Inefficient, repetitive and doesn’t understand no

A really inefficient company that doesn’t communicate at all. Im continuously receiving calls asking if I’ve sold my property that they originally sold to me (in 2016). They’ve been advised I’ve already moved on from that property and each time I’ve been reassured that they’ve now removed me from their system during the call and yet here I am, repeating myself once more. Sort it out Connells, upgrade to a single system or train your staff to undertake simple admin and remove customers as requested.

Very poor for letting landlord…

Very poor for letting landlord properties. The management department failed to deal with issues to the property. Staff come and go and always a new person that needs to be brought up to speed. Landlords pay letting agents to help and in this instance I felt they were an unnecessary middle man making the problems worse and should have been paying me. Definitely poorer for using them.

Disgusting service

Carried out a survey on my property undervalued it by 25000. Arrogant man showing off with trainee, attended my property. Devalued my home leaving the shortfall unaffordable for most buyers. Playing god with people's lives would recommend Mortgage providers stay clear.

If I could leave zero stars I would

If I could leave zero stars I would. After 7 weeks after moving out of our rental deposit we still have not had our deposit refunded or a portion of last months rent after we moved out refunded. I have made formal complaints to Connells and had very little communication from them in regards to this. With the cost of living crisis facing everyone at the moment I find it shocking that they would put customers who paid rent on time every month and cared for the property like their own through this. If we ever look at renting a property again or even when we come to buy a house, I am extremely put off using Connells

-5 Stars (Terrible)

If I could give minus 5 stars I would. Absolutely abysmal service from them from start to finish. Happy I have now moved out of rented accommodation and in to my first home which was not purchased through them. Constantly told lies that things would be sorted, money would be released, people would be coming to fix defects etc. Never called back, never given honest and true information. Staff always changing. Never any consistency. Landlady completely out of the loop as she lives out of the local area, didn't seem too bothered that her and Connells left me and my partner without a working boiler over the Christmas period. Everyone I have spoken to about Connells has said how useless they are and I couldn't agree any more. P.S - Still waiting for my security deposit and they already have new tenants in the property! I'm sure if I'd have missed a rent payment you'd have been quick to call me asking where it was... Awful.

Thieving & Fraudlant

I was renting a property through Connells and have recently left the property to buy a house. When leaving the property I requested my deposit back. Connells tried to claim money from the deposit for a property clean despite the fact I had left the property in a better condition than I moved in to 5 years ago and they have to pay for a property clean when a tenant moves out. I also had a cleaner clean the property. I requested the inventory report from the date we moved in to prove my point. The inventory report sent to me was dated 1 year and 3 months prior to me moving in the property and the name and signature which was supposed to be mine was forged on said document. Connells/the landlady tried to use this fraudulent document for financial gain and 3 months later they are still trying to blame a previously employee for the forged signature. I also made an overpayment by 1 month in rent which they have now accepted, however are trying to take a pro rata charge of 2 days from it. When I gave my 1 months notice I wanted to leave the property 2 days before the date they said I can leave because of the 'rent due date'. So this is now the second time they are trying to take money from me and still don't have am answer to the forged signature. My advice is avoid at all costs and make people aware of what they are like. The mortgage process was also awful, lack of contact and not calling back. In the middle of a process the mortgage advisor would go on holiday for 2 weeks and not even leave your case with another colleague. I was left without life insurance for weeks because the mortgage advisor hadn't sorted it properly and decided to go on holiday and not leave it with another colleague to sort. I hope Connells realise, I won't have someone forge my signature and get away with it

The worse estate agent

This estate agent do not know what they are doing on a day-to-day basis, issuing keys to your house where you are still living there and not informing you that the surveyor was calling around.Staff seem very uninterested in working for the interests of the customer , been rude , not using you given name, telling you that they have been working very hard ( which is what they are supposed to do ) also placing the phone down on you. Made 4 complaints on this service, still unknown what is happening about these complaints , as with the rest of the service it’s on hold ! Would never use them again and if people are wise they will not use them.

