Avoid Hunters like the plague!

Hunters Pontefract are an absolute shambles! We found a property we liked and we wanted to move in, it was a townhouse property 3 bedroom with an en-suite priced at £475. What an absolute steal, right? Wrong! On the day we moved in, which was August 2018 our boiler was not giving hot water as it had no pressure in it. We called someone out who didn’t arrive until 2 days later, you have to report the issue on the internet system they use fix flo. The boiler had lost pressure, the piping work by the boiler had a hole which would leak when pressure needed adding, sadly our boiler kept losing pressure repeatedly and it was up to us to keep adding pressure every 2-3 days as their response when I called is “that’s normal for a boiler to lose pressure” . It leaked into my little boy’s room at one point and we were told we are liable for paintwork and damage. He had to be in our room for over a week due to the damp state of the room until it dried out. They sent someone out in relation to the boiler who said “it’s a number of things that could be wrong so I can’t fix it” We began having a leak from our bathroom and reported it, the gentleman that came out suggested our wall was causing the leak and to monitor it. It began leaking into the living room, for weeks no one could identify the issue. Lastly, an agent that came out noticed our tiling as he advised it was really to fall off and was not fitted correctly condemned us from using the bathroom and came out again to rip the tiling away. The en suite was the same but this is still awaiting fixing. Anyway, the leak was not getting better and we couldn’t use the bath or the shower for over a week so were using the en suite, the leak kept getting bigger and bigger. I was at the doctors and they asked if someone could come try and fix the leak whilst I was out which I agreed to, I came back to my home and the living room had a gaping hole in the ceiling full of dust and mold. I was cried that much my mum called the contractor to ask what on earth he had done but his point was “well, I’ve fixed the leak but we can’t fix the ceiling so arrange that with hunters” 3 months later and still not fixed! At this point, I asked to be let out of my contract for the safety of my son and what he was living in.My oven door was loose as well, it would stay up right but would fall down with no springs to steady it when opened so was rather heavy to open. They couldn’t do anything as my landlord was on holiday and could not get a response from him until returning home. After the date he was meant to return home, they couldn’t get a response about the oven. Then, I was baking with my son and the buns had gone in the oven. 10 minutes in, I was stood washing up and my son was making icing on the kitchen floor and the oven door started to crash down, I had to push my son out of the way and it hit the floor to glass shattering everywhere, including glass being stuck in my foot which took over an hour to take out. My partner had to come home early from work because I was in such a state but luckily our son was unscathed. I cried and begged them to let us leave on the phone and spoke to Amie who promised a contractor would be out to clean the glass up and try and repair the oven with tools in his van . The man came out in a jaguar in passing from a rugby game, he had been instructed just to take a look. He said before even looking at the oven “it needs a new oven, I will leave you to clean it up” I was shocked. I was expecting to have some help at least disposing of the glass as he was being paid to attend the property so me and my partner had to clean the glass up and throw it in the bin repeatedly cutting ourselves from the glass on the floor. Within a couple of days, the chap was back with a new oven so I was happy with the quick turn around of that.At the beginning of September we were told we could vacate our property the next month as it was requested to leave by October at the latest. We are leaving in a couple of weeks but the repairs such as the boiler and ceiling hole and tiling in en suite are still awaiting repairs and the house is already back up to rent even though it is still awaiting repairs. If you see a townhouse at £475 with these guys and think it looks nice and you want to go for it. DONT DO IT. Avoid Hunters at all cost, they are an absolute shambles!*Update* 2 weeks before leaving whilst packing up they emailed us saying a house viewing was to take place, I asked if this could be done a different time as we’d all be tired after work with no 48 hours notice, solid no. The same day my son was sent home from nursery throwing up and feeling unwell. I called asking if they would reschedule and basically the manager informed me “if you don’t comply, we can keep you in your tenancy and you can’t leave” I told them my son would be laid on the sofa throwing up and they just didn’t care.

This is an exceptional estate agent run by great people Hunters will go out of their way to provide an excellent service and will stop at nothing until your home is sold and completed . They really think out of the box. They are a cut above the chain estate agents which are generally rubbish because the people running them do not have a stake in the business. Makes no difference if your based away from the Branch. They will get you marketed everywhere and more importantly get you sold. I would have no hesitation in recommending this agent. Thank you to Richard, Mark and Tom.PositiveResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism, Value

The team at Hunters Chatham have been exemplary from day one. They have managed the viewings and sale of our home in a professional, courteous and friendly manner. The communication between us as sellers and Hunters has been outstanding. They will call to book viewings, send an email to confirm booked viewings and text you a reminder, which is great, especially when you have many other things which pre occupy your mind when you're selling a home. The team at Chatham are a credit to the company; in particular Richard, Mark and Tiffany. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hunters estate agents.

