The worst experience with an estate…

The worst experience with an estate agent I have had, and as we all know, that is saying something. Waiting 7 months now for return of deposit. Countless emails and phone calls to Chestertons. The lady who is my point of contact seems civil enough, and fills you with great confidence on the phone, but then nothing happens. Now either she is being given too much work, incentives for new sales and rentals are so strong that she neglects unincentivised work, or she is just incompetent. It is not for me to say which, but something is terrible wrong here. AND THE TIMES I HAVE COVERED/TURNED A BLIND EYE FOR CHESTERTONS- From the moment we turned up at our new home and the door was left open after their inventory check, I should have known what to expect. Numerous 6 month check ins were cancelled or rearranged at the last minute, and this is before we passed into the care of one particulary hapless gentleman. Paulo Machado his name was, oh boy. Called me by the wrong name in emails, multiple spelling mistakes in emails, asked if he can attend for 6 month review, changed the date, asked again, i replied within 30 minutes to say yes sure see you then, he didnt turn up, says he didnt confirm to my confirmation! Then he tried to tell me i owed an extra months rent. This went on for several days and emails until i escalated it over him and was told I am correct. I'm looking through my emails so have it here actually:Hi Dan, Paulo has sent your email across to myself, and please accept my apologies, you are not in arrears, however due to an issue with the way accounts had allocated your payment the system flagged up as such. We in fact hold a £2,000 overpayment on account for you so you need only send £100 next month. Kind regards, Siannie Clayton MARLASenior Consultant So I had already been overcharged by a month! and Paolo wanted more. Shortly after this interaction, I was informed that Paolo and Chestertons had gone their separate ways.There is more but i must bring this review to an end. I've just had a message from my old landlord actually to say that he signed the paperwork a while ago, so it looks like I will be pursuing legal action against Chestertons for withholding funds for more than 7 days after agreement. My husband and I would give 5 stars just for Sameer- he’s the most helpful and genuinely polite agent we’ve met. He provided clear communication throughout the search for new tenants to replace us and their viewing schedules. Also to Shane who has helped us during our start of tenancy without much hassle. Had to deduct 2 stars because our email asking about partial refund due to early release of the flat to the office (Stevie) was ignored despite multiple attempts to follow up.

Isabella at Chestertons in Fulham was fantastic as an agent to persevere in aiding us getting the property we wanted. Chestertons as a business was highly professional. Fantastic at communications and their portal really helped keep things on track right up to delivering the keys to the door.There is one small glitch for iphone user and Apple Macs in that it asks you for the postcode where you live/lived, which it then attempts to pre-fill your address. It was wrong on several occasions and could not overwrite but had to type blind as I could not see what I was writing as it was under a window with the incorrect addresses!

Efficient and helpful

Tamara Price at Chestertons South West lettings was incredibly helpful during the whole process. Despite the initial flat we were interested in going to another renter, she contacted me soon after with a similar flat in the same location. Three years of disappointment

After 10 years of using a cheeper agent I hoped being a landlord with chestertons would be a step up. After overestimating the rental value a tenant was finally found who then could not pay the rent after the first month. I then had three months of uncertainty, with no rent while they took all of their fees upfront, until a new tenant moved in at £300 less than I had been getting 5 years before. They charged me over £700 cleaning check in on a 4 bedroom house and allowed the first tenant to get out of paying for the check out clean despite him breaking the contract after a month. Since then they have sent in contractors that overcharged and did the same job again and again such as fitting the same security light three times and each time at a different price. There was three new property managers in two years and they all seemed to struggle to keep up with the workload. My tenant waited three weeks for them to send a contractor to fix a leak and then their contractor left without attempting to fix it! The bath was allowed to leak for over a month before I was even told there was an issue, all the while water soaked through the floor and down the wall. Despite them breaking their own terms and conditions they still expect me to pay for rent that they are no longer collecting. I was lied to repeatedly about work that was done and when the rent would come through. My tenant was unhappy and the my experience was stressful and unpleasant

I have used Chestertons for our properties for many years now and always find them incredibly professional. They do that by adhering rigidly to regulations which protect both the landlord and the tenant and this means it all runs very smoothly during the rental period. To whom it may concernI just wanted to write in and say what a fantastic service and experience Fergus Edwards gave us during viewings over the last week. Fergus showed us three properties on different dates including a repeat viewing.We made an offer on one of the properties but the offer was not successful as there were five other offers. However we have now secured a property and I give all the credit to Fegus. The information Fergus gave us and careful attention paid to our situation and list of objectives meant that we found the exact location we wanted.We met 5 agents from different agencies over the course of a week and Fergus was head and shoulders above everyone we met. All the agents were professional and efficient - however Fergus had other qualities on top of this. Fergus is unflappable! In the endless and testing process of viewing, matching requirements to vacant properties, and managing disappointment in what seems to be a white hot market in the Fulham area at the moment Fergus had boundless enthusiasm and patience.My son is now moving to Fulham and we will be frequent visitors and in the medium term will considering moving there ourselves. Fergus will be out first port of call in any future property transaction in the area!
