TrustpilotDO NOT USE DAVID MCKNIGHT
I would absolutly not recommend this branch, To be honest more perticularlly David McKnight! He is a vacant in helping us rent our mothers house the second you pay him some money he is gone like a ghost. He never gets back to us when he said he does and i mean NEVER.He says he will check in with the tenants but doesnt we have o speak to the tenants directly! What am i paying you for David? And while were talking about payments David accepts part payments from my tenant "on my behalf"! Great only half the rent will be collected this month! But sure as hell David still get his full cut !

TrustpilotAbove board but....
The apartment we rented was as described and shown. Not ideal but nonetheless we chose to rent it for 6 months so can't blame Martin's for that. Reasonable service regarding viewing, acceptance and welcome. Initial issues either never or late at being resolved, poor mid term response to the more serious issues including damp and wall fungus in winter and, to add insult to injury, no direct reply regarding return of deposit other than minor spurious charges which I didn't contest in order to escape from their unprofessional clutches.

TrustpilotUnprofessional and rude!!
Booked a viewing for a Saturday and we got a text message a couple of days before saying they wouldn’t be able to access the property that Saturday so could we reschedule it! We proceeded to re-book it for the following Saturday. A few days before this Saturday we received a message to say apologies but the property has already been let and we have to cancel the viewing. So unprofessional and rude throughout the process of contacting them to book a viewing!

I cannot name the branch because a crime has been committed but without further evidence there is nothing that can be done. My partner and I are in the process of moving out of a rented property and left the house two days ago with all windows closed and secure. We both checked this. I popped to the house yesterday to retrieve something and noticed a window open. Another window in the house had a latch left in a strange position. My partner confirmed that he had not touched the windows. We have strong reason to believe a sneaky viewing has taken place in our absence but without further evidence we cannot report anything to the police, as what has been committed is a criminal offence. People beware!

TrustpilotAbsolutely terrible - avoid
Terribly customer service from day 1. The apartment had numerous faults and problems that were not solved throughout the tenancy. They then charged for all of the faults and “extra” made up problems. My full deposit of £750 was taken - and they also demand I pay and additional £243 for the pleasure of their horrible service. Worst experience in my life.In particular the two female staff Kelly and Tracy and the most incompetent and lazy women that’ll you’ll ever have to deal with. Very sour.

TrustpilotVery poor service. Avoid at all costs.
We have been renting for many years and never have we come across an estate agent this poor.We as tenants have always had such pride in treating the house our like our own home. Keeping it immaculate at all times and taking good care of the property. Being with Martin and Co, they made us feel horrendous and really made us feel like we shouldn’t be there and that we were just ‘renting’. We had our usual quarterly visits with feedback such as; you need to clean the shower glass window and make sure you keep it up or; please do not leave your clothes drying on an air dryer as this can bring in mould. I used to clean vacated properties for a living and to be told what to do in the property was disgusting. Customer service at an all time low not to mention how rude the MD of the office was to us on many occasions. We lost most of our deposit when we decided to no longer stay at the property. We couldn’t face being signed with them for longer than we needed. All in all, very rude and poor service throughout.

TrustpilotBEWARE TENANTS!!!!
BEWARE TENANTS!!!!I rented a house from martin and co in Leicester. I paid them the deposit and fees by debit card in their office on Narborough road.I moved into the property and the boiler didn't work, I emailed martin and co s it was summer that it wasn't major but would need looking at before the cold weather came. I had 3 young children. Martin and co responded by giving me 2 mobile phone numbers and an email address and then informed me they were TENANT FINDERS ONLY!!! and were not responsible for maintenance. I would never have rented a property had this been made clear and not hidden in the fine print of tenancy where it said 'contact the land lord direct for maintenance' I had basically paid them £300 to put photos on rightmove n sign paperwork. I was left with 3 small children, 2 mobile phones which didn't ever get answered and an email address which was again ignored. By oct my house was freezing and I decided to move out. The land lord sent round unregistered gas man who created a gas leak!!! He was swearing in front of my children it was disgusting. I had to PAY BRITISH GAS OUT OF NY OWN MONEY to come round, the boiler was condemned and unsafe. I have proof of all this from gas safe register and british gas. I REPORTED MARTIN AND CO AND THE VANISHING LANDLORD TO THE GAS SAFE REGISTER. I HAVE IT IN WRITINGThe landlord has now reported me to the council for HIS unoccupied property ( whichb he has rented out again as I saw the advert by martin and co), thinking Im going to be liable. Think again! Martin and co had given me written evidence that they had cancelled me tenancy and returned the keysRang the landlord on the scrappy mobile number martin and co fobbed me off with, to be told it wasn't her, I recognised her voice.Martin and co are quick to take money and charge fees but then rescind all responsibilityWhen I said I would review on trust pilot he said if you lie we will take it down. NONE OF THIS IS FALSE, the only ones who mislead are Martin And Co. They do not make it clear they are not managing properties cos they are so desperate to get fees. The next stop for me is my MP. Martin and co are not to be trusted, they are rude and unhelpful when you complain. Do not rent from them and if you do make sure you confirm what you are paying the fees for

