Trustpilot*CONNELLS MUTLEY PLAIN*
*CONNELLS MUTLEY PLAIN*An honest opinion based on facts to prevent you going through the stress of these inconsiderate idiot's. Since the sale I've heard lots of very similar situations so thought I'd spread the word. From day one, Ross came to the house to value it and seemed very good, promised the earth as you'd expect from any estate agent. Valued the house 5-10k higher than others(purposely done to get you on board, who doesn't want an extra 5-10k) That's the positives done! We agreed a 1% fee, Ross the manager put down a figure on the contract and not 1%. We didn't notice this until he had left. We spoke to him on the phone and he agreed to change it, "he would send us an email to confirm it" Weeks went by and we chased for the email, several emails and phone calls went to Ross yet this never got solved. We ended up paying more fees because of his intentional mistake on the contract. Our own fault for not making sure we had it sorted, however Ross clearly knew what he had done and had purposely ignored our emails. Whilst the sale was ongoing with viewings etc we never got any feedback until we called them. Several times we called and they would always say "we were just about to call you" They even held onto offers for days and we only got these when we called them to chase feedback. So we finally agreed a price with the buyer. Connells told us the buyer had no chain and wanted to move in within 6 weeks with no surveys etc as they needed to move in ASAP. This was January 14th 2021, fast forward to July 2021 and the sale is still dragging out because of the chain(the chain that connells told us didn't exist) We found out through our buyers estate agent that the buyers buyer lives in Thailand. This was the reason for a major hold up and very nearly lost us our new build purchase. Credit to Lawsons who didn't have to go out of their way to chase and explain things to us. Things that Connells would have known for months. We spoke to at least 6 different members of staff, the amount of times we were told "we will call you back" and not receive a call is beyond a joke. They also entered our property without permission when we weren't home. Only Connells and ourselves had a key. Our post had been put on the kitchen side, things in the garden were moved. When I questioned this they denied it.Right up until the last day of completion we were still chasing them for their mistakes. They overpriced the final invoice to our solicitor by £100. It took two phone calls from us and one from our solicitor to amend this. Apparently it was a "typo" Funny how the typo didn't work in our favour! All in all a very stressful time which could have been prevented with simply being honest with us and making a few phone calls to us.I've never left a bad review before but this was so bad I felt it was needed. Hopefully our mistake going with Connells Mutley Plain will save you making that mistake. Just to repeat this was CONNELLS MUTLEY PLAIN so please don't mistake this for other connells branches.

TrustpilotHorrific
HorrificLived in a property since 2017, repairs continually ignored. 3 times ceiling has collapsed. My belongings destroyed, all my food. Still have no ceiling. Bathroom floor is still raised and leaks. Bath is not repaired and just has plastic siliconed to cover holes. Fences collapsed. Back door not working or secure. All reported and ignored. Trashed my belongings, broke my bed, bin. Left work uncomplete, dumped rubbish in house snd left 20 bags of rubbish for months in my garden. Broke my hoover, left toilet marks in my toilet. Landlord issued eviction noticed because i chased repairs, wat else am i supposed to do, live in these conditions????Falsely accused of doing the damage myself only for 2 inspections to be carried out and proved that its the ignoring and poor work of a contractor. Despite refusing to do repairs and issueing a section 21 to evict they then ask for more rent over 5% wats suggested. Every phonecall and email solves nothing. I still live in these conditions. Bullied and harrassed by refusing to do repairs, eviction and demands for more rent. Stay away from this company. They appear to be interested in only collecting money and have no control or support for tenents. The repairs were serious and my children could have been seriously hurt. Boiler broke and took over a month to repair. I had no heating or wash facilities and this was during xmas time. Words cannot describe how awful this experience is. All evidence will be provided to courts should they persist with eviction. I only hope that I can bank enough to get away from Connells and there treatment of me for good. Dont become a victim of them and stay well away. .

TrustpilotBritain’s got talent at Connells
We had a wonderful 1.5 hr conversation with Shane Reavey from Connells.Shane was very informative and answered all our questions about mortgage, and all that he and Connells can offer. He even answered questions that we didn’t know we had. The process of information giving and gathering was made very easy by his open and clear way of communicating. We really appreciated the informative and friendly conversation that took place.Thank you for sharing your time and splendid information and we are looking forward to completing the process with you and allowing us to live the dream.Shane Reavey .... you are a star.Go Chiefs.

TrustpilotHorrendous
Horrendous - do not use.Connells are part of the problem when it comes to the cladding scandal. They value properties then when they come back out to do a lenders surveyor they say a EWS1 is required, when it isn’t, thus sale falls through. There is no consistency. They’ve been to my building many of times, values are always under market value if not zero and they don’t seem to know when a EWS1 is required. They don’t allow complaints and ignore emails.Horrendous from start to end.Avoid at all costs.

