GoogleI'm writing this review to commend the work of Matt at Ocean Estate Agents, Portishead. I have met Matt a number of times while viewing properties and he is always excellent. Matt knows just how to put people at ease and strikes the perfect balance between professional and friendly. I really feel that Matt brings joy to each house viewing and he is great at showing potential buyers the best features of each property, as most suits their own needs.

GoogleI used Ocean property lettings for 5 years to manage an investment property. I had a great service which gave me peace of mind as a Landlady as they dealt with any issues raised by the tenant and could source trades people if needed quicker than I could. When I decided to take over the management of the property myself in the last year Keith McKie in the Portishead branch was very helpful in assisting making a decision which was right for me. Ocean sourced good reliable tenants and it made the whole experience as stress free as it could be. If you are a new landlord/ landlady and lack confidence I would recommend Ocean Lettings.

My sale seemed to be passed around the office, nobody seemed to pay much interest. As a result, important information wasn't passed on to me as quickly as it should. The sale has now completed, but I haven't heard from Ocean since then. They really don't care.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. As an independent, family-owned estate agency with 40 years, we have always taken great pride in delivering the highest level of customer care. It is always disappointing to learn of negative experiences. Your case file has been thoroughly reviewed by our Sales Director, in consultation with the Sales Manager, negotiator and Move Manager, to ensure we learn from your comments. In terms of the team’s involvement, our specialist valuer, Clair, handed over the sale to your negotiator, Hal, as is usual. Once an offer was accepted, your Move Manager took charge, navigating the complex transaction to a successful conclusion. There were instances when communication was handled by your sales negotiator and office manager due to your Move Manager’s annual summer leave.We acknowledge that one email was not responded to within our standard working day policy, for which we apologise. However, our records indicate that a response was sent outside of working hours on the same day. We note that your buyers mortgage lender required a Deed of Variation for the lease. They requested multiple changes, causing delays. Rest assured, our sales team and lawyers did their utmost to expedite these issues.We value your feedback and assure you it has been taken seriously. We do however believe our team made every effort to deliver the best possible service. We hope your subsequent move has been a positive experience.Best regards, Ocean

Simon got us a great rate on our mortgage and over the course of the process has been very responsive to ensure that we were getting the best deal available as lenders updated their available products. A fairly pleasant experience, until the branch manager was involved. I have never been spoken to the way Jason Bunting spoke to me. As a solo, young female buyer, the experience was hard enough as it was. The poignant moment for me was when the tenants of the property I was purchasing weren’t informed properly that a valuer was coming round, and therefore didn’t let them in when they arrived, as they didn’t know who they were. The bank then tried to charge me a £150 no show fee. I rang Ocean to say that this shouldn’t be my fee to pay as they should have communicated that the valuer was coming round to the tenants properly. I then had Jason tell me to ‘remember he did me a favour’ when he cancelled viewings for me, after my offer £15,000 over asking price was accepted. After trying to argue with me, I asked to speak to someone else who could speak to me in a calmer tone, for him then to tell me ‘i’m in charge of this office, there is no one else to speak to’. I wish I had recorded this phone call, as I have never had someone speak to me like this. Disrespectful and disgusting behaviour from him, he tainted the whole experience for me, which is meant to be an exciting and happy time buying my first home.

Our overall experience with ocean was spoiled due to numerous hiccups throughout the process. Whilst I appreciate the market is tough/ the process is slow this seemed to encourage a lack of pro activity. Firstly, when we were taking viewings we stopped receiving email notifications of the appointments as they had updated their system. There had been a handful of viewings whilst we were not home and unaware of, this only came to light when we were home on a Saturday morning and the agent surprised us and let himself in with buyers. We went on at the advised price then were encouraged to take a 10% offer on the property quickly being advised it’s a good deal. I had to ask the agent to keep negotiating a few times until we got the price up (I assumed they would try and get the best price before encouraging us to accept). We had a slow conveyancing process which is impossible to find the causation of - however the progression team I did not feel understood the process. We would receive confused & confusing emails which we had to try and make sense of between us and our solicitor, which on several times turned out to be incorrect information from our agent. I would almost weekly contact the agent and ask them if they can please chase outstanding documents / information as they wouldn’t do this on their own accord. I would not hear from the agent and then have to phone through to another service to hear the progression team are away / not in the office / on annual leave for a week or so - so we’d been unknowingly chasing aimlessly. Near the end I felt we had to apply a lot of pressure and hard work to encourage the agent to help us get it through. Phoning anyone in the agency we had the details for to try and ask them to speak to our buyers solicitor etc as it was difficult to get hold of the people we needed to. We were luckily I had experience in the conveyancing process so I was able to help chase and push it forward - as I truly don’t feel like we would have completed if left solely with the agents. The housing market is tough which is the reason we employ estate agents and pay them large fees, to support us through this process. The lack of urgency, clarity and experience we had to deal with made this process much harder than it needed it be. We were a chain free seller selling to a first time buyer, this should have been fairly straight toward. If you are totally in the dark about the selling process or are in a rush, I would advise another agent. Just a note - Iona who covered some of the conveyancing team when they were away was extremely helpful during this period and we were very refreshed and grateful for her support. Secondly, the photographer hired to take our photos was very professional and did a really good job. Thanks to them.