TrustpilotBeware Landlords!!!
Beware Landlords!!!I pay Martin and co a fairly large monthly fee to fully manage my property. If i get any maintenance issues that I want them to resolve on my behalf they use there MAC maintenance contractor’s (MAC is Martin and co) They simply sub contract the work to local tradesmen and add a large percentage on the bill before passing the invoice onto me! They are not acting in my best interest. I already pay a fully managed fee! If I’m not happy to use Rip off MAC maintenance then I have to arrange the repairs myself as I am currently doing with a boiler in Nottingham. I may as well manage the property myself.I have been misled and wasn’t made aware they charge a fee for all repairs they arrange on my behalf on top of the monthly fee I pay for management of the property. If I ask the office staff, they are not transparent about fees!Definitely wouldn’t recommend from a landlord prospective as they are out to rip you off at any opportunity.

TrustpilotUseless
Staff at the Guisborough office simply don’t care. I signed a 6 month lease over the winter only for the heating to constantly break, sometimes took several days to fix which is unacceptable. Radiator in the kitchen never worked. Eventually I had to purchase electric heaters at my own cost. Was told I would be reimbursed but never saw it. At the end of the lease they tried to convince me to sign a new lease by offering me my money I was owed but made it clear I would only get it if I signed. Joke of a company would give 0 stars if I could. Avoid at all costs.

I have been renting a property in dover for over 3 years through martin and co my daughter's bedroom is full of damp the landlord bought paint and a bleach spray round when the property was being rented through halhams but since m&c have taken over it the last 3 years i have been mugged off even had the letting agent Richard Horton say that the damp is due to cooking in the kitchen REALLY. He also got my property confused with another property saying that all work would be carried out by Jan 25th. this company is a bunch of cowboys. I am pursuing this further. as my daughter is constantly ill they are quick enough to take rent money but you have to fight and fight to get anything done and I am still fighting

TrustpilotMartin & CON.........AVOID these cowboys
Unfortunately, I can't select less than one star but Martin & Co should be called Martin & Con! Absolutely the worst letting agent I have ever come across. All staff, including their manager Alex at the Manchester Central branch are totally useless and incompetent.I am a landloard; they have charged me for the goods twice and I have been chasing them for 2 weeks to resolve this but no one has responded at all. So frustrating. They are good at purchasing mystery items that just materialise hoping landlords would not notice. In short, they are cowboys.AVOID AT ALL COSTS as they are just a bunch of thieves.

TrustpilotA company of fraudsters
I'll skip mentioning the unhelpfulness and rudeness of several of the staff members as that has been amply covered in most of the reviews about this company. My particular experience with Martin & Co (Balham) was one where they fraudulently attempted to claim part of my deposit with fake charges. I was renting a small flat from them for about a year and a half. A few weeks after my tenancy ended and I moved to another property, I requested my deposit back. In response, they emailed me saying that they would release my deposit if I accepted deductions for "professional cleaning" services of £150. I pressed for a receipt and quoted the tenancy agreement that clearly stated that the tenant would not be required to pay for professional cleaning unless the property was left in a worse state than received (which was not the case). They did not even bother to respond to my email. A few months passed with no response from them when I decided to chase them up on the status of my deposit. An additional week passed before Bethanne came back with the same story of the cleaning charges, only this time the amount they were claiming transformed to £75. I once again pressed for a receipt. The best they could come up with, a week later, was an email with two quotes from a cleaning company that they probably got on the day. I called Bethanne directly, said that I wouldn't accept the charges and that we would have to go through TDS adjudication. A few hours after that they dropped all claims on the TDS website. It was very obvious that they did not pay a single cent to clean the property (and thus had no receipt) and they were trying to fraudulently get me to accept fake charges. I'm currently looking into escalating this issue and go through the official channels to accuse them of attempt to defraud. Avoid companies like this and just rent directly from landlords.

