They lied in the contract and blamed it on a new staffer misunderstanding things

We viewed a property which had been vacant for months. The property was dirty, wallpaper falling off the walls, an outdated kitchen, carpets soo dirty and dump they stank, mould on walls, overgrown back garden, a lot rubbish in the back garden left by previous tenants that we had to hire a skip to get rid of it. Half of the light sockets in the house were not working (and the electricals failed the Electrical Installation Certificate), the showers in the house didn’t work, neither did the boiler. The windows all round the house are single glazed, even the front door had was missing the letter box and so just had a huge hole in it. After we had moved in we also discovered holes in the roof which birds use as nests, and a leaking ceiling in the living room of all places. The letting agent emailed us that the landlord was going to fix everything, listing down all the issues, this forming part of the contract. Some things were to be fixed before we moved in and others within the first month. They rushed us to move in, however, when we moved in Bridgfords refused to complete the list of works around the property, stating that it was a MISTAKE on their part by a new employee who confirmed the list of work to be completed when the landlord only said he’d think about it. When we decided we would move and they’d pay for moving costs for misleading us into a contract they were never going to honour, and after reporting them to our MP and the Council, the landlord decided to fix a few things around the house. After that, it was all to hell. We have written and called countless times and they still maintain they are not in the wrong, and the landlord refuses to bring the property to standards. By the way, everything in the property is from when the house was initially built, that should tell you the condition of the house. Currently, we’ve been without heating or hot water for nearly a month, and with the change in weather, we are all nursing colds. The Stove and sink also don’t work and the landlord has refused to fix either. I only wish we had looked at the reviews before going with this letting agent. They are incompetent, terrible customer service (one staff even swore at my mum), and just all around awful to deal with. Please don’t use them at all, there’s a reason they only have a 2 rating.

Some things never change - still shoddy

Some things never change. We bought our house through Bridgfords 5 years ago- not a good experience. They don’t answer the phone or answer emails. Today, as we’ve decided to sell the house, I thought to myself "maybe they’ve changed." I’ve called them 4 X, each time being redirected to an answering machine.I’ve emailed them and no reply. A continuation of a shoddy service continues. The 2 other estate agents I’ve contacted have replied more or less straight away and visits have been arranged. I honestly don’t know how Bridgfords survives in the current economic climate.

2 month+ deposit return delay

I rented a property managed by Bridgfords and moved out two months ago. I still have not received my deposit back. Since moving out, I have called and emailed the branch multiple times to follow up. My calls have been hung up on, and my emails have gone unanswered. For an agency that expects tenants to meet strict deadlines and requirements throughout the tenancy, this level of service at the end of the process has been disappointing. I would think carefully before renting through Bridgfords based on this experience.

The staff at the Washington office were nice, somewhat helpful before I became a tenant at a property poorly managed by them. Now... I'm 6 days into my tenancy and they're completely useless, refused to help me when I called them. I reported a repair issue (downstairs lights won't work due to a wiring issue, the fuse box immediately switches the lights off) immediately after switching the downstairs lights back on at the fuse box. I'm now 5 working days without electric lighting downstairs in EVERY ROOM and I was told "we can't help, it's over to the maintenance team now". Avoid these people and their lies. I'm paying £550 pcm and I'm being treated like they're providing me charity 😂 they claim repairs will be handled "quickly and efficiently" (see photos)

Disrespectful and Desperate, Data Breach

We viewed a property and after loving it in person offered a cash offer of asking price their and then. Within the same hour, I got a call from the agent who shown us round to be told it was going to Auction. I checked the listing, and it didn't mention auction, but this was updated the next morning. The estate agent had every opportunity to call us to inform us it was an auction property. It seems we had a lucky escape since we have found out the property has had two collapsing sales, for such a desirable area and its price point, these are huge red flags. I called the agency first thing during the morning after our viewing at 9am, to say we aren't interested, we viewed a property to buy not to be told until after viewing it that it was auction, oh and it get's better they tried to make out it was a good deal, yeah a deal that would cost us 4.5% of a minimum of 6.600 in auction fees that we never knew of until afterwards and would never have considered had we of known this information before the viewing. I said, please don't get anyone to call me, but the auction company called me anyway, I tell them we are not interested. I have since had two more calls from the auction company ( which i understand is a sister style company to this agency ). I've had to block the number and inform my solicitor of a data protection breach, as I said I did not want to speak to anyone from auction. Also had a call in desperation from the agency saying oh the price has dropped. " Firstly, no it hasn't because of the fees; secondly, we said we were not interested, why was this not respected. I have never heard of this agency before we did the viewing and I wouldn't be surprised by the many low reviews; they will be able to continue in business much longer. Hoping this review grabs their attention because this is what happens when you harass someone. Don't follow correct and legal protocol and respect people's privacy.

would not recommend this company to any…

would not recommend this company to any landlord. The fees are extremely high, with additional charges that are not always made clear from the outset. Communication is poor, and it is often very difficult to get hold of staff when you need support or answers. The contractors they use are also significantly overpriced, leaving landlords with unnecessarily expensive maintenance bills. For the amount charged, the level of service provided is disappointing. Overall, my experience has been frustrating, costly, and poor value for money. I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere.