TrustpilotWorst experience ever
Me and my fiance decided to rent our first property together. We viewed a house with Connells estate agents when the previous tenants were still occupying the property, not much of big deal but due to covid we obviously couldn't check out the house in full detail. We decided we loved the property from what we saw and got approved for the house. We made sure to fill out paperwork as soon as we got it as we were so excited for our first house. We were suppose to move in on the 12th March but it was delayed a week to clean the property. We didn't mind and took the reassurance it would be clean. We were then suppose to recieve the tennancy agreement on the 12th which didn't arrive, we contacted Connells but the response time was poor. Finally receiving the contract the following week they had put the wrong address so we informed them. It took a few days of being sent the wrong information on the contract before we finally got a correct contract the evening before we moved. The day of the move we collected the keys first thing in the morning from the branch but wasn't asked for any ID which we thought was odd as we were collecting it from a different Connells branch in our location and hadn't met the staff there before. We get to the property and a pile of rubbish was left on a drive which included tyres, a rabbit run, corragated metal sheets etc... piled up. The electric box door was cracked and the gas box door was completely missing. We found crates on the front garden that were left and as we ventured into the back garden we found yet another pile of broken furniture and househould items down the side of the shed. Empty plastic packets, hardcore and broken toys were also left scattered around the garden. We contacted the agency about it as soon as we saw and apparently the tenants left it for bin day... I don't think large items of broken furniture can be collected by the wheelie bin collector's.First thoughts entering the property was that it was very dirty and unsanitary. As we walked through the house our feet were sticking to the floor and piles of crumbs and dirt were left in each room. We found the mop they had used to clean the floor which was completly black with dirt and honestly the worst mop I've seen. The oven and hobs was still covered in food there were smears on the sink and oven door from where it had been wiped with a dirty cloth. We found mould growing in the corner of the kitchen wall and on the window seals which were also cracked. In the bathrooms 3 dirty used toilet brushes were left, crumbs in the bath, water marks on the shower screen, the bathroom unit was falling apart badly stained and had chunks of wood missing from it, the downstairs toilet seat wasn't attached properly, upstairs toilet had lots of marks on the bottom and wouldn't flush properly. There was no curtain rails in a few of the rooms and a few broken blinds as we went to close them they fell off. The carpet on the landing and stairs was dirty and very worn away. In the shed in the garden was a dirty mini fridge and some open wired electricals which when speaking to Connells they knew nothing about. We recieved the inventory on the day which had 5 pages of things that needed repairing to the property including a deep clean that was urgently required. We hadn't received any safety certificates on the day and when asked for them Connells finally sent them over the following day in which we found a few electrical issues recorded and that wasn't including the dodgy wiring in the shed. We had organised a man with a van to move our large furniture to the property on the day which we did but due to how unclean and unsafe it was we decided not to stay. We spent days trying to contact Connells and finally got through to the director who kept interrupting us and didn't seem to understand the unhabitabal state it was left in. Due to an outbreak of Covid at one of there offices they were all self isolating and didn't have a back up plan to help tennants like us. There were alot of things wrong with the property which we felt were breaking the tennancy act but each time we mentioned it we were dismissed and told that we had signed a contract. Yes we can follow the law on the contract but they haven't done there part on following the legislation for tenants! We wiĺl never use or recommend Connells again!

TrustpilotOfficially the WORSE surveyors!
Officially the WORSE surveyors!! Having owned multiple properties with variety of lender never had as worse experience as this. I paid £500 for survey and they deemed property unsuitable due to some foam on roof. Irony is 2 X other lenders have offered on same property without any questions & my own professional surveyor has happily signed off the property. I’m glad I made alternative arrangements in time. Stop wasting your Time! Read review and do your research. There’s way better surveyors available & if your lender uses this company run a MILE!!

TrustpilotRude and massively undervalued
Valuer was in the property for less than 5 mins, obviously wasn't local, very unfriendly and rude. The value came back way lower (45k) than the offer received from my buyer, so the sale is likely to fall through and I will loose my next property too. Property is rarely available on this road so it is a tricky one to value, but asking price is comparable to local properties of similar size and finish and property sold very quickly with multiple offers which proves it was well priced for the market. Absolutely fuming!

