This seminar was regarding the lawful rights of both the landlord and tenant. It was very enlightening, informative and interesting. It encompassed, holistically, all facets of being a landlord. Covering all subjects that I would imagine would be of great interest to existing landlords or 'would be' landlords. One of the topics discussed also included giving an awareness of the expectations and behaviours of tenants. The speakers were obviously proficient re public speaking thus putting the attendees at ease. The venue was very pleasant as were the drinks provided. A very productive, pleasant evening for all.

As an estate agency, Matthew Anthony seems fine, but our experience with them as a letting agency has been terrible. Julie at Matthew Anthony gave us a very negative impression of our landlady, only for us to find out when we met her that she was lovely. The reason we had such a poor view of her was because the agency failed to inform her of multiple issues we had with the property. They also told us that certain repairs, like a crack in the wall that wasn’t our fault, were our responsibility. When the landlady finally saw the property, she was surprised and said she should have been the one to address those repairs, and they were not our responsibility like Matthew Anthony said. We also put effort into improving the place, including laminating the mismatched kitchen cabinets. Julie told us to remove the laminate before the landlady’s visit, but afterward, the landlady mentioned she had asked Julie whether our work was good enough to keep and received no response. She was disappointed when she found out how well it had been done and wished we had left it. Now, as we move out, we’ve learned they told the landlady they were raising the rent to £1400 but listed the house at £1550 instead. We’d gotten one viewing booked when the house was priced at the rate we were paying £1250), however have yet to get another viewing since they raised the rent. As a result of all of this, the landlady has switched to another agency. Based on our experience, I would not trust them as a letting agency.
