Avoid this estate agent at all costs. Our experience with Barnard Marcus was nothing short of appalling and demonstrated a level of incompetence that I didn’t think was possible from a national estate agency. We viewed a rental property with Keeva, had our offer accepted, paid a holding deposit to secure the property, met the landlord, agreed a move-in date and passed all referencing. Every indication we received was that the tenancy was progressing normally. The day before we were due to move, Keeva stopped responding to calls and emails. Concerned, I contacted the branch and spoke to Leon, explaining that we were due to move in the following day and simply wanted confirmation that everything was in order. After checking the property details, he confidently assured me that everything was fine. It wasn’t. On the day we were supposed to collect the keys, I called again and spoke to Jordan, who seemed confused and said he thought “the keys had changed hands yesterday”. When I asked whether someone else had moved into the property, he became flustered and said Keeva would call me back. After repeated chasing, Keeva finally admitted that another Barnard Marcus branch had referenced a different tenant for the same property and that they had moved in instead. Read that again. We had an accepted offer, had paid a holding deposit, met the landlord, completed referencing, agreed a move-in date and were due to move that very day, yet someone else had already been given the property. The most astonishing part is that nobody thought to tell us. Had our existing tenancy ended as planned, we could quite literally have been left homeless because of Barnard Marcus’s complete failure to communicate. When I questioned why Jordan appeared to know what had happened before she did, I was told, “Respectfully, Jordan has been on holiday, so he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” It was a bizarre response that inspired even less confidence in a process that had already fallen apart. As if that wasn’t enough, it then took a full week of repeated chasing just to have our holding deposit returned. Mistakes happen. What is far harder to excuse is a complete absence of communication, accountability and professionalism. At no point did anyone take ownership of what had happened or appear remotely concerned about the consequences for us. This was, without question, the worst experience I’ve ever had with an estate agent, and I would never trust Barnard Marcus with another tenancy.

I'd highly recommend BM as a trusted partner for both landlords and tenants - especially Leon. I had a tight timeframe due to travel, a strict checklist, and tons of questions, and he stepped in at short notice to completely turn my experience around and make the process stress-free. He carefully explained the landlord’s preferences and mapped them against my exact circumstances to align and ensure a good fit, demonstrated deep legal and local market knowledge, and went above and beyond by being incredibly patient, reassuring, and generous with his time - no question was too big or too small. Crucially, his support did not stop at handover: he made sure I felt looked after even after getting the keys. He's a phenomenal asset to the team, and a genuine professional with great work ethics who makes clients feel safe and valued. 10/10 experience, couldn't have asked for any better. Thank you!

I cannot recommend Aaliyah at Barnard Marcus South Croydon highly enough. After a frustrating experience with another estate agent who failed to secure a buyer, we instructed Barnard Marcus and within weeks the property was sold. The difference in approach was immediately apparent. Aaliyah is an exceptional Senior Negotiator. She is proactive, knowledgeable, and clearly has the trust of buyers in the area. Throughout the process, communication was consistently prompt and professional. On the occasions Aaliyah was unavailable, she ensured that another member of the team was available to pick things up seamlessly, so we never felt left without support or answers. This is a team that genuinely delivers results. If you are looking for an estate agent who will actually sell your property rather than simply list it, ask for Aaliyah. We had our placed valued and on the market with another agent. Barnard Marcus wrote to me to say they had a cash buyer specifically interested in our property. We varied our contract with another agent to allow for joint agency so we could contract with Barnard Marcus. After the contract was signed they ignored me for two weeks. There was no interested buyer. Fine, I fell for the oldest trick in the book, but as far as I'm concerned that's just dishonesty. They lied. Worse, they ignored us and had terrible customer service. Plus they got loads of details on the online listing wrong. I cancelled the contract during the cooling off period and I had to hassle them for several days (after the cancellation) to remove the listing. Unethical. Now, some brash bozo in their Southampton head office keeps badgering me on the phone. When I said I didn't have time to speak he rudely hung up. Needless to say, I don't recommend them.

I instructed the Sutton branch to sell my property and, after some discussion regarding the asking price, my flat was successfully sold. I would like to say a big thank you to the salesperson and the sales manager, who were both professional, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with throughout the process. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the sales progression at the Sutton branch, and this is the main reason for my negative review. As someone who works in the property industry, I have a good understanding of the sales progression process from start to finish. Sadly, the way our sale was handled caused my wife and me a great deal of unnecessary stress. There were repeated issues with communication and constant pressure to meet deadlines so that linked transactions could exchange and complete, allowing the agents to receive their commission. Rather than helping to move the process forward smoothly, the experience became far more stressful than it needed to be. Thankfully, everything has now completed, we have moved into our new home, and the matter is behind us. While I appreciate the excellent work of the salesperson and sales manager, the poor sales progression experience means I cannot recommend the Sutton branch as a whole.

Never use them to let your flat out they lie about tenants they are putting in

Used by my fellow homeowner & friend in our small block of flats . They lied to her told her a professional woman in her 40’s they had lined up to rent her flat . Absolute rubbish the woman that moved in very young here on family reunion visa no hate but they lied . There is now 3 adult men , that young woman & her new baby living up there in a tiny 1 bedroom flat . Noisy , other issues. I’ve complained to Bernard Marcus as a homeowner in same small block . TOTALLY IGNORED . Do not ever use them to manage your home as a rental - ever! Liars who do not care . They will know exactly the property I’m writing about in Chiswick . Near Gunnersbury station . Never bothered to address my complaint or concerns about the amount of people living in that flat with the so called ‘professional’ woman in her 40’s they said they had dealt with before & knew. Liars . The owner is trying to remove them - I hope she sues Bernard Marcus for their deceit and complete unprofessional behaviour . I will definitely back her up 100% .
