TrustpilotUnprofessional
I dealt with William H brown, Holderness road branch as a tenant. Firstly, they tried to scam me into buying home insurance as an essential requirement of the contract. During the tenancy my landlord was lovely and remained in touch directly, so thankfully I didnt have to deal with them. At the end, I was in huge trouble because WH brown's absolute unprofessionalism. Despite multiple calls and requests they failed to provide references for my next agent. I had no where to go for a week due to this delay. It cost me a fortune! Over a month has lapsed but they have done anything about my deposit. When asked they said to get in touch with the lamdlord directly. Whereas they were the ones processing the deposit collection initially. After sorting it with the landlord myself it was over 2 weeks without any further progress to deposit return. Really a shameful service!! Staff and service all pathetic

Its been 5 years since I moved out of a rented property by William H Brown in St Albans and I have not been refunded my holding deposit. I have contacted them severally over the phone and emails and no luck till date. Nothing but radio silence. First I was told the Landlord would be contacted to claim back the £500 or so left after she dubiously claimed damages on the property. They then later pushed it on me to speak chase the landlord to reach an agreement on obtaining my deposit back. I have used a 2026 date on my review because trustpilot doesnt allow you to go all the way back to 2021.

TrustpilotAvoid WH Brown!
Sold my house through W H Brown and they were the worst estate agent I have ever used. Communication was nil, left messages and they didn’t get back at all. Actually went 5 MONTHS with no contact! Sold my house to first viewer for full asking price so they had very little to do.When I complained to head office, they stated the branch had done nothing wrong! Obviously have low standards. Definitely an estate agent to avoid. No wonder they have a poor reputation

TrustpilotCould not have had better service
Went for a viewing on a bungalow back in the Summer and met a lovely lady called Marina from the Kingsley branch. We didn't like the bungalow but, we did like Marina and we put our house sale in her capable hands. She sold our house within a day I think and everything went really well until 6 weeks later, our buyer lost their buyer. However, about 4 weeks later, our buyer found a new buyer and we all set of again. However, due to solicitors not talking to each other and them being particularly hard to get hold off the last month or so of proceedings was very stressful and just made hard by the solicitors. However, Marina and everyone at William Browns worked so, so, so hard getting solicitors to talk and get things done and eventually, we exchanged and completed last week! The team at Kingsley worked so hard for us and went above and beyond our expectations - Marina was our main contact and I can not speak highly enough of her and would love to thank her for her straight forward talking, her honesty and her absolute dedication when it was actually quite hard work!! Thank you Marina and team ☺️ To have full transparency, the reason I could not give 5 stars was due to the solicitors we used which were recommended by William Browns - they were shocking but that does not detract for the amazing service we received

TrustpilotUseless, uncommunicative liars who are after your money.
There is a saying that "Buyers are Liars". Well trust me, our Estate Agents handling the sale of our property were without doubt the worst we have ever had in selling any of our previous properties proving that it isn't the buyers that are the liars but the Estate Agents themselves. I won't name individuals but as a company, William H. Brown of Ely were the worst for Communicating to us in the selling of our property. From the first contact where the then manageress came and visited us to suggest a selling price to the end result of us vacating the property was nothing short of disgusting. Considering they were going to be getting paid a couple of grand for selling our property for us, they did nothing. We did get the odd email and phone call trying to dazzle us with percentages and figures why our property wasn't selling but as I said to the individual calling me, stop making pathetic excuses and sell our property. When we first put our property up for sale at a price suggested by the management, one of the staff rang me and suggested that I should drop my price to get more interest! This was a week after we had it up for sale. I very politely told him no. They changed staff like I changed my grundies, every time we went in to the office someone else had left, hopefully to richer pastures. God help any new staff. All they will learn working in that office will be to lie, ignore your customers and spout BS because that's what we had from them, totally and utterly useless staff acting on our behalf.. The Manager who is in situ now was supposed to working on our behalf but was more focused on our buyers than us and even had the nerve to suggest that we moved into rented accommodation, with a wife, dog, cat and me, put all our possessions in to storage just so that our buyers could move in quickly. Quite disgusting behaviour from the "Manager". He even had the gall to tell us that our buyers wanted to move in on the following Monday and that they had their removals team delivering their possessions on the Tuesday. More lies. What a Pratt! We have now been moved out over a week and we have since found out that the buyers still haven't moved in, so what was all that pushing and prompting about putting us under enormous stress? It all points to him wanting the deal sealed so he could get his monthly bonus. Considering what our Solicitors, Hunt & Coombs did for us, the sheer amount of hard, intense work our Conveyancing Team did and the amount of fees they charged us was paltry compared to what we were charged. So to wrap up my review of William H. Brown, Estate Agents, Ely. We were very sorry we ever got involved with them. I would suggest using caution if you are unlucky enough to use them to sell your property because they don't care about you as a customer, just see you as a cash-cow. They will lie to you, ignore your calls and generally mess you about. I would suggest you use any of the other Estate Agents in Ely because to be honest, none of them could ever be as bad as William H. Brown.