TrustpilotBent con men !
As others I would score zero if I could.Valuer appointed through Natwest's underwriters, Mr C Hill was at my property 5 mins, and under valued my house for 40 k. He already knew the value I had stated as he mentioned it to me, so why if the company was supposed to be "independent" did he already know the honest value??Then provided feed back to Natwest that there wasn't any comparable house sold recently. There was in the last 3 years for well over his valuation of my larger house, but not in the last 3 months during a pandemic (shock!)My new mortgage deal is now £3k more expensive over the next 5 years thanks to his incompetence. Natwest wont let you appeal the valuation, but I know for sure that if the repossessed my house they wouldn't sell it for his valuation = bent as f.... ! Back handers central! I cant beleive Natwest use such a company with these review rating unless they are going to make a healthy profit from them ....oh wait...!

TrustpilotCan I give no stars
Can I give no stars? Appalling service from start to finish. Pulled out of a purchase mainly due to this agent. Day 1 view a property. Agent strolled up the street after our arrival, had to force door open due to post and junk mail piled up. This should have been moved prior to our arrival to give a better impression. Agent gave us wrong sale price around £20,000 than actual price. Property was also marketed incorrectly in our opinion. Garage blocked of with inner wall making it a gym, agent conveniently didn’t have the key for us to see this. Due to issues with our buyer the purchase of this property was unexpectedly delayed, whilst we were keen to keep the vendor updated, these agents were not so forthcoming with information including that they had put the house back up for sale. I only found this out when calling with information. I’m quite certain at this point he attempted to get us to increase our offer to “secure” the purchase. After reassuring them of our position we were then given an incredibly unachievable deadline . This simply led us to reevaluate our position and rather than proceed proceed with the purchase ( of which I had no confidence was now secured to us) and came to the unfortunate decision to withdraw our offer and look for another property. When searching a quite limited choice for our situation I had to discount any property’s listed with connells regardless of how much I liked them. I found these agents to be very unprofessional and on rude.

TrustpilotTime wasters
In June 2020, I viewed a retirement flat in Watford..Price was agreed, memorandum of sales was issued solicitors was appointed. We even got to signing a draft contract when I was told by solicitors the flat is not for over 55s but for 60. Before putting an offer Connells had reassured me that this was for 55..Even after solicitors email, two agents of Connells Kyara and Scott emailed / phoned me and reassured me all will be fine. I wasted 3.5 months of emotional, physical ( note I am disable) and financial energy and had turned down 3 potential properties before putting in an offer. Connels supposededly appealed to the company many times not that I was privy to emails exchanged..I was constantly having to chase but was fobbed off with half cut explanations as to exactly why the E&M would not sell to me..And that too in very poor English. People over 55 are living in that block so I feel very much discriminated against. On the last day when Connells told me of final decision and that the sale will definitely not proceed, the agency didnt even offer their services by asking if they could help me look for other options or offer a refund of fees taken. I had paid £400 in vain. Again I had a chase for my refund. I was again told it would be paid after 3 days. I chased up after 5 days for me to get an email about shortage of staff. This was paid after 8 days. However I had lost money paid to Solicitors. If they are to be believed and vendor too was chasing the landlord, they have no doubt costed the vendor additional expenses. If only this small but hugely important details about age was in black and white from day one, this mess could have been avoided. All in all Connels is unreliable, time wasters, no diligence and definitely not recommended from a buyer's point of view

Then after the survey contacted us to explain what he had found and explained what we would need to do. Survey was excellent and helped us clarify certain parts of the report. Would recommend that having a survey by people like simon was the best money we have ever spent . Thanks again

TrustpilotI wish I had read more reviews before…
I wish I had read more reviews before deciding to use Connells. The branch manager who came to value was over pushy and persuaded us to take an additional package to showcase the property. Poor quality pictures which were allegedly taken by a professional photographer. I could have done better with a mobile phone. Had to complain about the quality of the pictures and the number and one or two extra were added. Still poor quality.Description of property was initially not agreed with us. Connells wrote an initial description which we did not see. Eventually it was changed. The property has now been on the market for 10. weeks and not a single viewing. Only one call from the office during that time despite going into the office and expressing our dissatisfaction. Manager was out and has never bothered to get in touch with any suggestions on marketing. Extremely disappointing and extreme poor quality customer service. We are locked in for 6 months and already paid out money for photographs and extra marketing. A very poor company who just do not seem to care.

Alun came across as agenuine non pushy agent, allowing me plenty of time to make up my own mind and decisions. What was really a breath of fresh air for me was that Alun knew quite allot about the surrounding areas, which helped immensely in finding the right property for me and my family.Alun, thanks for all your genuine help and support, and restoring my faith in Estate Agents. Trustpilotconnels peterborough
We contacted the peterborough office for a let in Bretton area of the city, our contact was charlotte, initially all went well but we hit a problem with the reference check as i am moving from north scotland to the area and did not have any proof of earning as still had to start my new job. We at this time were unable to continue without either a guarentaur or a six month deposit of rent, that left both of us feeling very stressed and deflated with our move just 5 days away. Charlotte called us the very next day to put a proposal from the landlord for less rent advance which we were able to do. I cannot stress how helpful and professional my dealings with Charlotte were. What a credit to your company.

