really happy with our house which is in a great location with fabulous views.

Our beautiful Chadderton Elan Home

We are over the moon with our new Elan home, it is beautiful.The whole process and move has been made simple by Jonathan and the team. We know if there is anything we needed we could contact him and he would help sort it straight away. There has been some slight hiccups along the way but Jonathan and the site team have worked hard to rectify these as quickly as possible. Ken makes a real difference

My wife and I were struggling to find a home on the open market and on the off chance we contacted elan to find out some information. At the time nothing was available but Ken was more than helpful and as soon as he knew a suitable property was coming up he called us and arranged the early bird deal to secure our plot. We are just waiting for the mortgage to be approved and we should be exchanging on our brand new home. Ken is an absolute diamond, very knowledgable and honest. I couldn’t recommend elan or Ken enough and will certainly be recommending any friends or family who are looking to purchase a new home.

Balmoral Gardens

Site - Balmoral Gardens. In short, the build quality is excellent and we are now settling into our new home.The longer version. Sales, Ken has been a total professional throughout, but that’s only half the story. He has acknowledged and ensured we were protected (one of us is extremely vulnerable to Covid), but also warm and friendly throughout, going above and beyond to help our chain complete and then providing a zero contact handover on the day of completion.All site crew have been a pleasure to deal with. We have some minor works to be completed (fitted wardrobe etc), and some minor snags. George the Assistant Site Manager was in touch straight away, even noticing things we hadn’t noticed to fix and has made himself available to deal with everything we need. I was about to take a pile of rubbish to the tip and he stepped in and said he’d take it away!Elan are clearly a quality outfit, and we highly recommend. The location as well as the build is superb and I can honestly say, it’s a real privilege to now live in our dream house! Thanks!

Worst decision of our lives believing the lies this company of cowboys tell you customer care is shocking standard of work shocking the sales will tell you anything you want to hear to get you to sign but they do not tell you about hidden covenants ! DO NOT believe them when they tell you you must use one of their buddy solicitors that is a complete lie use your own or pay the price like we have done ! How anyone in this company sleeps at night is beyond me they are crooks liars and cowboys . I hope they rot in hell !!!! What ever you do make sure you fully read the toxic contracts these cowboys give you because the solicitors they insist you use are working for them even though your paying go over the contract in detail and anything you do not understand get an independent solicitor to explain otherwise believe me your lives will be wrecked like ours were ! There is not one person in this company with any moral compass they are full of lies and poor service and poor builders we have 5 leaks on one bath we have had them retake the shower and have had to rip it out and re install properly they just do not care 😡response !!! Don’t tell lies this development was only completed less than a year ago with still some outstanding issues ! The way you cowboys deal with customers at developments is individual and you do not let other resident become aware of each other’s issues which mount up ! You get away with this by saying we cannot discuss other issues due to privacy I would like to offer anyone thinking of buying from you the opportunity to come to my house and see first hand the shoddy workmanship the non existing customer care and the lies your sales people tell the victims like ourselves ! You wreck lives over profit you are nothing but scum and are a total disgrace I certainly hope karma gets to each and everyone of your company who is party to this and I hope your lives are wrecked like ours have been ! And I can catagorically state there is in no way a 90 % satisfaction rate on aigburth grange anyone wanting to see this can come to my address at number 1 . We have been looking for our home in Southport for a long time. We visited Elan homes and met Ken. I can not express enough home professional and knowledgeable he was. He was clear and concise in his explanation of the process of buying a new house. He had so much time for us to go over every detail. Ken has been there for us all the way.
