GoogleJames Anson accompanied me on four viewings in the Dorking area and was friendly, approachable and refreshingly honest about each property. What impressed me most was witnessing his interaction with vendors. Three were present during the viewings, and James treated them with genuine warmth, empathy and professionalism.
I usually find house viewings quite daunting and not particularly enjoyable, but James made the whole experience comfortable, engaging and positive. A real asset to Barnard Marcus and someone I would happily recommend.

GoogleJames has been fantastic with helping us in our search for the “right” home for our family. Dealing with him solely at the start of the transaction really helped us with our search, because he got to know us and what we did/didn’t like in a property so we weren’t wasting time looking at properties we wouldn’t have liked, or wouldn’t have been right for us. He’s been there to assist us on his non-working days too, which we also appreciate, because he was aware how restricted we were with time. He’s really accommodated us in the process. He always made us feel like it’s not an inconvenience to contact him and he’s always there to help, even if he’s not known the answer, he’s happily investigated it for us to achieve the outcome we are after. James has been very helpful, his knowledge of the area is also a great help and not something you can buy! Thanks James.

Trustpilotuntrustworthy chancers
We had our placed valued and on the market with another agent. Barnard Marcus wrote to me to say they had a cash buyer specifically interested in our property. We varied our contract with another agent to allow for joint agency so we could contract with Barnard Marcus. After the contract was signed they ignored me for two weeks. There was no interested buyer. Fine, I fell for the oldest trick in the book, but as far as I'm concerned that's just dishonesty. They lied. Worse, they ignored us and had terrible customer service. Plus they got loads of details on the online listing wrong. I cancelled the contract during the cooling off period and I had to hassle them for several days (after the cancellation) to remove the listing. Unethical. Now, some brash bozo in their Southampton head office keeps badgering me on the phone. When I said I didn't have time to speak he rudely hung up. Needless to say, I don't recommend them.

GoogleExcellent viewing experience with Sophie. She was knowledgeable about the properties we were viewing, answered all questions & clearly communicated throughout, was professional in showing us around the properties and made us feel comfortable during the viewings. We were very impressed and valued her professionalism and approach to the viewings. We didn't find the right property but if we had, we would have felt confident in Sophie's ability to put forward an offer and manage the buying process for us.

TrustpilotNever use them to let your flat out they lie about tenants they are putting in
Used by my fellow homeowner & friend in our small block of flats . They lied to her told her a professional woman in her 40’s they had lined up to rent her flat . Absolute rubbish the woman that moved in very young here on family reunion visa no hate but they lied . There is now 3 adult men , that young woman & her new baby living up there in a tiny 1 bedroom flat . Noisy , other issues. I’ve complained to Bernard Marcus as a homeowner in same small block . TOTALLY IGNORED . Do not ever use them to manage your home as a rental - ever! Liars who do not care . They will know exactly the property I’m writing about in Chiswick . Near Gunnersbury station . Never bothered to address my complaint or concerns about the amount of people living in that flat with the so called ‘professional’ woman in her 40’s they said they had dealt with before & knew. Liars . The owner is trying to remove them - I hope she sues Bernard Marcus for their deceit and complete unprofessional behaviour . I will definitely back her up 100% .

TrustpilotWe recently sold our shared ownership…
We recently sold our shared ownership flat through Barnard Marcus Battersea. We had already been on the market for over a year, and none of the other Estate Agents we had tried would sell the Share rather than 100%, nor had they been successful. Micheal gave us great advice and confidence that they would be able to do so; and Micheal, Alan, Milo and Andrea were all brilliant, and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. They were communicative and approachable at every step of the way and did all they could to not only secure a buyer but also to make sure that the sale went as smoothly and quickly as possible.