Poor does not come close to the abysmal service connells provide. Reports were made for defects following their own processes however they repeatedly failed to respond to these and on one occasion left it four days before contacting me about being unable to enter my home due to a lock issue.Tennant's are harrassed into entering fixed term contracts and are charged ridiculous amounts for the priveledge of having the exact same piece of paper they had previously but with a simple date change.Good luck getting your deposit back if you do go with connells, I surrendered my tenancy three months ago, I agreed that deductions could be made and am still awaiting repayment of the agreed funds outside of their own time frames told after being told initially that this would take 7 working days.DO NOT USE

TrustpilotAt least I know which agent NOT to use in future
I have been using another letting agent who I am perfectly happy with for years. Then I got a call from Connells promising that they were better, faster and a whole lot cheaper than my current agent. I told them I wasn't interested but they kept badgering me day and night until I finally gave in and let them find a new tenant for me. That was a mistake I won't forget in a hurry.Connells were reasonably slow finding tenants, and the tenants they did find were all dodgy fraudsters. In the end I reluctantly agreed on a tenant with a CCJ. Who turned out to be less than ideal. On top of that, far from being cheaper, Connells turned out to be very expensive. As an example, they send a report every 6 months showing rent received and expenses. Any normal letting agent would do this for free. At Connells, that'll be £102 please. At least I know which agent NOT to use in future.

TrustpilotOne star is too generous for this…
One star is too generous for this incompetent bunch of nitwits. From the very beginning our experience with them was horrendous, when they or the equally terrible referencing service they use, TLC, repeatedly lost or forgot about paperwork that had been sent to them. Our guarantor spent a fortune sending items via Special Delivery more than once because Connells and TLC lost them or because they were too stupid to read what was in front of them in order to see that all the necessary details were covered in the first pieces of documentation sent. Every time they requested something, it was implied that it would complete the process and we could then move forward with renting our selected property, but then something else would be requested that they could and should have asked for in the first place. Two days before we were set to sign the paperwork and pick up the keys, we were told we may not be able to move in when planned because the landlord had not yet signed his part of the agreement. It soon transpired that the reason the landlord had been unable to sign was that Connells had still not even sent the agreement through to him. They finally agreed that, under the circumstances, they would allow the landlord to sign in retrospect in order to allow us to move in as we had already booked removals, but there was no apology or remorse, and we were not told this for certain until about 3 hours before we were due to pick up the keys - and only then because we phoned them. There was a complete lack of urgency throughout the entire process. On the day of the move, we received an email from Lauren at Kings Heath telling us our guarantor needed to visit his nearest branch with ID, and that this is usually done nearer the beginning of the process. This left us wondering why it hadn't been done when it should have been? Further to this, our guarantor's nearest branch was not just down the road, oh no, it was an hour and a half's drive in each direction! It is utterly ludicrous to expect someone of over 70 to drive that far with a couple of pieces of paper when they have already given you bank statements, pension statements and council tax bills to show who they are and what their income is. The next several months were blissful as we had no contact with Connells. The landlord was lovely and it soon became clear that both he and we were happy to continue the tenancy privately in order to save paying Connells money for old rope. The landlord gave notice, and we received a letter to say that Connells would no longer be serving as management for the tenancy after a certain date. We should make no further rent payments to them, lest they be returned to us minus a £30 'processing' fee. Cue an email yesterday morning claiming we are in rental arrears. We are most assuredly *not* in arrears as the tenancy ended over a week ago, but once again Connells do not know what they are doing. Upon phoning the Kings Heath branch to try and sort this out, my husband was told that Connells Kings Heath had been told by the landlord that he wished them to continue acting as managers until the end of the original tenancy agreement, which is due to finish at the end of this month. This is despite the many letters that have been sent to the branch by the landlord confirming that he understands the tenancy would end last month and he would be responsible for collecting rent from there on, and also despite the letter Connells themselves have sent to us saying the same thing. I am at a complete loss with Connells. I have absolutely no faith in them whatsoever and I can't understand how they have stayed in business. They are rude, unprofessional, blasé about life-changing matters, and, frankly, completely useless. I would strongly advise anyone considering using them as letting agents or estate agents rethink and use someone else, as Connells seem to be the worst of the lot.
