GoogleExcellent service, as always, from McHugh & Co. Paul managed the sales process brilliantly, and made sure that any potential issues were navigated safely, ensuring we exchanged and completed without a hitch. Great service, even in the difficult conditions we faced with the pandemic. Would not hesitate to recommend Paul and McHugh & Co. and look forward to working with them again in the future.

GoogleLike many other auction houses they now charge exorbitant fees even when you buy. McHugh are the worst in my opinion as they state the fees in words not numbers and they are hidden deep in the conditions of sale. Even worse they recently sold properties where the gardens were split up after they went online and the legal pack published, the land registry details not being updated 2 days before the auction. This would catch buyers out for sure.

We charge a one-off buyers fee for purchasing at auction which is very clearly detailed in our general conditions of sale and our online auctions buying guide in numerical values. What you seem to be referring to is the special conditions of sale and other legal documentation which are not prepared by us. We refer all bidders to check legal documentation before bidding. If you would like any assistance or further clarity in this matter, I can be contacted at the office on 0207 485 0112 or e-mail sean@mchughandcompany.co.uk, McHugh & Co.

GoogleI called up with a simple yes or no question about a plot I’d seen on right move. The man I spoke to was completely arrogant and condescending, very belittling and told me if don’t have the money confirmed with a lender yet or a rich grandad to bail me out don’t sign up for an auction. He does not know anything about my background or finances, then went on to sarcastically tell me how an auction works as if I didn’t have a clue. Couldn’t believe how rude he was, one star is being generous!

YellDodgy Auction,Dodgy System
Unrealistic and seems dodgy I decided to bid on couple of houses bids were going so high and ending time was supposed to be increased twenty five seconds but increased by hours without anyone bidding on the lots. Then suddenly you cant even see whats going on I thought I had a problem with my connection but then realised that their server is down. So I rang them and I had been told that their server was down and the auction was closed.

GoogleMy partner and I have just had an excellent experience with Paul Buchanan and happily been approved for a lease on a brilliant flat. Paul has been incredibly responsive to emails, and really helpful and efficient in answering all of our questions. We’ve had a hugely positive experience so far and will be recommending Paul and McHugh & Co. to others.

TrustpilotAs per other reviews
As per other reviews, ridiculous seller’s fees and a buyer’s premium to be paid without a receipt! How do they allow that sort thing to take place via their platform?
Also, baffled why they charge the buyer a fee of £1k because they repeatedly fail to help with any query, their go to predictable response to most things tends to be “you need to contact the seller’s solicitor yourself about that”.
It was my first property auction and if this is how it is, never again ;(

GoogleI'd be very careful of this "company" on 3 separate occasions I was advised the property wouldn't be sold prior. One day before the auction it's sold. Seems as though the good stock is sold prior to thier known associates. I've also noted properties coming onto auction and withdrawn prior when questioned I have been advised the seller had not passed aml checks ?!?! How that can occur is beyond me it seems there's a few ongoing investigations to these withdrawn properties

Hi there. Firstly, I note that you did not register to bid at our latest auction, or have you ever downloaded any legal packs with us in the past. Can you please e-mail me with your concerns detailing which properties this relates too - sean@mchughandcompany.co.uk

GoogleAbsolute farce! I've just finished trying to bid on today's (10 06 20) "so called" auction, just trying to get set up to be able to bid was nigh on impossible and the guide prices were way off the mark! A complete waste of my time and effort. The auction was not "live" in the true sense of the word as all properties were open for bidding for about 5 hours with no phone bidding allowed. This whole episode was ill thought out and and badly executed and I will not be using them again, I'm certain many other bidders will feel the same.

Hi Vincent. We feel we have adapted very well to meet the needs of sellers and buyers by offering our first online auction on the 10th June 2020. Just to make you aware, we have always held live ballroom auctions in the past. We felt our new platform to be the most appropriate option in the current circumstances, and as you can appreciate, we will be making some improvements to help all accessing the bid now button on our lot page in order to Log in and Register to bid. Our guide prices are set with a clear indication of being within a 10% range of the reserve price. The sale price is determined by the highest bidder once the reserve is met. The bid window is an important part of the online auction process and I can confirm we cater for phone, proxy and online bidding on our auction day. I hope this helps shed some light on the online auction process, for any further queries please e-mail me:- sean@mchughandcompany.co.uk. Sincerely, McHugh & Co.

GoogleA relative of mine sold their property through the McHugh auction. Having tried two local agents and the buyers pulling out prior to exchange of contracts taking place, we were recommended to try an auction and our solicitor recommended McHugh & Co. Wish we knew about auctions from the start, they managed to sell the property for a higher price than the previous agreed sales all in the short space of 4 weeks of receiving the keys. We were very happy with the service we received and would happily recommend.

GoogleScammy..
Hiding very high extra cost that you'll never know about somewhere on the middle of the 25th page of the 7th document attached to the 5th compartment of the "Special sale condition".
I'll try to get the Ombudsman help on this.
Avoid if you want to save your nerves and especially money.

We mention on every single lot page that there may be extra fees payable on completion and where to find them. This is also mentioned in our buyers guide which each bidder receives a copy of when registering for the auction. These fees are not associated to ourselves the auctioneers.
Thanks,
McHugh & Co.

YellThe worst agents ever
Saw 2 flats and decided to bid for them. I realised on the day something wasn’t right as the prices went really high, felt it was like it was being done internally but still decided to go ahead. Both flats went for 30k each. On their portal it says solicitor fees would be either 2.5% or SEVEN AND HALF THOUSAND POUNDS. Stupidly the 7.5k are not written numerically so it can be missed, for me it was the case. I have wasted 90k on 2 flats which are worthless. When you make a bid, you are not bidding against a person who has the same desire to buy like you to buy but bidding against a Mchugh employee who are increasing the price. I made many mistakes, all the negative comments I have seen online have happened to me. don’t make the same mistakes as me.
