The worst agency ever - avoid John Fenton

The worst agency ever. All they can do is take money from the landlords and then provide zero service. John Fenton - area manager - has not actioned my complaint for three weeks - I want all of the fees I paid refunded.The tenants were not properly referenced (the agency lied they were a family), I could not get access to the property even with notice and therefore couldn’t do sale viewings, the agency didn’t chase rent arrears, it didn’t help me negotiate deductions for damage to my property from the deposit and didn’t do a check-out report.Two months after the tenants have moved out my complaint has not been actioned,I have not got any of the deposit or rent arrears.I told John Fenton and his superiors I have posted a review, as I was very disappointed with the service and even sent them a screenshot. Instead of actioning my complaint Barnard Marcus complained to TrustPilot that my review was fake and tried to have it removed. I then had to provide confidential documents such as rent statements to prove my review was real.Worst service imaginable.Avoid!

Shame on you nicole from north finchley branch. Ive had a horrific experience with marcus barnard agency in north finchley. I went in looking to rent a flat that i liked. I followed absolutely everything submitted my documents and bank statements on time. Only for them to message me and lie about my refrencing telling me it has failed even though there was no reason for it to fail. ( obviously not giving me a proper reason they just said its failed and i asked why? they said we dont know ill have my manager call you which he never did!!!!!!! ) These people are liars and thieves they steal from people and took advantage of me bearing in mind i am disabled i feel discriminated against as i wasnt given an actual reason. These people steal money and lie about refrencing i am very shocked by this whole situation i have lost out on money and valuable time with these people. Im talking about the north finchley branch they are horrible if i can give 1 star i would. AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU DONT WANT THEM STEALING FROM YOU.

The worst experience really traumatic for our whole family

My experience with Barnard Marcus estate agents was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. I was excited to sell my property and move on to the next chapter of my life, but unfortunately, this process ended up being a major source of stress and anxiety.One of the first issues that arose was the fact that the agency encouraged me to overprice my property. At the time, I trusted their expertise and experience, but in hindsight, I now realize that this was a major mistake. As a result of this overpricing, the level of footfall and interest in my property was much lower than it should have been, leading to a protracted and frustrating sales process.In addition, the level of communication from the agency was simply not up to par. I found that I had to constantly chase them for updates and feedback, and every time I called, I was told that the person dealing with my sale was either on a day off or sick. This made me feel like they were not taking my sale seriously and led to me feeling very frustrated and anxious. It was simply not a good experience.To make matters worse, they offered me a lower rate selling fee as an employee referral, but it turned out to be a higher rate than other estate agents. I felt misled and taken advantage of. The agency was simply not transparent with their fees and charged me more than what they should have.The worst part of my experience with Bernard Marcus, however, was when I realized that they were failing as estate agents, but would not let me out of my contract or move to a dual estate agent without significant penalties. I felt like I was trapped and had no other option but to stick with them, which meant that I lost the house I had an offer accepted on. The moment I changed estate agents at the end of our term of contract, the other estate agents got a buyer the very next day.In conclusion, I would not recommend Barnard Marcus estate agents to anyone. Their practices were unethical and unprofessional, causing me a great deal of stress and leading to a negative outcome. I regret trusting them with the sale of my property and hope that others can learn from my experience.

Please avoid !!!

Please, do avoid. If I was able to give less than one star, I would do it without batting an eye. Not helpful at all, liars and not responsive at all. Since the very start it all went down the hill. Firstly, the property was not prepared beforehand ( we had to clean the property ourselves, prepare the garden and front garden), we have been told that they will get rid of old sofa, it took them more than two weeks to do so and when they have done it, sofa was left outside our property. We had council coming to us because neighbours have conplained, what a distaster ! Now, when we have an issue with draining system outside ( smells horrible and our neighbours complained once again) the agance is telling us that they do not manage the property ?, even tho in the contract it clearly states that if there are any issues, we have to contact them ?? No one even fixed the gas meter ? We had to contact the emergency gas service and they told us that whoever was checking gas, they broke it, leaving it as it is ? When we did the viewing we've been told that the smell is normal and it was coming somewhere from the street !!! Horrible !!!

Would be a zero if allowed - totally dishonest

Would be a zero if allowed. This auction house were clearly told weeks ago that there was a Village Green Application already in progress on a piece of land. Firstly they failed to take notice, secondly they failed to add the Village Green Application to the legal pack. When questioned after the land failed to sell they said it was in the legal pack - it still is not in the legal pack despite them trying to sell the land now on their website. Clearly this is an outright lie. They will be reported to the Property Ombudsman but am waiting to see if they produce a complaints procedure as there isn't one on their website.

