We had Russell Hawkes visit us after three years of trying to sell our late mum’s house without success through local estate agents . He was brilliant, advising how the auction worked and how best to price the property to attract buyers. We were kept informed all the way and watched the auction on line. Perhaps we were a little unlucky. Jade helpfully assisted. In this arena there are a lot of sharks. We believed that Clive Emson was working for our benefit as well as theirs.

wouldn’t use this property auctioneers again if they offered their services to me for free, David Henwood Exeter branch rude arrogant person , very blunt when you need to ask him a question, told me a very low balling figure to start my property sale off at , my property sold under the hammer , then 28 days later the buyer backed out of the sale , never purchased , I was left with a £421 insertion fee paid to Clive Emson upfront this figure I’ve lost , Clive Emson didn’t offer me a refund , they then also took the whole £3000 auction fee and kept it for my themselves , I’m massively out of pocket , solicitor fees and Clive Emson fees,

Massively out of pocket just goes to show auction sale is not a done deal , and you will lose fees paid to Clive Emson if your buyer doesn’t complete and they will not return any of these fees or be companionate in anyway. The only winners in this is Clive Emson they had their money and waved bye bye to me .

NOT happy at all as I was signed up to marketing WITHOUT my consent. I have reported this to the information commissioner's office. If you want to sell your property, without being pressured, or having the hard sell approach shoved your throat, of which I have an independent witness, just go the 'normal' way, and sell via an estate agent. I've used the independent online only agent Property Eagle on a number of occasions, with good success. It's cheaper than an auction, and leaves YOU, the seller in charge of all aspects. If you are in a position, to fritter away money, gambling on getting more than the market rate, you are taking a HUGE risk. Don't do it, if you can't afford to loose money. REMEMBER: Auction houses, are there to make the auction house money, NOT to give you, the buyer 'a good bargain'. You have been advised!

Fine for your bog standard properties I'm sure, but I found no sense of the potential draw of a truly unusual property. Had I gone with them I don't think I would have achieved anything near what my property actually sold for through a different auctioneer, the next day, with a far more personable and transparently explained service who truly understood the character and usp of the place I had. I've learned that 'reach' is not everything and while Clive Emson are big, certainly the agents I saw just didn't get it, and subsequently didn't get me, which worked out greatly in my favour.