TrustpilotDiddled me OUT OF MY LIFE SAVINGS!
They are lying, cheating thieves. They diddled me out of a large portion of my life savings. They do not care about the catastrophic effects of their actions on local hard-working families and community members. They only care about enriching themselves at the expense of others. Do not engage with them and do not go anywhere near the absolute scam of modern auctions, which they orchestrate via third parties as an obvious attempt to distance themselves from legal responsibility and liability for malpractice.

TrustpilotEmma Mackintosh
Review for Emma Mackintosh of William H BrownI recently had the pleasure of working with Emma Mackintosh at William H Brown, and I can confidently say that she went above and beyond in providing an outstanding experience. From the start, Emma was incredibly pleasant to deal with. She exuded professionalism and warmth, making what could have been a stressful process much more manageable. Her approachable nature made every interaction with her smooth and enjoyable, which isn’t something I can say for every professional I’ve dealt with in this field. What truly stood out was how quickly she responded to any queries or concerns I had. Whether it was via email or a phone call, Emma was consistently prompt in providing updates or answering my questions. This level of responsiveness is rare and showed how dedicated she is to ensuring a seamless experience for her clients. What I appreciated most, however, was how Emma dealt with me on a human level rather than just as a customer. She took the time to understand my needs and concerns, showing genuine empathy and care throughout the process. Her ability to connect on a personal level while maintaining professionalism made all the difference. I never felt like just another transaction; Emma truly made me feel valued and respected. In summary, Emma Mackintosh sets a high standard for service at William H Brown. Her pleasant demeanor, quick responsiveness, and human-centric approach make her an asset to the company and a joy to work with. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to people looking for a professional who genuinely cares about her clients.

TrustpilotReally positive experience
My partner and I have recently sold a flat and brought a family home together in our local town through harwich L’s William h brown. We couldn’t fault their services at all, and found our dealings with William h brown were the most positive part of the whole experience. The Valuation and initial chat was with Alex who was warm and friendly, made us feel comfortable and eased us into the process - answering all our questions as he went through the paperwork. We organised to view potential homes with Rob and Chelsea over the phone who were both lovely and understood what we were looking for. Rob always offering more options and encouraging us to explore as many homes as possible in the area to find our dream home. Chelsea always made us feel welcome and comfy walking round a strangers home and we felt we could really be honest with our feedback about the viewings during each one.The mortgage process was smooth and effortless with Daisy, who was so supportive and very thorough. She went through everything as slowly and as many times as we needed to really get our head around the figures and potential outgoings we would be committing to. I had so many questions and worries and Daisy was always so quick to respond and reassure me with all the information we needed. She also made sorting life and building insurance an easy process, as we had no idea! Having used a different mortgage adviser previously for the flat purchase, I can’t explain how much better the service was with Daisy. She was so easy to contact and I was never left in limbo wondering what the next step would be. We will definitely be using her services again for future remortgages and any movement we decide to make - though not for a long time!We managed to purchase a beautiful 3 bed detached home on the David Wilson development after William h brown recommended we go and view the site! And we haven’t looked back since, the house is everything we could have wished for. During the process of purchasing, exchanging and completing on the purchase of our home we worked closely with Daisy, Sharon and Michelle with weekly phone calls, emails and meetings to make sure we were on track, get updates and keep the ball rolling!Sharon was so kind and reassuring, and when her name popped up on my phone screen after a stressful call with the solicitors I would feel relieved that I would be having a productive and positive chat with her about it all, which chilled me back out again. The amount of support and progression sharon provided was amazing and we can’t thank her enough! Michelle works closely with the harwich team too, but is based in clacton and called us weekly too to update us, chase progression and steer us closer towards completion. It became like talking to a friend, as she was so Intune with what was needed and how to keep us calm throughout. It’s almost strange not getting calls from Sharon, Daisy and Michelle now that it’s all completed, but we are so glad it’s all completed and we are all settled into our new home. Thanks William h brown, for everything.

