We are first time buyers and bought our house through Fry and Kent. Michelle Tattersall could not have been more supportive and proactive in chasing the Seller's solicitor and our own solicitor (who caused the most problems). Highly recommend Michelle and her team. As a former tenant, I advise not to rent through Fry & Kent unless you are absolutely forced to. If you do rent through them, make sure to check the inventory documents, record all observations, review them with the agency, take photos and keep them in safe place, because after the contract ends, they will charge you for things that might be damages or faults from the previous tenant, and do not be fooled by verbal promises as they did with me.

We always aim to manage every tenancy with fairness and transparency. Both the inventory and check-out inspections are completed by an independent company to ensure impartiality. In the event of a dispute, this is referred to the Deposit Protection Service (DPS), an independent body that you engaged with at the time and through which deductions were agreed. All inventory and end-of-tenancy reports follow a clear, documented process designed to protect the interests of both landlords and tenants. At the start of each tenancy, we encourage tenants to carefully review their inventory, raise any observations, and maintain their own records to help prevent any later misunderstandings. It’s important to note that Fry & Kent receives no financial benefit from this process. We are not permitted to charge for it, and any funds involved are transferred directly to the landlord, on whose behalf we act. We also note that your tenancy ended several years ago, and are therefore surprised that you've waited this moment to raise a concern about the end of tenancy process. Delighted with the assistance provided by Fry & Kent with sale of my property in Old Portsmouth. The initial valuation was realistic, the marketing approach sensible and productive and the advice on other professional contacts very helpful. Their local knowledge was strong and very helpful. I was particularly pleased that Fry & Kent did not try to oversell the property but pitched it in a way that brought good viewings and achieved a good offer quickly. Their help on tying down an agreed price was very professional. Throughout the subsequent process through to completion I was kept well informed and administrative and practical issues were dealt with quickly and effectively. I would strongly recommend Fry & Kent for their market knowledge, their sales professionalism and their administration support. Very good and enjoyable to work with.

Over the course of a year I have been dealing with Fry and Kent and in particular three key members of their staff. It has not been an easy year in the property market and not everything has gone smoothly. Yet the members of staff I have dealt with have been very knowledgeable, kind, personable, and efficient. While it was not smooth sailing going through the house sale process, they were helpful and gave good advice. I have done well with them and fortunately I was not tempted to go elsewhere. The final long-winded process of getting to exchange of contracts was tortuous to say the least, but not because of my agent. Their advice and professionalism, especially Ms Tattersall, was invaluable. I always felt she worked really hard on my behalf and it was her advice and information which kept me calm. I do thank all the staff enormously.

The Southsea branch has the most helpful and charming employees at Fry and Kent. In particular, Faye and Lin, who excelled themselves in undertaking a gruesome and grubby job when no-one else was prepared to do so and, they did it with panache and good humour! Suspicious of some sharp practices from Fry & Kent lettings! Just moved out of a flat which was left immaculate but as we moved out a few weeks before handover, they found a few dead flies in the bath and wanted £90 to clean it and witheld my deposit. They also mysteriously ‘lost’ a copy of the inventory which had recorded comments about the dirty state of the flat when we moved into it and spent two days bringing it up to an acceptable standard of cleanliness. It was supposed to have been cleaned professionally, but the cleaners must have only wiped the surfaces. I did dispute the excessive £90 charge and had photographic evidence to prove how grubby the flat was when we moved in, compared to how clean it was when we moved out. After a few robust emails arguing my case, they gave up and finally returned the deposit. Big hint when letting from any estate agent is; go over the inventory with a fine tooth comb; take dated and timed pictures of any discrepancies; make sure they are recorded in the tenant’s comments section and keep all correspondence with them. I would not recommend Fry & Kent. Pictures show a supposedly ‘professionally cleaned’ property!!

I genuinely would recommend Fry & Kent to anyone looking to rent. Previous to Fry & Kent, I had an awful experience renting through Ashbourne's. However Fry & Kent from the start offered incredible service. From letting us view a property the same-day, to a simple reference process which meant I didn't have to wait too long before I had confirmation. We had some initial trouble with our boiler and washing machine which Faye dealt with immediately and even went above and beyond by bringing round chocolate and flowers for the inconvenience - a super lovely touch. With Ashbourne's the process of terminating the contract was an absolute nightmare. However Fry & Kent made it feel like a breeze. The agreed date was stuck to, the check-out process was professional and no argument was needed to get the deposit back (I had to go through TDS to get my deposit back when renting through Ashbourne's). It's been over 6 months since I rented through Fry & Kent and I'm still pleasantly delighted by the whole experience. I would definitely recommend Fry & Kent to anyone looking to rent.

I couldn’t rate Fry & Kent more highly. This is my 4th house purchase and my most pleasant experience of dealing with Estate Agents. If it wasn’t for Michelle Atrill I do not think my purchase would have completed. In addition Helen Pemberton gave me the best piece of advice “you will always have students in Portsmouth, however, in Old Portsmouth you will have a different calibre of student” a statement which made my decision for me. I also had the pleasure of dealing with Albert Zarb-Cousin. All the staff at Fry and Kent were extremely helpful however, I specifically dealt with Michelle who was informative, knowledgeable, gave me great advice and chased the chain continuously, which was not her responsibility, I cannot thank her and the team enough. Definitely would recommend, if we ever sell, Fry and Kent would be my first port of call. Thank you all.