Hunters Kendal

Hunters. Kendal.Have no problem recommending this branch. Unfortunately lockdown got in the way. Launch was on Wednesdsy and lockdown Friday which restricted viewing. Kept me well informed as to who was viewing. When I did get a sale dealt with the buyer in no uncertain terms as he was trying to find lots of faults to drive down the price. He didn't succeed! Suzanne Jackson valued my property and was informative and good to deal with as were the rest of the staff in the office dealing with Kendal.

North Somerset’s Best.

I’d just like to thank all the staff at Hunters in North Somerset, Yatton, Portishead and Nailsea offices. They have sold 2 Of our private houses for us in the past 3 Years, and one of our rental properties before that. All Were sold in a matter of days. Of the 2 recent sales the 1st one went through smoothly in 2 months. The second was not quite so good through no fault of Hunters I might add.2nd property sold the 1st day on the market but turned out the lady was telling porkies about her funding so she disappeared after 2 weeks🤬Another Confirmed buyer Within the same week and except for the obvious Covid delays, mainly being unable to sort removals, this time everything went as planned. Many thanks to Richard, Mandy and James for their excellent Professional service and I would strongly recommend Hunters to anyone thinking of selling in the North Somerset area. They know the market in this area so well and really go the extra mile for their clients.

Richard and his team were proactively supportive in a way I wish my solicitor had been! Not just in the marketing but throughout the whole process, I found the team to be dedicated, professional, courteous and efficient. They were able to provide knowledgeable advice that was refreshingly different from the other agents we had sampled. For example, instead of wasting time taking measurements at the initial meeting, they took care to do it more accurately when photographs were taken (by the professional photographer). Their telephone manner was always friendly and polite. They successfully attracted viewers from outside the area. All this, yet their rates were average for a high street estate agent in the area. I would highly recommend.

The whole team were helpful , professional at all times in what cannot have been a straight forward move , having checked reviews and phoned a few agents in the Medway area , Hunters were the company I put my faith in and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone wishing to place there property on the market as at every step they are helpful and keep you up to date , what I’d would call a personal service in a non pushy manner . In short Richard and the team were great to do business with .

Dishonest, incompetent and terrible attitude

Should you choose this letting agents here are a few things you can expect as routine:1) Lying about the status of properties on the market and deliberately misleading all parties on the status of such properties.2) Arranging appointments to view properties that they don't even turn up to meet you at.3) Cocky, arrogant and sarcastic customer service. They really do not care AT ALL!Literally the worst letting agent you could ever choose to instruct. As you can see from the other reviews, dishonesty, incompetence and terrible staff attitudes are a feature. There is a reason for that. Be warned.

Extremely bad experience with Unprofessional and Rude people... Preston Road Wembley branch

Preston Road Wembley BranchI regret to say that my experience with your service has been extremely disappointing. The level of unprofessionalism displayed throughout the process was astounding. From misleading information to outright lies, it became clear that your team was not transparent or trustworthy from the start.Unfortunately, after the deal was finalized, your true nature became even more evident. The promises made prior to the transaction were not upheld, and your team showed a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction. I would strongly caution anyone against working with your company.Thank you for making this an experience I will never forget, but for all the wrong reasons.

Thank you so much to Rob

Thank you so much to Rob, I believe, that’s his name for going the extra mile to get my wristwatch fixed. It had unfortunately come apart whilst they were trying to install a battery. I am eternally grateful as the watch was special to me. They were most apologetic and ensured that everything was done to get the thing up and working. So once again thank you for your excellent customer service.100%

Absolutely the worst estate agents

Absolutely the worst estate agents , I booked a flat viewing at 4:45pm on Friday evening , I was left a voice message in the morning asking if I couldn’t attend please let them know, I was attending so not necessary, I drove for 50 mins in rush hour traffic and got to the property about 4:47 pm 2 mins late, on the travel over I phoned up the company 4 times leaving messages saying I will be slightly late no answer, when I go to the property the agent wasn’t there , no phone call to my mobile at any point, I knocked on the door and the owners were there very surprised to see me 🤔🤔 I said hi I have a viewing which they replied oh we didn’t know and there has been no agent there today waiting for me, it was very awkward looking around and then I left, the whole situation was a joke how DARE YOU treat potential renters/buyers that way not even turning up and even letting the owners know, waste of my travel time and petrol money , email the agents and they replied back there was someone there but because u was 2 min late they left as there to busy to wait, CROCK of S**t no one was there confirmed bye the owners, I really hope your company goes bust and u all lose your jobs , I should of look at the reviews on here before contacting your agency as there shocking and the worst Iv ever see. For a company Shameful Sharon mcevoy rude lady stay clear

Hunters- Wallasey branchHunters- Wallasey branch. Horrendous. Absolutely no compassion or care during Covid-19. Even though the landlord is probably taken advantage of his mortgage holidays. Had no working fire alarms since February!!! Don’t reply to emails or answer the phone. DO NOT RENT OFF THESE. House was filthy when we moved in took me 4 days to clean before stuff could be moved in- told them this and they just said rented as seen.

Avoid at all costs. The worst of the worst!