Thank you so much Holly at Stockton Heath's Bridgefords

I had a wonderful tour with Holly from Bridgeford's Stockton Heath. I didn't feel rushed and she was very attentive, patient with all my questions and built a quick rapport with me. She always answered the phone and emails professionally and gave thorough and informative replies, always keeping me in the loop as my application for my new rental progressed through all the stages. I highly recommend her. Steph xxx

The worst out there

The worst out there, put us through so much drama, very stressful and mentally draining, their mortgage broker is absolutely useless, 4 months later we were declined, absolute waste of time, waste of energy, they just didn't want us to buy it for some reason, maybe because we are a different skin colour to them! Stay away from the burnley branch, good lord, how do they get away with this bs.

Bridgefords are the worst estate agents…

Bridgefords are the worst estate agents i have ever come across, i am so glad i did not decide to sell my house with them! They never answer the calls, constantly leaving voicemails, very rarely they call you back! I viewed a property with them a week or so ago & no follow up phone call the following day, I wanted to make an offer , left several voicemails & nothing! Please avoid Bridgefords at all costs. They are the worst estate agents i have ever come across. Please stay away!

ignored, patronised and falsely accused

3 months into our tenancy we've experience the following with Bridgfords/Countrywide/Entwistle Green (no, I have no idea why they all take turns to email me or why they have different names if they're basically all the same company): * being told I had incorrectly logged repair reports online, despite following the printed handout we were given upon arrival to the letter. when I explained this, all I was met with was "the name of the person who gave you this information". I didn't really care about that, I just wanted the repairs done. This employee then ghosted us and never messaged back. *several issues we reported in our first week STILL have not been addressed, it's a joke. *it took around a month of emails and phone calls with various other employees just to get somebody to sort our broken boiler and thermostat out; we had no heating all that time and this was when it was still freezing every day. *we were instructed to order a bin from the local council and pay for the bin ourselves, then minus that fee from our next rent payment. despite being told to do this, Countrywide/Bridgfords sent us a threatening email saying we were in arrears. I replied back saying this was rubbish, only to be ignored for two days. I only got a reply when I sent a follow up saying I would message literally every day until they backed off and apologised. Funnily enough, 5 minutes later, they finally replied. *it for some reason took a month for them to remove the 'for rent' sign outside. again, as soon as I complained, it magically disappeared shortly after. *I had to fix a broken kitchen drawer myself within the first month myself because they refused to acknowledge the issue which had been present since day 1. *customer service is woefully slow. if you want to communicate via email, you get whinged at and pushed towards phone calls, which you then get dumped onto hold for and have patchy reception anyway. *during those phone calls, I'd be told 'this will happen, the landlord is sorting this', but nothing ever happens. *we've had 3 - soon to be 4 - visits from a contractor with regards to our bath/shower. how it takes this many call outs to repair one tap is beyond me. *this latest instance of the contractor coming around has now broken the bath tap, no hot water, the seal is leaking, he's caused some damage to the kitchen and even our front door doesn't shut properly due to some equipment he'd had resting against the door for an hour. What does Bridgfords/Countrywide have to say about this? 'You should have pointed it out due avoid another unnecessary visit to the property'. Yeah okay, i'm so sorry for beinga dumb tenant who refused to let the contractor leave until i'd magically detected various issues around the house and bullied him into fixing them. if we'd arranged for this to take place when out of the house anyway, what would this 'Emily' have said to me then, "you should have stayed at home and not gone to work to prevent another home visit". what nonsense. this woman is on another planet. I have filed a formal report against her because she shouldn't be offering her own opinions. for a supposed professional, her entire email was nasty and sneering. all in all, incredibly useless company. but I will be happy to update my review with positives if they actually prove they can deliver from now on. We shall see...

