Debra Carter at Lymm was outstanding. She put dozens of hours into viewings for my property, obtaining feedback from potential buyers, and passing that feedback promptly to me. She was professional, communicative and responsive. Debra made several suggestion of small modifications that I could make to the property to make it more attractive, which I did. I could tell that she was personally determined to sell my property and her tenacity paid off. Eventually she went beyond the call of duty and sold my property to a friend of a friend, by directly making them aware of the property as they had not seen it online. Debra is an asset to the company and I presume her value and is recognised by her superiors.

Terrible communication

I would try to steer clear of this company if possible. We have rented a property through this agency and it has been a nightmare. Communication is horrendous, you cannot get hold of anyone at all. We even went into the branch about our queries and still were told that no one was available and someone would contact us (which they didn’t). The property was not ready for us to move into on the agreed date and we were not told about this until we chased and chased about needing more info on moving in.

We used Gascoigne Halman Lymm to market and sell our mother's house. We were very impressed with the whole process, from the marketing brochure and photos, through to the showing of people around the property (our mother had moved into a care home by then), to the sifting of offers and all the way to completion. They showed an excellent knowledge of the local market and the credibility of potential buyers. We have particular praise for the post acceptance help we received. There were a number of issues to be resolved and Sam was invaluable in chasing and keeping tabs on the solicitors, especially the buyer's solicitor. We are happy to recommend them.

We’ve just moved to Lymm purchasing a house through Gascoigne Halman, our first contact was with Paula who viewed a couple of properties with us, she was brilliant always on time and very knowledgeable about the local area, after we had an offer accepted we dealt with Sam who was equally brilliant, she steered us through the exchange and completion, Sam was in touch weekly and was always available for any questions, excellent service from both thank you for helping.

Absolutely terrible experience with…

Absolutely terrible experience with this letting agent. After the landlord withdrew an agreed offer, we were left out of pocket and still have not had our deposit returned. Communication has been poor throughout, with constant delays and little accountability. We felt completely unsupported and ignored when trying to resolve the issue fairly. I would strongly advise others to be very cautious before dealing with this agency. They tried to make us send them thousands of pounds with no contract given then last minute withdrew the offer and are refusing to give the deposit back. Absolutely dreadful agency.

Excellent throughout

Absolutely excellent from start to finish of the house sale - one local agent kept phoning to see if we 'had come to a decision to market the property' which lost them any business, whereas GH did the visit to see the place and then said they'd leave us alone and it was up to us to give it the go-ahead or not. No pestering - excellent. Once we gave them the thumbs-up we had a string of viewers within days, and eventually exceeded the guide price by a small margin which suggests the guide price was accurate too. The staff at Gascoigne Halman were always on hand and worked brilliantly, especially Georgia who made sure everyone was kept in touch with any and all news and developments as things progressed, resulting in a sale a fortnight before Christmas which was exactly what buyers and sellers wanted. I would heartily recommend this outift.

We bought through Gascoigne Halman and our experience throughout was great. Ben went out of his way to get us a viewing on our now home in what was a tight timeframe and then Sam was so helpful and knowledgeable throughout what turned out to be a very smooth process. Would highly recommend!

It has been along slog but we got there in the end. I want to thank all the staff at Gascoigne Halman- Lymm Branch. From Andrew the manager who initially valued my house and gave me some really good advice and all the lovely sales staff. I think all of them have been in my house showing potential buyers around. The staff care about you and are genuinely invested in selling your house for the best realistic price. We did have some hiccups- I lost a buyer because they lost their buyer so I had to move on and the staff helped with their positive comments & feedback. Sam has been the chief negotiator in the latter stages and want to thank her for her reassurance and professionalism. Sarah always has a great smile and Debbie showed me around the house I purchased and did some negotiating on my behalf and kept me up to date. Thank you all so much :) Jo

Poor service and disappointing behaviour after tenancy agreement

After completing our tenancy with Gascoigne halman. Despite leaving the property in what we believed to be a clean and acceptable condition. We received a £550 deposit claim, including charges for cleaning (£250), decoration and painting (£150), and a radiator leak (£115). I have rented this apartment for 1 year. When we first moved into the property, it was in poor condition and had a noticeable odour. We raised this with the agency several times, but no action was taken.

