I've now sold two properties through Ellis Hay. To have the dedicated personal service of husband and wife team, Phil and Sam Hay, made me feel like part of a family from the outset, rather than being just another customer. Later, during the process of receiving offers and arranging viewings, Sam was equally able to negotiate seriously with potential buyers, and communicate with them and various lawyers and other parties, as easily as she was simply able to quell the anxieties of her client. This personal service is something I have appreciated a great deal, along with their endlessly efficiency and immediacy of service and very competitive commission rate. I was not able to get to know all the staff at Ellis Hay, but I should also mention that Becky was an endless pillar of strength and wisdom in dealing with tenants when we used the firm as our property rental agents. A full Five Star rating, and many thanks for making my selling experience something to look back on with pleasure and to be able to recommend to others: not just once, but twice.

Disappointed. I emailed them at the start of the week to request more information on a property for sale and to book a viewing, no reply. I had to send a complaint email for them to reply to me. I had a viewing booked on a Saturday 1.30pm, viewing agent no show and didn't contact me to tell me they was running late. I got a phone call at 1.44pm saying they are at the property and do I still want to view. Wasted my time.

Very disappointed with my experience with Ellis Hay in Scarborough. I’ve contacted them regarding three different rental properties. Each time I received the same automated response ‘application unsuccessful due to the high volume of applicants’, which was in response to me applying to view the properties. I have a bilateral large volume pulmonary embolism I’m recovering from. I’m currently not working as an outdoor pursuits instructor due to my ill health. I want to return to work as soon as possible. I’m currently in receipt of PIP and universal credit, I have a guarantor and can pay rent upfront. I have never missed a payment and have an excellent credit score. The only reason I wouldn’t have been allowed to view any of the three properties is because I’m currently not working due to my ill health which is out of my control. I can meet the rental payments as well as provide a guarantor. I’m 24, all I want is my health back and to return to the job and volunteering I’m so deeply passionate about. Very disappointed in Ellis Hay to say the least. Discrimination comes to mind.

I viewed one property with Ellis Hay and there were two things I didn't like: 1. When I asked why the property had gone off the market and came back on 8 weeks later having increased by 30k I was told "either pay it or don't". No need for a rude response like that, it's a perfectly reasonable question to ask. 2. The house that I viewed was saturated in cat urine to the point that Ellis Hay are putting people in danger by not informing them of this ahead of time. I'm not talking about a slight whiff, it is soaked in the stuff. You're not just going to be ripping up the carpets, you'd be ripping out floorboards, joists, salting the earth and then maybe you could live there is about 150 years. So maybe they should give potential buyers a heads up so they could come wearing a hazmat suit! As a buyer I've viewed quite a few houses with several different agents and Ellis Hay really didn't measure up when compared to the others. It would be worth remembering that potential buyers will likely become sellers in the future. On the back on my experience with them I'd never choose to list my house with them. To respond to Ellis Hay: I wasn’t ‘offended by the living standards’, I was never told anything about the smell. If I had been I would have brought my face mask with me and informed my father in law so saying you informed me is at best a mistake and at worst, a lie. The agent who showed us round never even mentioned the smell before we entered, she simply said it needed a lot of work.
