Beware

Beware. This is one of the most disgusting, aggressive agencies out there. Avoid if possible as a buyer, they will use your offer to bid up the price and leave you with a surveyor fee for nothing. It's legal, but never seen it done quite so distastefully. Avoid like the plague if you can. AND DONT RENT THROUGH THEM, they'll try to lock you into a 24 or even 36 month contract with no breakclause by telling you that that's just how the market is now and it'sthe landlords not them! They are at least partly responsible for the state of the property and rental market in the UK - i.e. completely overpriced and unaffordable to most. A Disgusting way to behave, I know you need to make money but this is people's future homes!

Awful letting agents just trying to pressure you for the landlord’s benefit

Had an awful time even just trying to enquire about properties to rent. The lettings agent just keeps trying to pressure me into shady sounding 2-3 year fixed term contracts without even a break clause!! Telling me that landlords use these as investment properties and like the extra security. As if that helps me/the tenant in the slightest! It’s all benefit to greedy landlords and all risk to the tenant. It’s incredibly suspicious that they’d want this long of a contract saying 1 year lets are “short term” now. A lot of people don’t even know where they’ll be in 2-3 years time, let alone if there’s any issues with the property or surroundings, or you need to move for work…it just makes me think they want to trap people in to a property with issues they won’t disclose. It’s standard to at least offer a break clause even for 1 year contracts, and for tenancies that long it’s common to offer some kind of reduction in rent in exchange for the landlord’s security of no dead periods… but they offer nothing other than “no price increases” on a ridiculously overpriced property anyway. I also doubt that they won’t try and propose an increase down the line regardless. I would love to live longer term in a property that I like, but I need to know that the place is right for me first. That’s why the majority offer 1 year lets with choices to renew.Never had this experience with any other landlord or letting agent, it’s just awful. They never give any details on their listings either and half of them are already off the market when you call anyway but not removed online. There’s clearly no care for the tenant if they’re tone deaf enough to advertise how much the landlord benefits but can’t give you a single valid benefit as a tenant. The main point of renting is the extra flexibility of not being tied down somewhere, so this wouldn’t appeal to the majority of people in the slightest. If you want that long of a contract you should advertise it as a retirement property.

You don’t know you have a bad agent, until a good one takes over. Our flat was on the market for 3 years with another agency in tooting, a frustrating time with little info or plan shared. We were blown away by Alice, Gaz, Esta, Elliot, Margaux, and Michael. They were tenacious experts who brought new ideas and approach to the table… we sold within 6 weeks. Best for rentals and property management

I have dealt with Dexters for years and have been mostly happy overall. To be honest, the quality of service always depends on the individual. Other than a couple of notable exceptions, nobody,does it better for rentals and property management.Buying, selling and renting out property (particularly the latter) are all extremely stressful activities and so it is important to have reliability, peace of mind, and trust. Lindsey BH on the property management team is second to none and we are so please to have her managing one of our properties: she manages to be super responsive, pre-emptive, efficient and caring , an all with professionalism and a smile.Definitely recommend Dexters overall for property management and rentals.

Dexters don't care about your time

Dexters has a lot of great property listings on their website, zoopla and other places. I called in to check on a few and to my surprise, out of 6 listings 5 of them were off the market. They don't seem to bother to take out good properties, probably to get you to call them.Once I got on the phone, a very nice lady chatted with me about their available listings and send a comprehensive follow up email. Within an hour, I've booked a viewing for next day in the afternoon and I receive a confirmation email. I turn up to the property the next day and since there's no one around, I give them a call. After quite a bit of waiting time they end up telling me the property is off the market since the morning and they forgot to cancel my viewing. I've wasted a good hour on the tube and took time off work for this. But don't worry dear reader, I've got another hour of tube on the way back to write this review for you. Definitely not a serious letting agency in my opinion and won't be dealing with them in the future.

I wish I could give them no stars

I wish I could give them no stars. Dexter's literally left us homeless. They showed us a wonderful flat, we were approved and paid eye-watering amounts of deposit to secure the letting. Once we had signed the agreement they called us the day before the move to tell us that actually, the landlord never signed the agreement. We had broken our lease that was due to end just 2 weeks after we moved into the new flat. The landlord would not extend, so we had less than 2 weeks to find a place to live and move. We lost significant sums to booked removal services and so much more. Dexters did almost nothing to help us. All they had to do is get the landlord to sign the agreement when they told us we were approved -- and they didn't. They took absolutely no accountability. Never ever trust them.

The absolute worst estate agency.

We had the dreadful misfortune of renting a property from Dexters. The list of complaints and problems are too long to list. They lied from the outset and from then on went out of their way to cause as many problems as possible. This was before, during, and afterwards, they made our lives a misery, simply due to their absolutely awful service and lies.The more you complained the more they hated it and the more they went out of their way to cause more problems.At the end they had the temerity to try and take as much of our deposit as possible. This I successfully challenged through the TDS. I then submitted yet another formal complaint, which they did their best to ignore, so had to complain to the Property Ombudsman. The PO found that Dexters had caused "avoidable aggravation and distress" to us and awarded us compensation, which Dexters had to pay.Please note that complaining to the TDS and TPO is not easy. It is a long, stressful, and arduous process and the odds are stacked against you. The best way to avoid anything going wrong is to use another estate agent.Edit to respond to the below:Dear Asma, you have the absolute gall to write the below when I wrote to you, specifically, twice during our tenancy, to complain. You promised to escalate to senior managers but guess what? Nothing happened.Dexters are an utter disgrace!

Devils with Angel Smiles

I was used. No other way to say it. I found a property that was listed by Dexters. I made an offer, it was accepted and I paid a deposit and signed a contract. However, shortly after it turns out that the Landlord pulled out. It would appear that there was dispute between the Landlord and Dexters. I was consoled and told that if I saw it again that I should go for it and they would be happy to provide the background check information they had done to make the process faster. As it happened, the same property did end up back on the market with another Agency. I reached out to who I thought were helpful agents to get the background information promised. I made another offer, it was accepted, and when due to sign the Landlord pulled out again stating that Dexters had emailed reminding of a clause stating they deserve their full fee. Dexters never did send me the information promised, but instead wanted money from the Landlord who in turn refused to rent to me because of this clause. I suspect Dexters only made the offer of the background checks so they would know if I made an offer on the property so they can get the fee, which they won't and I won't get the property that I now twice have lost because of these tactics. I honestly have no words for how frustrated and annoyed I am at myself that I trusted them and it cost me my new home. Do not trust them. Do not get used.

Lacking knowledge & serviceAwful through & through. The Lettings’s staff don’t have a clue on legislation or the correct way to do anything. My son was forced to sign to stay in in the property after the end of the fixed term. They would not listen and would not let his tenancy roll on, as he was legally entitled. They threatened him with eviction leaving him no choice. Appealing behaviour and totally unprofessional. They really need to train their staff to conduct tenancies in the correct manner. Their properties are overpriced and they encourage landlords to be greedy with no consideration for the tenant. Staff are rude and unhelpful.

Horrible experience for tenants

Horrible experience for prospective tenants.We had an accepted offer on a property for rental and Dexter's took our deposit. Later, we were informed that the landlord had accepted a new offer, days after our offer was already accepted. If we wanted to pull out, it would have cost us thousands, but the landlord could pull out for free. On top of that, we wasted so much time filling in the paperwork and canceling other viewings just to have the rug pulled under us. Would not recommend to any tenants out there.