Awful management and communication

As per all the other negative reviews - terrible communication - poorly written emails, unprofessional in manner and just awful to deal with. From moving into property, water pressure issues and constant cold showers. After months of back and forth was told (by a manager) 'oh well you are on a rolling contract, so you can just find another property' as appose to just having the issue fixed? Turns out it was a pump needed for the boiler, and of course the landlord did not want to pay as it was 'expensive'. It wasn't. Paying over a grand a month for no hot showers and terrible management is expensive. Clearly they prioritise landlords and not tenants. We left as suggested and do not recommend for renting at all - save your self the stress and sour puss faces.

A very special thank you to Gasgoine Halman Lymm in regards to the recent sale of our apartment in Lymm. From the day Mr Andrew Rogers came to value the property to completion date things could not have gone smoother, a highly professional and knowledgeable team whom we would not hesitate to recommend, we were kept up to date by Sam every step of the way, a truly calming influence at all times. Also Debbie who showed us around prospective properties to purchase, once again in a highly professional and knowledgeable manner.

Highly recomment Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield

After 3 aborted sales with Purple Bricks which consumed 14 stressful months due to lack of support, wrong price, no vetting of purchasers, etc., etc. I decided to use Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield to sell our house. Within 1 week Matthew Clark and his team had vetted a new purchaser who was right for our property, truly had the funds, and was highly likely to follow through to completion (which they did).I can't recommend Gascoigne Halman enough for their proactive advice and follow-up, aiding the purchaser and keeping me informed. I found them friendly and easy to communicate with. No waiting for someone to answer the phone for inquiries and prompt replies on email. When the exchange of contacts and completion time came, they helped pressure crucial solicitor communication so that we met the target dates keeping me (the seller) and the purchaser happy. I can't recommend Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield enough. Thanks, folks, you deserve the credit, and will be using you again for another property sale.

Negligent - Do not rent from them

My husband and I moved into a property managed by letting agents Gascoigne Halman in Chapel en le Frith in November 2022. From the start we had major issues with the property; it hadn't been cleaned, the water pressure was terrible, in fact prior to us moving in after pointing out some defects during a viewing the electricity board had to be brought in to make the electrics safe! There was rubbish left in the loft and cellar and an open manhole cover with standing water in the basement with a pump in it. We had been told this was a usable storage space by the agents. It was not. It flooded more than once ruining our property and was horrendously damp. The wetness in the cellar rose through the house making it constantly damp and mouldy. The window frames were so rotten you could push your finger through them. The front door lock was insecure and you could push the door open with a hard shove. The shower seal was leaky and caused staining downstairs. The shower barely worked then stopped altogether. I believe the property would have been below the required EPC rating for letting if it were tested last year. These are just a few of the catalogue of defects. (I have photographic evidence of all of this). It took months to get some these things rectified and over 200 emails. I have made clear that one of my emails be treated as an official complaint but nothing has come of it. Often we were simply told 'the landlord doesn't want to spend any more money on the property'.We requested a reduced rent rate from £900 to £500 expecting a negotiation with the landlord. He took over a month to respond and then offered £850 despite our explaining the extensive damage to our property and us having paid for a shed to move our things from the cellar. The agents then sent messages chasing arrears. After continuing to press for the landlord to fulfill his legal obligations we were eventually hand delivered a section 21 notice (our tenancy should have run until November and they delivered this in June which I think may be in breach of the rules). The landlord claimed to not be able to afford repairs and needed to sell the property. This all happened over an 8 month period and I have to believe there is some sort of recourse for us. The property should not have been let in that state and we should be able to claim damages for our ruined property and loss of income (I work from home as a contractor). Having rented for over 20 years I have never had such a terrible experience. We moved back to Chapel to be closer to my elderly parents to care for them and now because of the lack of affordable, appropriate property we have had to move further away ultimately making them suffer. We have contacted the property ombudsman who have advised we have a case against Gascoigne Halman we just need to to follow it up. We have managed to find a private let and now moved at great personal expense through no fault of our own. Our new property is clean, well cared for and seems heaven after 9 Cross Street.

A great team who dealt with an extremely stressed couple with professionalism, patience and understanding. Sam was able to calm the emotions when I was ready to give up completely. G & H (Lymm) were dealing with the house I wanted to buy and they went above and beyond to achieve the result we wanted. I would recommend G&H to anyone who was thinking of putting their house on the market.
