Even one star is too many. Had the misfortune of dealing with this branch during a recent purchase, and once our offer was accepted, they simply didn't return our phone calls despite assuring us they would. Promised us a fortnightly update by phone (their suggestion) and after 10 weeks we had heard nothing. Had to constantly ring to try to get answers or information but they never got back to us and didn't answer most of our questions in the end either (and it was all pretty basic stuff). If I were looking to buy again and these were the selling agents, it would stop me inquiring about that property.

Ours was not the quickest or easiest sale ever recorded, but we got there in the end and have no complaints about Barbers. Their team was always available and ready with good, sound advice. Excellent point in our book was that they always returned your calls and responded quickly to emails. Would recommend.

LANDLORDS AVOID. I had a bad experience when trying to view a property within hours of it going on Rightmove at a remarkably low rental price for the house/area. Excuses were made, lies told, calls not returned... even when I went into the office in person asked if the landlord would take 6 months rent up front to secure the desirable property. I was then told that the rental price had gone up, no doubt a bid to put me off but I still thought it was a good price. I was never given the opportunity to view the property along with many others, I’m sure. It was ring fenced by a colleague to let to a friend. I was then lied to again and told that the landlord had found his own tenants and taken the property off the market. Barbers did not act in the best interests of the landlord and exploited their position and trust instilled in them. After going through the complaints procedure, they then offered me money not to report them to the ombudsman... so weird! Obviously, I turned them down. Don’t let Barbers play god with your property.

As a renter, I’ve just tried to leave my details with Barbers lettings, openly and honestly. Ok, I’m only looking to rent for a year and yes the rental market is buoyant at the minute but to not even consider taking my details to scope any possibilities…really? And to basically be laughed at because I’m only seeking a rental for a year, I find that offensive. So what should I do? Lie? Is that not counter intuitive? Oh well lesson learnt, don’t deal with Barber Lettings.

Faultless service After joining the mailing list for rental properties, I was contacted by a member of staff and shown around a lovely property perfect for my needs. I viewed the property and immediately decided we would like to go ahead with the application process with a view to potentially securing the property. I was told a few days later that the rent had increased slightly but these things happen and I had fallen in love with the house at that point so I filled in the relevant paperwork, ie credit/ financial check and was able to secure the property which is a lovely family house. I can’t fault the professional, hard working and organised staff who have made the moving process run very smoothly and they continue to be of valuable assistance and support. Would highly recommend.