TrustpilotDo not even think about it!
I normally rent directly from landlords, but this time, I did not bother and I decided to rent through an agent to avoid hassle and headache. To my surprise, it is worse than renting from a landlord. I paid £350 for references and £120 check out fees. My first problem was with the right to rent checks where they insisted that me and my wife must be physically in the office to perform the right to rent checks which was pain in the neck to do as we were moving from London. Anyway, we followed the rules in the end and were forced to go to the office. After that, we moved to the flat to find the flat in inhabitable condition. The first thing we found in the kitchen was rat poison. Spider webs are everywhere, the flat stinks of damp smell. All the smoke detectors are outdated. Some of the light bulbs did not work. The doorbell does not work. The washing machine seal is covered with dirt and mud. The kettle covered in oil and grease. To my surprise, I realised that everything was written in the inventory which I received after I moved into the flat. Martin & Co finally sent a maintenance man to fix the detector. I was not informed by the visit (no 24 hours notice). My wife was asleep to find someone barging in the flat. I complained and was informed by their manager in Cambridge that this was a clerical mistake! ''I have looked at this, and unfortunately there was a typo on the “works order” we sent to the contractor, which stated that “new tenants enter the property on 31st February”, rather than January, as originally planned''. So far, my complaints have fallen on deaf ears. By the end of the day, I am stuck with them for 6 months and I will never ever rent through them again. If it is too late for me, this is a warning for others. This can look like a bad luck but by the end of the day all this could have been avoided if I was dealing with decent professional agent!

TrustpilotAbsolutely rip off. Avoid at any cost
Absolutely rip off. Avoid at any cost . Before you move in they charge all fees to the highest rate on the market . And when I moved in, stove is broken, dish washer is broken , fridge is not working and fault bulbs and door handles everywhere. Marks on the wall are unbearable .Each of it takes more than a week to get fixed . When I finally moved out after my tenancy, they file claims more than my total amount of deposit. Including the things were already broken when I moved in. Besides, anything a bit dirt or dusty they charge for a replacement . Their very poor quality cheap plastic blinds( either it falls by itself or any wind will blow it off) charge me £240 more to replace . I didn’t even use their table so just leaving there for six month and it collects some dust so they charge me 247 to replace it. Can you believe it?! Basically they just want your money for their whole redecoration . But I doubt if they will use the money on the property based on the condition when I moved it . I rejected couple of their ridiculous claims and filed dispute to DPS, see what happens .

TrustpilotUnhelpful
I rang to express interest in a letting they had and asked to be considered as a tenant. They weren’t interested or very helpful. Apparently they just go with the first person that expresses interest and don’t disclose any other interest to the landlord.Poor and wont bother looking for anything else through them.Someone could do with training the staff in customer service as it was clear that they haven’t any skills in that area.

TrustpilotSeveral years back they took admin fees…
Several years back they took admin fees and checks of approx £400 on a property from my retired father (who was helping me out to get a rental) when we viewed we were pressured to pay or risk losing the bungalow. From there on the communication was dreadful. They made excuses every time I asked how the checks were going. It is my belief that someone else viewed the property, who was a better prospect. They hadn’t even done the bank checks or references as they were supposed to. I had to assume that we didn’t get accepted for the property as no one would tell us. I asked for the £400 back but they refused. After much chasing, the manager of the shop said I might get half the fees back. But it never happened and we were left high and dry. Absolutely criminal. My advise to anyone using Martin &come, is don’t do it! But if you must, then make sure that you get written communications from them, ask them to confirm anything you have discussed on the phone to be put in writing. The communications I did get were all via the phone, but I could not use this as evidence since it was their word against mine. I have rented a lot and always in good standing, and excellent quarterly checks. This is the only agent I went with, who went through all the processes verbally on the phone. Leaving no evidence of our conversations or agreements.very disappointed and angry!!!!

Absolutely disgraceful service. They aren't looking out for the tenants or the landlords, only themselves! I've not seen this level of incompetence my entire life. DO NOT EVER trick yourself into thinking these people are professionals, they will take your money and do everything possible to avoid your best interests. They may temporarily lull you into a false sense of security, and then they'll double fk you. Read more reviews and you will find the TRUTH.
