I have had a great experience at buying me new first home

I have had a great experience dealing with Chancellors, Aysha and her team, were always quick in returning any information that I requested about the property that I was buying and kept me in loop if there were any delays involving with the vendors. I recently made an offer on a rental property which was accepted. Throughout the process I was rushed by Chancellors staff into paying both the holding deposit (which I understood was required) and the full rent, despite the fact the landlord had not yet formally accepted my offer. I was told this was necessary to secure the property. The landlord later withdrew the offer, which I accept happens, but retrieving my refund has been a completely unacceptable experience. I dealt with Ben Newman (Central office - Brackley) and Ibrar Hussain (Headington branch). On Tuesday I was assured my rent payment would be returned to my account via Faster Payment within 24 hours. It is now Thursday, and despite repeated calls and emails yesterday, I was passed around branches and colleagues clearly avoiding my calls. When the tenancy was being processed last week, staff were available until 6pm, yet now I’m told they finish earlier. The inconsistency and evasiveness is extremely concerning. Not only this, on Tuesday after you promised the payment, you attempted to take another £403.85 from my account and every email asking why has been ignored. For a company of your size, this level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. I am still owed £1,387.50 and expect this amount returned to me today. If it is not, I will be escalating this to the Property Ombudsman immediately. As someone who works in venture capital with colleague's who regularly invest in property, I have already warned them to avoid Chancellors due to this experience. I find it extremely underhand. I expect confirmation and payment without further delay.

Landlord's perspective - terrible

From a landlord perspective, absolutely terrible. They picked contractors to do work which went wrong (plumbing leaks damaging my property). I replaced a shower and then a year later they told me it needed replacing again (no pushback to the contractor on my behalf). After a tenancy they started showing people round and only weeks later and having been advised to lower the rent did I discover the property had been left in a terrible state (they should have advised my after the first viewing). They also advised a tenant to change the locks (without informing me!) so at the end of the tenancy when I returned arriving late I couldn't enter and had to sleep in the car.