GoogleMy partner dealt with them primarily, and he always asks lots of questions, and we felt as though nothing was too much trouble. As FTB the process was scary enough and the last thing you need is to phone the estate agents and get a frosty reception, so it was lovely knowing we could get in touch and a friendly voice would answer.

We listed our house for sale and we're trapped into a 20 week lock in period. No contact from the agent, only 2 viewings in 3 months. No service whatsoever and then when we try to extricate ourselves their so called termination letter says they would still be entitled to their fee. Shocking service would avoid completely in the future.

If I could give less than one star for the penistone branch, I would. We rearranged to view a property. The lady we spoke to in the office was most unhelpful very annoyed because we gave her a few dates for our visit and it was almost as if we were putting her out because she had to contact the vendor to arrange it! when we finally arranged the visit the vendor never turned up so we were stood waiting for an hour. We’ve never once been contacted by the estate agency since to find out how the visit went , so presumably they’re not interested in whether the vendor wants to sell their house or not .Maybe the staff for the Penistone branch could do with a little bit more customer service training, we would never use this estate agent again.

We have just bought a property from them. We agreed to pay full asking price, cash, immediately, as long as it was a direct sale and did not go through the auction process. On completion, we were charged over £5000 for an Auction and Auctioneers fees which did not happen. I have to take legal action.

TrustpilotInfirmation On SEQUENCE, Connells, William H Brown.
People should avoid SEQUENCE like the plague, as what they (you) don't realise is that they are owned by Connells, who are owned by The Skipton Building Society, and as such operate (now they have bought Country Wide) a corporate monopoly, is what they thrive on, but don't, yet, have. What they do is have the longest tie-in contracts for sales, of 20 to 30 weeks! These are excessive, and you should, when selling, never, ever enter into anything so long! They also claim to only offer 1.5% agency commission, when most agents will over between 0.5% and 1%. So, negotiate! Your tie in, for sole agency, should, ideally, be 4 weeks, and 4 weeks notice. Some will try to keep you for 8 to 12 weeks, but you can get this down to 4. You can serve notice the moment you begin, so there isn't 8 weeks, just 4. If you go multi, and have another or other agents, do NOT listen to SEQUENCE, as they will try and make you pay an up front fee. DO NOT PAY ANYTHING. This fee, around £500, is only removed from the final statement, IF you stick with them, and they could be useless, hence not wanting a tie-in tat is excessive in the first place! State, ''I will go elsewhere''. They also, now, attempt to charge a money laundering check fee, and will try and charge this upfront, too, usually £99 plus VAT! Refuse this nonsense! They, as with all agents, can and should apply this fee as part of their commission, only payable upon completion! Their reason? Again, to make you feel you have to stay with them, even IF you are unhappy, as you have paid money up front! Next, be aware that William H Brown, as with all the brands they have bought, are run by management; an area manager, a branch manager, and above that little lot, another manager! They, and their staff, are given targets! They MUST get X number of properties on their books per month! If they achieve their targets, they get pay-outs! Not much, but they get it for each unit, and so a member of staff can start to earn commission even without selling a house! They earn much more: every mortgage appointment, they get a slice, ever referral to their legal panel, a payment, every survey booked, a payment, and they even get payments for an instruction, and (this is the worst!) they receive payments IF they manage to persuade you to drop the price!!! This whole 'up-sale' usage is something the Ombudsman should have dealt with years ago! It is unfair, as the public just don't know about it! It also means that some agents, under the Connells and SEQUENCE banners, operate unfairly, whereby the people who view are the people who take out their products; an agent can earn more in a mortgage commission than from a sale! So, all of you out there, only use them IF you understand their con tricks, and ONLY if you manage to get a short tie in, decent commission rate, and don't agree to their attempts to bring your selling price down!