Rude call centre agent

I received a call from seemingly a call centre after initially speaking with a helpful chap in the Leamington office for a property i was interested in. I wasn't aware that my details would be shared for general sales calls, i only wanted to be notified for potential properties. The person who called me asked questions around my property, valuations, and mortgage options. On the latter point i said i was going to stay with my mortgage provider and port due to fees. She referenced reduced rates with other lenders, but i referenced we don't want to pay a £6,000 fee to our current lender. She then said "so don't you want to save money?" as though I'm some sort of idiot. I said that i doubt highly that a new lender could give me rates so preferential that the £6k would suddenly become irrelevant. Cheap sales tactics and frankly not the way to speak with potential customers.

Just wanted to say how great the Connell`s Mortgage Service Manager Ali was, he listened to what we wanted to achieve gave us the right level of advice with lots of options to consider and helped with the paperwork, nothing seemed too much trouble. 10/10.

Avoid like the Plague- they are thieves.

Connells rob money from landlords with undecipherable payment statementsso far they have stolen £500 each calendar month from ourselves since January 2022, Filing complaint after complaint just doesn’t seem to have any affect, Due to their incompetence in accounts Payable and complete lack of customer service I have been pushed into arrears with my mortgage lender twice.. They fail to pay the correct amounts and they are never on timeThey are supposed to be the leading nationwide Letting agency, but they consistently steal from their customers, fail any deadline they are legally obliged to. Connells you are basically crooks and sort your stuff out, Don’t treat EU citizens abroad with such discrimination, you lost a customer for good, if anyone wants more detail just respond to this.

Poor service, bad communication

Poor service, badly trained staff. These cowboys went out to a property for a valuation, ended up providing a 'Nil Value' due to a crack in the plaster. I couldn't do anything else but contact a structural engineer to write a report to confirm that Connells were so far off the mark it was unreal. Communication, absolutely terrible. If you do contact them, every answer you get is '7 days'. When can i see my report - 7 days. When can I have an update '7-days'

Abysmal

Abysmal communications throughout the process of purchasing my property. Estate agent consistently gave me the wrong post code, leading to errors on the solicitor forms. Estate agent asked me for help with help to buy forms for another buyer as they couldn't do it themselves. Hounded me to exchange early with no benefit to myself. Took weeks to respond to a valuation request from the mortgage company. Falsely declared the building had been signed off by building inspection. Missed the completion date. Despite their delays, I was then threatened with my purchase being dropped by Connells as I sought to get a new mortgage as a result of the constant delays (even though this would have been a breach of the exchanged legal contract). Would give 0/5 if I could.

If I could give no stars I would

If I could give no stars I would! Trying to purchase a property in Devon advertised by them and foolishly with hindsight accepted help from their “mortgage broker Rob.” Rob by name and Rob by nature! £698 down and no mortgage so went through our bank! … still not sure if we can buy the house! Financial Ombudsman awaits….

SLUGS

SLUGS, mould, no deep cleaning. That's what we complained about at our arrival on the property. It is disgusting, it's unhealthy, this is not what we are paying for. This is supposed to be a house for a family with SMALL CHILDREN. It's been A MONTH we started reporting these issues! No action has been taken, despite us complying with every request for proof, visits, emails, reporting. The lack of professionalism, simple human decency and bare management is more than appalling, it's criminal. Connells has been made aware of the situation, the house is uninhabitable and our health is affected by it and yet nothing has happened. This company is a disaster.

Poor mortgage service

Poor mortgage service. Had to chase constantly for progress. Calls never returned. Many emails gone unresponded to. No communication whatsoever, and now berating us for them not being aware that our purchase had completed. After the last 4 emails receiving no reply, why would I update? As soon as they have their fee they don't care. Despite signing up for the lifetime service, I will never use Connells for a mortgage again.