Barnard Marcus managed a rental property of mine. They were very slow to react when there were any faults at the property so eventually I took on the management directly. The tenant had paid their deposit into a tenancy deposit scheme organised by Barnard Marcus. On moving out both I (the landlord) and the tenent tried to get the deposit back but 3 months on and many emails later they have still failed to facilitate the release. It is criminal

Barnard Marcus at south croydon took an holding deposit and told us to wait for a month as the landlord is doing some renovation for the apartments and at the end of the month they said they will give us the key to the flat and they said everything is confirmed on the 30th they inform us that the landlord has not responded to them and then they give stories stating that the landlord placed the advertisement in a different website and has given the property to someone else how can they be so careless and not inform us anything for a month and take the money I am really not sure worst ever agencies

Worst agency ever

This is the worst agency we ever dealt with.We have 8 UNANSWERED EMAILS from them. We are due a refund from the landlord, almost a month has gone by and still no refund.I could go on and on about how unprofessional and unresponsive these people are, from the moving-in day (no contract until the day of, no keys ready for us, etc.) up until now.Adding to this: they have always been unresponsive but now that we are leaving and they want to do viewings, they are harassing us with phone calls. They even had the nerve to claim that they could enter the property without our permission. This place clearly doesn’t know that unilateral proclaiming are meaningless and they have zero knowledge of the law. Also, we reported them to the Ombudsman service as we requested the landlord details and they never provided them as required by law.

Having just recently completed on a property in Dorking, being sold through the Barnard Marcus Dorking branch, I was eager to leave a review to express how fantastic they've been! Particular shout-outs to Louis, who was a great point of contact early on in the process to show me around the property and to answer any and all queries, and also to Katie, who looked after the sale progress after my offer had been accepted. As is often the case, back and forth between the solicitors could drag at times, but the team at Barnard Marcus were always on hand to nudge things along :) Upon completion, it was also lovely to be greeted with smiles and well wishes (as well as a much appreciated 'settling in' giftbox) from the team when I picked up the keys at their branch. All in all a great service, and can't recommend them enough. A huge thanks once again!!

On the whole I think the team at Barnard Marcus did a great job of selling my house and finding me a new one to buy (which came back to me after I had lost it first time round. My house had been on the market for several months with another local agent, with 23 viewings and no offer. Barnard Marcus got me an offer after only 3 viewings - that eventually fell through due to delays my end, but they secured another offer quite quickly and thankfully that coincided with the house I thought I had lost coming back on the market. Communication was generally good although I was a little less impressed with the in-house/recommended conveyancing solicitor (Leadenhall), who I thought was a bit slow and lacked attention to detail. The in-house mortgage advisor was also not really worth using as the fee was much higher to get me a mortgage available elsewhere for free - a flaw in the business model there I think. All in all though, very glad to have finally moved after a long wait during Covid and a couple of members of the team were really good.

Illegally force you into using their mortgage services (Connells)

Careful - Barnard Marcus will try to bully you into using their mortgage broker (Connells, which is part of the same group of companies). They said that if we did not, we would lose the house we were trying to buy. The mortgage broker we ended up accepting was horrific, gave us advice which was negligent and was just so horrible to deal with. Absolute racket. They should be investigated by the police.

Flat given in disgusting conditions

I write this review two weeks after moving into a flat managed by Barnard and Marcus. The previous tenant left the flat in disgusting conditions, we found dead bugs under the gas hobs, a stinking kitchen full of flies, dirty walls and floors, a stained old mattress, an old washing machine, and I could go on for a while. The agency has so far done absolutely nothing to help us, and the responsibility just goes from one person to the other. We had to clean everything by ourselves and even had to pay somebody to come and collect the mattress. We called, wrote emails and even went in person to complain (apparently the agent 'wasn't there' but was somehow replying to our email), we tried to ask for the landlord's contacts, and we are still here waiting for somebody to come and assess the damage. Avoid at all costs.

Many years ago I used Barnard Marcus as my agent and had a very bad time of it because of there under hand dealing. The beginning of this year I tried to buy another home and had to deal with them again as the seller appointed them as their agent. Barnard Marcus never told me it was a probate sale and would take a lot longer to deal with. I have been left in the dark for weeks, they take weeks to reply and most times do not bother so I'm doing all the chasing. never again would I use Barnard Marcus.