Couldn't have come across worse agents. Took two months to get the house on the market because of continuous delays with contracts, photos and communications. Extremely unresponsive overall, would sometimes have to call for weeks to get an answer or an update. The agents come to house viewings without knowing anything about the house and they lie more than any service provider I've ever dealt with. The absolute bottom of the barrel of estate agents. Avoid at all costs!

If I could give zero stars or negative

If I could give zero stars or even negative stars, I would. From renting the property, collecting the keys, discussing the lease renewal, to the recent issue with rent payments, it has been a complete disaster. When I first viewed the property, I told the agent at Hunter that my current lease was ending soon and I needed to speed up the process of getting the keys. The agent assured me it would be fine and agreed to hand over the keys on Monday. However, I spent the entire Monday chasing them from morning to evening, even going to their office, but still didn’t get the keys. When I arrived at their office, they told me some documents weren’t signed. I couldn’t believe they only realized this after I had to show up in person. The next day, I contacted them again in the morning, and once again, they weren’t ready. It wasn't until late Tuesday, right before their office closed, that I finally got the keys.A year later, when it was time to renew, Hunter told me the landlord agreed not to raise the rent, and I immediately accepted. They sent over the renewal documents, but before I could sign and return them, they called the next day saying the landlord had changed their mind and wanted to increase the rent by £200. I was shocked. How could they go back on their word? Hunter even insisted that the landlord had the right to do so because there were still two weeks before the lease renewal, otherwise, the landlord could end the tenancy. This felt like bullying, but I had no choice but to agree.Yesterday, I received the payment invoice for the renewal, but the amount listed was still the old rent. Since they issued the invoice, I paid the amount stated. Today, they realized their mistake and sent me an email asking for the remaining balance, even rushing me to pay immediately. I was at work at the time, so I couldn’t make the payment right away. Later, Hunter's agency called me, and instead of being polite, they demanded I pay as soon as possible. I told them I was working and couldn’t pay immediately, and that it was their mistake, not mine. They insisted I pay after work, but I had other commitments. I can’t believe they made the mistake but still had such a rude attitude.I will never use this company again, and I hope they go out of business to avoid further damaging the reputation of service companies in the UK.

I had Terrible Experience, Avoid at All Costs

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this estate agent. I paid a deposit for a flat, expecting everything to go ahead as agreed. Not only did they fail to give me the flat, but they also refused to return my deposit. Completely unprofessional and dishonest behaviour. I would strongly advise others to stay away, this is not how business should be done.

Poor customer service

My partner and I are looking to relocate to an area around a 5 hour drive away, we found a property with Hunters and booked a viewing. We loved the property so we asked the agent what to do next and he said email so we can get sent an application form; because we liked the property so much we emailed and called the branch to try and get ahead with our application. No answer from the branch after numerous calls over the period of an hour so we decided to go to the branch instead. After speaking to someone in branch (not part of the lettings team so they couldn't help us) they sent an email over to someone from the lettings department with our profile so they could send us an application form via email. This seems great, two emails, one from us and one internally expressing our interest in the property. However fast forward one week, with nothing from them and more attempts to contact from us, we finally get through to be told that someone that viewed on the same day as us has already completed all the applications and is set to start renting the property. No apologies or anything after explaining the situation and that we'd been trying to get in contact for a week.

Hunters have an exceptional team in their Chatham office. It was only 10 days from the time I spotted a property that I liked in their window to having had an offer accepted on it - and selling my own property. The energy and enthusiasm of the Hunters team was really encouraging. Undoubtedly, the information package, allied with superb photography, was key in attracting a host of viewings that came think and fast in the first few days. We had agreed a price within four days of putting our house on the market. Small things matter a great deal. Hunters never forgot that this was my home first, their sale second. Their attitude was always polite, positive and professional, not to mention friendly and helpful.

Very bad service as they refused viewing access even when I am ready to buy but for them I was not "in good position" due to myself working extensive hours and have said my parents will view on my behalf. Completely bizarre service from an Estate agency and I have never experienced this feeling of being belittled from anyone! I work withing the industry itself and never have I ever refused a viewing for anyone. Incompetent and a company that clearly does not work in the vendors best interest as well as potential new business. I had been warned by others to not go through with Hunters due to their lack of good customer service and now I understand why.

Sonam · 11 April 2022

Agent replied · 25 October 2024

Dear Sonam, This is a very disappointing review considering the lengths we went to try and assist you. It is particularly disingenuous because you are an estate agent yourself. Our vendors, an elderly couple, refused your viewing after you door knocked them at 10.30pm on a Friday night to remonstrate that you should be given access the next day and left an aggressively worded letter with them. When we spoke to our vendors the next day they were particularly shaken up by your actions and absolutely refused your advances. Given that you have experience in the industry we were shocked at your behaviour and to compound this with a poor review of Hunters when we as a company pride ourselves on helpfulness and customer service has a personal impact on myself and my staff.

Where the same review appears twice we show it once. We leave out reviews that name another agent or another of the brand's offices.