Don't waste your time

Exactly the same experience described here by others (Connells in Exeter in this case). If you don't go with a mortgage brokered by them, booking a viewing is near impossible as slots are reserved for those in the list of "premium buyers" as "instructed by the vendor". The reason they gave for that: sellers want financial certainty and apparently only their financial adviser/mortgage broker can provide that (and not, for example, an agreement in principle by other mortgage lenders). Keep in mind this is *before* doing any viewings. If by any chance you manage to do a viewing with them (we managed to book a viewing just to find we were not on the list when we got to the property) don't bother to make an offer: we offered well above the asking price and the agent couldn't have shown less interest or intention to contact us (we never heard anything else from them with regard to the offer).

Unprofessional

Unprofessional - As an experienced property investor with an ever expanding portfolio, I placed a very good offer on a property requiring modernisation. My offer could not be progressed and would not be passed to the seller until I had visited their in-house mortgage advisor as they apparently had preferential rates. This is company policy I was told, and they prefer to manage all aspects in-house, I was even told that all other bidders were undertaking this process so if I wanted to be considered I need to do the same - this is not in line with FCA guidance. Even though I explained that I wanted to use my trusted mortgage advisor that I have used for every purchase over the last 15 years, this was not good enough. Terrible service from someone is supposed to be the branch manager (Tyler Copp), never experienced this before and don't appreciate being intimidated and pressured to do something that legally I am not obliged to do. The worst bit is that the poor buyer who has trusted these agents will never be aware of the offers they have missed out on because of this behavior. Avoid and go see a local independent agent.

Avoid!!! Scammers!! Slow!!

Wanted to view a property connells had on the market but they wouldn’t let me view unless I met with their mortgage broker first. I met with them but had met with a few others previously who gave me better deals.I wanted to place an offer on this property and they told me because I was using a different mortgage broker they won’t “prioritise” my offer unless I went with their mortgage advisor. So I felt pressured in to using them.It took them 2 weeks to get back to me (after me ringing to see if the offer was accepted) and finally they came back saying no, even though I’d offered full price, the vendor wanted £15,000 more.I loved this house so much I agreed.I wanted a survey done on the property and could not get anyone at Connells to give me information about availability for a survey- despite the house being empty.3 weeks in (5 weeks since my viewing) I finally get a response that the vendor will let me have access for a survey,Met the vendors and they told me that they told them they had to use premier property lawyers to do all the conveyancing. They also told me they would have accepted the asking price and connells told them there was a bidding war when in fact nobody else had viewed the property. So they lied about that to get more money from me.I’m now 11 weeks in to the process with no chain as I’m renting, and a vacant property.11 weeks in I still have not secured a mortgage offer because the mortgage advisor is slow, condescending, and couldn’t give a damn. Doesn’t respond to emails and doesn’t answer the phone- they notably screen calls.I’ve rang a few times off other peoples phones and they answer, ring off mine, they don’t.Now, the mortgage advisor has told me he wrote something wrong on the initial mortgage application and because of this it has had to be amended and therefore I have lost my lower interest rate on my mortgage and cost me more money over the fixed term! All because of his mistake.I ring up at least 2 times a week and if anyone answers from the sales team, they just tell me the person I need to speak to will call me back the next day. 4 weeks later and I’m still waiting for that call back. The vendors conveyancers who were also forced by connells, premier property, are an absolute pile of junk and 11 weeks in haven’t even sent my solicitor the pre-contract that the offer has been accepted!I was duped to use their mortgage broker who has got me a crap deal, and still no offer after 11 weeks despite making me pay a 25% deposit as apparently that’s the only mortgage I could get. The estate agents don’t respond. They duped the vendor in to using PPL- all for their extra commission. The vendors have also said they have left the door unlocked when showing me around the property.I’m on the verge of giving up on my dream house because this is too long and stressful and nobody responds to you!!!!