GoogleSophie showed me the property with great enthusiasm and had all the information ready at hand, but most importantly she was not a pushy sales person and didnt put me off :) She has a very bubbly personality and patience - letting me walk around asking questions.
I was given a welcome box when I picked up the keys with lots of smiles (apart from 1 phone call with someone that was too pushy for me) - would 100% recommend using Bernard Marcus Dorking branch :)

TrustpilotWonderful experience with Alan
I had a fantastic experience working with Alan throughout the purchase of my flat. After almost a full year of searching for a property, dealing with many different agencies and unfortunately going through several unsuccessful situations, it was such a relief to finally work with someone as supportive and collaborative as Alan.
From the very beginning he was incredibly professional, responsive and genuinely helpful. Buying a property can be a stressful and complex process, but Alan was always available to guide me, provide updates and help move things forward whenever needed. His communication and dedication really made a difference.
Throughout the entire process I truly felt supported and in safe hands, which is something I hadn’t experienced with other agents during my search.
I’m very grateful for all the help and support he provided and would highly recommend Alan to anyone looking to buy a property. If in the future I ever decide to sell my property, buy again, or need the help of an estate agent for any reason, Alan will definitely be the first person I contact.
Thank you again for everything!

GoogleWe had a brilliant experience buying our home! Bernice Tully was absolutely fantastic, she found us a mortgage that was truly life-changing and turned what seemed impossible into reality: An affordable mortgage for us, when all the high street banks had been unable to help us and we had almost given up on property ownership as it seemed too out of reach. Emma Cronk was equally amazing, efficient, supportive, and expertly managing every detail, making the entire process stress-free. We are beyond grateful for their help, over the moon to be ex renters, thank you both!

After speaking to Trish I switched to Barnard Marcus and I’m so glad I did, within 10 days I’d had 2 viewings and 2 offers at the full asking price. Emma is amazing she keeps you updated on everything and is so helpful and friendly, in fact all the staff are. TrustpilotA huge thank you to Michael and team…
A huge thank you to Michael and team for all the hard work and dedication in helping us sell our flat. Michael put us at ease and gave us the confidence that we were in safe hands. Selling wasn’t straightforward, but Michael and Andrea was always there, supportive, reassuring, and ready to tackle every challenge head-on. What really stood out was the personal touch: the regular updates, the patience, and the genuine care throughout the process. It felt like we had someone who truly wanted the best for us, not just a quick sale. We’re so grateful for everything Michael and Team did and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to sell

TrustpilotVery disappointing customer service
Very disappointing customer service. I called as a genuine prospective buyer interested in one of their auction properties and spoke with Jesse. I explained that I was new to the auction process and had several questions about the property, including whether I could speak with the auctioneer or someone actually handling the lot.
Unfortunately, the conversation felt extremely dismissive and uninterested. Rather than trying to help, answer my questions, or direct me to someone who could, I was left feeling as though my enquiry was an inconvenience.
When someone is considering making such a significant financial commitment, particularly through an auction, I would expect professional, helpful and welcoming customer service. First-time auction buyers should be guided towards the appropriate person, not made to feel uncomfortable for asking questions. A very disappointing first impression.

TrustpilotBarnard Marcus Battersea
I have worked with Andrea at Barnard Marcus Battersea to sell a flat in Wadsworth late 2024 and 2025. All through the sales process I found Andrea to be knowledgeable and supportive . She offered advice on areas where improvement would increase the chances of a successful sale. She also advised on work that would not get a return in terms of increased buyer interest or monetary value.

