I rented this apartment for a two-month…

I rented this apartment for a two-month stay. It was a disappointment. Throughout the stay, there were consistent delays in resolving basic matters. Requests often went unanswered and required multiple follow-ups. You should be warned that there is construction in the building next door. The agency and landlord did not disclose this. Most concerningly, despite having departed the apartment months ago and received a report from them that everything was left in great condition, we have still not received the security deposit. It seems that their delays may not have just been bad service but rather bad faith.

During the last few years we were assigned a new property manager called Harry Crookenden to service our rental apartment in Southfields and the service since he has taken over has been simply outstanding. Can't recommend Chris and John D Wood Southfields highly enough. Chris supported us through the process of selling our home from start to finish. John D WOOD Battersea Park Road Disingenuous and incompetent. Having engaged JDW to sell a property in Battersea, they were full of promises and , quite frankly, untruths! The Property attracted a buyer quite quickly, and we were assured that the purchaser wanted to complete within a few weeks- 6 . We instructed Solicitors, and they started the work. After being repeatedly assured by JDW that the purchaser was very keen to get the sale completed, after a number of weeks I phoned my Solicitor to ask progress. A phone call was made to the Purchasers Solicitor by ours, and She was told that the fees for searches had not even been paid! No work hard been done. We cancelled the sale, and received a bill for over £2,000 to cover the work involved that we had asked to be undertaken. Lazy, incompetent, doesn't even come close to how we feel about JDW

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

If I could give 0 stars I would. I've rented 10 years in London and I have honestly NEVER been treated so awfully or experienced such unprofessional conduct. I truly wish I'd read all these reviews before I accepted a property through them because how these people are even in business is beyond me. They are useless, lie on tap and speak down to you at every opportunity. The onboarding process itself was bad enough - they (Alexandra, Emily and Samantha) were rude throughout, moved my move in date multiple times causing me to lose money and ignored any of my queries when I tried to get clarity on what was going on. But the second they wanted an answer - or for me to pay something - they would harass me relentlessly (including when I was at a funeral, which they were well aware of at the time). The property, which for context was fairly new and modern, was then handed over to me uncleaned (i.e. black surfaces, gunk in the shower, tea stains all over the floor). In itself this was bad enough and a breach of contact on their side, but I then quickly learned the drains were completely blocked too. They left me for months unable to use my own shower as the tray was completely full by the time the water would even get warm, rendering it inaccessible (thankfully I had an alternative via the gym but no compensation or apology was given for months of no access). Throughout this, they would either ignore my emails or respond with stupid comments like 'oh I think we just need a new shower head' (?) every time I tried to chase. I eventually had a (dodgy) plumber sent round who clearly made the problem worse as despite fixing the initial 'block', the shower began leaking shortly after. A different (and this time decent) plumber managed to fix it but told them they would need to carry out follow on work as it was soaking underneath the floors and they would need taking up to dry out properly. Of course they ignored this and within weeks the flat was COVERED in furry black mould spanning across the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The smell was literally unbearable and they didn't bother actioning anything until I threatened to contact environmental health (not that they ever properly fixed it, just painted over it). I literally spent my own birthday sleeping freezing cold on the floor (so I could be next to the open window) just so that I could breathe outside air. I had to throw out so many of my clothes as they smelt so bad afterwards, and they had the audacity to send some btec handyman over after telling me they were sending specialist mould removal people. This guy literally wandered over to Tesco to buy some own brand mould removal spray and asked to use my cloths (which obviously then had to be binned) to try and clean it. Clearly that failed given the scale of the issue and after smearing it all over the place and ruining my cloths, he then helped himself to my hoover and stupidly tried to hoover up gunky chunks of mould causing more damage to my personal property. There's a thousand other stories I could tell including them refusing to tell me where the meters for the property were so that I could take readings (on move in day they told me their inventory people had taken them and they would be sent to me - this turned out to be a lie), nor would they give me a key to my own letterbox for over THREE months. Turns out the meters were inside a locked cupboard that I needed a code for but despite finally getting access thanks to a neighbour, I still couldn't even set up my own electric bill as I needed the letters inside the postbox to do so. I left as soon as the break clause kicked in because I was making myself ill with the stress of dealing with them. I also knew they were going to act up and try and scam me out of my security deposit when I left. The flat was given back to them in pristine condition, and a thousand times better than it was given to me in, so they had zero authority to try anything but I was one step ahead just in case. I also got in contact with the LL behind their back and let her know everything that was actually going on without her knowledge. Turns out she hated them too. Quite literally the worst company I've ever encountered. (Just want to add that Gina was the only person I encountered who was ever polite but sadly I didn't meet her until the point I was leaving!)

Sharp Decline in Service and Unauthorised Marketing, Disappointed with JD W Wood & Co Lettings

I let 2 properties through J D Wood & Co letting team in Belgravia, London SW1V since 2024. Over time the quality of services and customer care, accounting has plummeted. Rental statements are issued up to 7 days late; random fees are deducted, for example I got charged fees usually applied to overseas landlords although JDW have all my documents proving I am British, live in Britain etc. In addition although I negotiated clear cut service contract with JDW, they still apply randomly irregular fees opted out of. Then in 2024/2025 they restructured and their system went crazy with shifting the responsibility away from the local office I dealt with. I got so frustrated I terminated their agency. On the marketing side their letting team manager offered to visit and discuss potential letting of a property I have in Pimlico. Next thing I discovered that he went ahead and advertised the property to let without my approval. He even used other agents floor plans and pictures in the add! He was confronted after I was told about the advertisement by another local agent. JDW withdrew the advertisement and I have refused to deal with them since.

I wish that I read the reviews prior to my dealings with this agent. I’ve been a landlord for decades, have mostly stayed with the same company for a very long period, any issues were always resolved promptly and I felt that my custom was important. Having engaged JWD for a very short time, I’m bitterly regretting my decision. Before tenants were found, I stipulated that the I’ve always directly seen to any issues arising from the tenants regarding the property, that I engage my own contractors. But lo and behold, JDW has taken a “FLOAT “ from the rent received. It’s not possible to contact the person responsible as they only have “SKELETON “ staff working!! Since my engagement with the agency, having spoken with a few people, it transpired that there are quite a few disgruntled people like me who find that the agency doesn’t provide an adequate service.

We have been working with John D Wood Southfields for more than 5 years now, wether it concerned the purchase of our property, or the letting. This time, I’m extremely pleased with the work and effort that Amanda has put since day one on this new tenancy. I’m not saying this because it is a happy ending for us, but mostly because she contacted us immediately, stayed in very close communication till the end to close the deal ; thus, despite the difference in time zone. We sold our house in Southfields through John D wood and Chris was our main contact . It took us just over a year to sell our property and the best thing was that we got near enough to asking price . The best thing about Chris was that he was always available on the phone and mobile and returned e-mails very promptly . I would also say he was more realistic about the selling price than other agents were and with his proactive approach we got to where we needed to be . I would use them again in the future