TrustpilotWill not return deposit
I would not recommend using this company when you need to rent/let a home while stationed at Mildenhall or Lakenheath.Yes they are great at finding you a property and at taking the rental money every month. However when it’s time for your rental deposit to be returned - it does not happen! We have been waiting for our rental deposit to be returned since January 2024 on a property that was rented in Mundford. We were told that our full deposit would be returned after we did our final walk through of the property. We still have not received the deposit. Every time we call the office we are told that the deposit is being transferred but it never happens. We have spoken to Daniel Juniper, Richard Thurston, and Aliya Vadillo. It should not be this difficult to get a deposit into our account. There has been zero follow up by this office to resolve this matter.Every time we call the office from the US our cell phone carrier charges us international rates on an average of $100 USD! It would be great if this company would take the time and spend their money to call us to confirm this has been resolved! If you are in the US military please Do Not use this company if you need to rent/let a home!!!!

TrustpilotLettings - Holderness Road Branch Hull
William H Brown's Holderness Road Branch in Hull was tasked with managing 24 apartments but failed to provide satisfactory service. The absence of a senior lettings manager and reliance on outsourced call centres in Liverpool led to poor communication and unresolved tenant issues, reflecting a lack of proactive management. After enduring eight months of inadequate service, we tried to terminate our contract, only to uncover a hidden six-month notice requirement. This lack of transparency highlighted the company's focus on securing fees rather than providing quality service or ensuring client satisfaction. This negative experience with the local branch has convinced us to cease using William H Brown and its wider group for our property management needs nationwide. It reflects the importance of carefully choosing property managers who are truly committed to serving the interests of their clients and maintaining valuable business relationships.

TrustpilotWhere do we even start...
Welwyn Garden CityWilliam H BrownWe had an issue at home with our washing machine with a fault showing on the screen. We immediately contacted our estate agent for them to send out an engineer as we were home all week so needed to use our washing machine (of course). The estate agent we were dealing with replied to say they will contact the landlord to arrange an engineer to come out to look at the washing machine.2 weeks later.. nothing. We chased this with our estate agent who we must say had NO idea what he was doing. His responses and replies were awful and unprofessional, completely unhelpful.Maybe 2 1/2 weeks later, they sent out an engineer to finally look at the machine. In this time, we needed to wash our clothes elsewhere so took them to a family member who we were very lucky to have help us - some people aren't this lucky. Where they spent a total of £112 during this lengthy time to do our washing whilst needing to do washing for their own family. The engineer spoke to the estate agent to let them know that the system needed to be replaced completely. That was another 3 weeks that went by... which meant we were without a washing machine for around a month. During the time we waited for the new machine, we chased.. and chased.. and chased. You guessed it, no reply or a very unhelpful unprofessional email. Finally - a washing machine! We thought as paying tenants of a property, we would be eligible for some sort of compensation for the fact that we had no machine for a month (must just address, white goods come under the cost of the rent and we were still paying our full rent). We kindly asked the estate agent whether we could request some deduction of the rent from the landlord.6 weeks.. yes.. 6 weeks went by and nothing.. no updates, no word of a reply from the estate agent. We were then informed the estate agent was on annual leave, so another estate agent took over. Very helpful guy and we finally saw some hope!Within less than a day the estate agent replied to let us know the landlord was not prepared to offer a single penny for the stress we went through that month with the travelling to do our washing, stresses of emails and constantly checking to see about a response.Firstly.. I have very little doubt the initial estate agent even contacted the landlord regarding this situation as the landlord replied very quickly to the second estate agent.Where do we even go from here!? We can't let them get away with this. We have been treated so poorly and unfairly by William H Brown - not to mention the other issues we had within the property regarding insulation. We have been recommended to take this further with the ombudsman but honestly, we are so tired and fed up.(It's now 15/04) I must just also mention, we've had to continuously chase them for updates regarding anything.. literally anything to do with the house, repairs, money.. anything. We have since decided to take this matter further, now we are happy and settled into our new home. Wish us luck! Please avoid or please don't let them get away with taking money and not dealing with issues in a good time. We will NEVER go with William H Brown in Welwyn Garden City again.

Scunthorpe branch of William H Browns were absolutely diabolical. House was up for sale with them for 5 months .They did not respond to any of my e mails voicing my concerns at the lack of customer service and the length of time it took people to be able to get a viewing (2 weeks ) by which time they had already bought other properties. They booked multiple viewers in to view the property at the same time .They did not inform me if viewers had cancelled. The whole experience was negative they appear only to be interested in selling to property developers.Once contract was up I moved to a different estate agent and the property had 3 offers and was sold within 1 day for over the asking price .