TrustpilotMisstated the law
Misstated the law, then tried to charge me for their mistake
Barnard Marcus told me the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 imposed a blanket two month notice period on my tenancy, overriding the one month notice period already written into my contract, and that I therefore owed an extra month’s rent. This is simply wrong. The Act’s transitional provisions preserve a shorter notice period already agreed in an existing tenancy agreement; the two month figure is only the statutory minimum for tenancies created after the Act. This is confirmed by a parliamentary written answer (Matthew Pennycook MP) and by the NRLA’s own published guidance, both freely available to anyone who bothered to check before threatening a tenant with unwarranted charges.
I raised this directly, in writing, with sources attached. Barnard Marcus did not correct themselves. They repeated the same incorrect position more than once, despite having been shown the actual legal basis for my notice period. At no point did they act as an advocate for me as their client’s tenant, or even as a neutral intermediary. I had to research the law myself, draft the correspondence myself, and hold my ground myself, while they added stress and manufactured a financial dispute that had no basis in law.
If you are a tenant dealing with this agency, do not take what they tell you about your legal position at face value. Get it in writing, check it against the actual legislation, and be prepared to correct them yourself, because they will not do it for you. Their internal complaints team is just as useless.
Estate agents to be beware of: Ella Hatton, Francesca Groome, Francesca Lewis, Zameer Rahman, Aaron Potter.

GoogleCurrent manager of the Dorking branch (Tricia Regan) has to be the world's most annoying by repeatedly ringing up old contacts on their database from three years ago to try to badger those customers in to having an in person valuation visit on their home and then phoning them repeatedly (at least 7 times in my case) if they won't agree to this.
Tricia is pushy, badgering, persistent, relentless and won't take no for an answer but definitely not intelligent, analytical, logical or efficient. And she is the kind of pushy sales person so lacking in intuition that she simply won't accept no for an answer...
UPDATE ON 29/11/2022 - Re Barnard Marcus's response to my review surely the branch manager ought to realise that people on its books from past interactions do not necessarily currently want to sell their home and that if they did they would almost certainly proactively call Barnard Marcus back to set up such a valuation appointment so they could get on with selling their home. Calling customers back and leaving answerphone messages multiple times on their answerphones suggests something close to an addiction to making these sales based phone calls without either evaluating or considering their effectiveness.
Also the branch manager surely ought to realise that for those of us more actively in the hoarder camp and without neat and tidy and well presented homes that inviting somebody else in to your home to inspect, appraise and value it is something you are unlikely to want to do unless you are absolutely desperate to sell and/or have got to the point where you have managed to tidy it up to the extent that you do want to have a valuation visit and the resulting sales visits from buyers that would then soon follow on from that.
Some of us have also been through major personal traumas such as having our last parent die and being forced to sell a much loved family home of 50 years in the UK and a holiday property of over 30 years in Spain. So having to go through that process again with your own home is not at all easy to do.
I get the impression that the branch manager values quantity over quality in terms of valuation visits and/or number of properties currently on the agency's books. Whereas if they only valued and had on the market well presented homes from sellers with an imperative to sell them ASAP then the would surely be much more likely to get a much more cost effective payback in relation to the time they have put in to conduct this selling work.
Also this bad review would not have happened at all had the branch manager not kept on calling me and leaving messages repeatedly over several weeks well beyond any level of normal reason or good judgement in the making of such sales based phone calls. I received a number of phone calls at much longer intervals apart from the previous manager at the same branch and always found his phone calls pleasant and engaging and did not find myself pressurised to let the agency send staff in to my home in the way that has unfortunately been the case with Ms Regan.

GoogleBarnard Marcus Dorking were who I chose to put my house on the market with as Tricia and the team (Emma and Kirsty) were extremely friendly and personal. I wasn’t just a house owner. Tricia made me feel seen and heard and was very passionate about my home and understanding how difficult emotionally it can be for some people to move. The whole procedure to launch my property was handled with expertise and speed. The photographer was kind and very helpful too. Even though I decided not to sell and consequently took my house off the market , I would highly recommend Tricia and her team.

TrustpilotUnprofessional and misleading
The sales negotiator in the Clapham office was, in my experience, highly unprofessional and misleading regarding key property information. We were told inaccurate information about the service charge during the sales process, and when documentary evidence later contradicted what had been represented, there was no meaningful acknowledgement or accountability. This seriously undermined trust in the accuracy of the listing and the information provided. Buyers should independently verify all details and not rely solely on representations made during the sales process.