Absolutely shocking what this team tried to get away with. I rented a fully furnished flat which had not been cleaned or inspected on handover to me. I had no working appliances or hot water for 4 months, at which point I’d had enough and left the property. They tried to retrieve almost £900 from me and it took me 6 months and the help of the ombudsman to put this company in its place, I’m convinced the landlord did not have any knowledge of the way their property was being managed… stay clear

Valuation?? They can't be bothered!

Booked in a valuation with Bridgfords. They called the following morning at 830 which was very efficient. Was advised over the phone that this would take 30 minutes. Had a phone call from the Sale branch on the morning of the appointment. Asked if i intended to put my house up for sale, said it would be dependent on the equity we have in the house. He said the valuation would take and hour and a half and he could send a virtual valuation. It sounded like the guy couldn't be bothered at all. If this is the level of experience you get from someone that is trying to get your business, I would hate to think about the experience you would have selling through this place. Really poor service!

Very disappointing - whole process of collecting keys was a huge faff & had very little support through my purchase leading to a delayed completion as they weren't sure they had the keys or that the tenants had vacated. Would not recommend.

Landlords (and tenants!) - avoid this agent

To use a phrase, Bridgfords / Countrywide are an omnishambles, when it comes to being a landlord's agent. Landlords - Do yourselves and your tenants a favour and choose a different agent. You will end up doing just as much work managing Bridgfords (actually Countrywide) as you would managing any issues directly yourself. Two particular incidents that wound me up were when they charged us for work done by a decorator, which the decorator later admitted was never carried out; and secondly after forgetting to charge a tenant for costs due to them, they charged us instead, after deposit refund - without agreement or notice (money they still refuse to refund).

Traumatising and outrageous service. 1) Ableist - the building lift wasn't working for several years, making it inaccessible. This is disgusting and shameful for wheelchair users to not have access to a large block of flats in 2025. Upon moving out I had a severe spinal injury with medical evidence that I wasn't able to walk or move - Bridgford's response to this was a hostile, evil demand for the following month's rent where I had two boxes in the flat that I was unable to collect. 2) Don't believe in human rights - the flat was without hot water for 6-8 weeks in accumulation, with no emergency callouts despite access to hot water being a legal right as a tenant. 3) Evil staff - Gregg Cameron has an almost scary lack of empathy and compassion. He takes joy from hearing that a tenant was living in the property not paying rent, and even more happiness when demanding rent from someone who was not present in the propery or using its facilities and was unable to collect 2 boxes of belongings due to being physically incapacitated. I assure you if you decide to go with Bridgford's you will be left devastated and traumatised. I have genuinely never experienced such disgusting treatment from anyone in my life, and I grew up under daily physical and emotional abuse. I would take moving back home, over ever choosing Bridgfords, ever again.

Got bored of chasing them

Called multiple times to try and get a viewing booked in. Was told multiple times someone would call me back. Got bored of chasing them. They seemed far more interested in getting me to speak to their mortgage broker, and I hadn’t even viewed any houses with them yet! I have no idea how they manage to sell any houses. Quite clearly a load of sales people trying to hit targets and not actually that bothered about selling houses.

Joanne price has been absolutely amazing during my whole process with repairing a boiler that blew and electrics being completly damaged. Joanne went above and beyond her duties to make sure me and my young daughter were okay during the stressful situation I was in. She made sure all repairs were carried out within 24hours and making sure I was updated every step of the way I couldn't thank her enough! Joanne also phoned me every day just to check everything was going smoothly and I was okay and my daughter was okay I couldn't be happier with her. Absolutely brilliant lady.PositiveProfessionalism

Buying my first home with them was a fantastic experience. As a first-time buyer, I really appreciated their guidance and clear communication at every step. They were professional throughout: from well-organized viewings to their support during the offer and conveyancing stages. In particular, Sam, my broker, did a great job getting good deals and really looked after my best interests. The entire team truly listened to my needs and made the whole process less complicated. I highly recommend them for their expertise and good service!

We recently purchased a property on behalf of my my daughter which we originally started at the beginning of September. Due to covid it was very hard to get in touch with both sets of soliciters, which started to cause a lot of stress as nothing seemed to be getting done then came Lily Haggie from Bridgfords she was constantly in touch with us and both sets of solicitors, even down to staying back to drop off the keys. I have recently gone through the process of selling a property for the 1st time. The sale of my property was not as straightforward as I'd imagined however I have to say the help I received from Bridgfords was exceptional and in particular Lily Haggie. Lily had to deal with an awful lot throughout this sale for a long 8 months but she did everything and more, she really did go above and beyond to help me as her client and to make sure she could keep me up to date and communicate effectively with me. I can honestly say it was a pleasure to deal with Lily and her professional approach to her work. Thankyou again
