My experience dealing with Damian Sumner at Brasier Freeth was nothing short of frustrating and deeply disappointing. From the very beginning, I approached the process professionally, eager to move forward with leasing a retail space. However, despite my best efforts to communicate clearly and work collaboratively, I was met with an attitude that was consistently dismissive, condescending, and unhelpful. Instead of facilitating the deal and addressing concerns constructively, Damian made the process unnecessarily difficult. His communication style was abrasive, and rather than working towards solutions, he seemed more focused on placing blame and shutting down discussions. Attempts to clarify issues or resolve matters professionally were met with resistance, making what should have been a straightforward transaction an exhausting and unpleasant experience. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of professionalism and courtesy. Rather than acting as a facilitator, Damian seemed to view the process as a power play, disregarding the importance of constructive dialogue and mutual respect. Ultimately, dealing with him was an uphill battle, and I would strongly caution others against engaging with Brasier Freeth if this is representative of how they treat potential tenants. Business should be conducted with professionalism, respect, and a willingness to find solutions, qualities that were sorely lacking in my interactions with Damian Sumner.

Dear Jim, I am very sorry to read about your experience, this is certainly not the kind of interaction we are used to hearing about. Please could you get in touch with me directly in order to discuss this further and offer our sincerest apologies ahead of being in touch. Many thanks Anthony anthony.appleby@brasierfreeth.com

We have used Brasier Freeth in finding new tenants for our hospitality premises in Matlock on two separate occasions. Damian Sumner was totally professional and pro-active throughout the whole process with both parties, including contacting each other in the evenings and weekends to expedite the process. Damian's knowledge of the industry played a major part in securing new tenants at realistic rates, including scheduled rent increases, playing "hard ball" in our favour when necessary, while being polite but firm and resolute. He secured the deals while only considering our interests to the point of taking it personal at times, which I consider to be an asset. I would not hesitate in recommending Damian Sumner and look forward to working with him again at some point in the future.

Damian Sumner approached us after it was announced that Wilko’s had gone bust. They had been one of our tenants in an investment property located in Matlock, Derbyshire and they had been in occupation for the last 25 years + . Damian took a very pro-active approach & quickly lined up several national brands to take over the lease. Ultimately, the receivers did a deal with Poundland for occupation during the administration period and then Damian represented us in negotiating an ongoing lease with Poundland. All thanks to Damian at Brasier Freeth for taking control of this situation in such a professional but down to earth manner. Thank you .

Damian Sumner from Brasier Freeth has recently completed two projects for us. In the first he identified a new tenant for a high-street retail property we own in Southport. Our new tenant is a national company with over 160 branches throughout England, Scotland and Wales. We were particularly happy with this tenant because we believe the different 'strands' of their business makes them reasonably recession proof. We're happy with the 10-year lease that was signed and the level of rent that was achieved in what was a relatively difficult time for the high street. Throughout this process, Damian liaised closely with both ourselves and the tenant and completed the deal smoothly and in good time. The second deal involved a prime-location retail property in Harrogate. We had a somewhat challenging outgoing tenant who was reluctant to engage with us regarding the terminal schedule of dilapidations (TSOD) and a new tenant who needed to gain access to our property at the earliest opportunity. Together with Paul Raitt (a Brasier Freeth surveyor) they managed to negotiate a satisfactory settlement with the outgoing tenant and put in place a 10-year lease with the new tenant. Although completion took a little longer than we anticipated, this was mainly down to the outgoing tenant’s stalling tactics. Damian and Paul maintained a high level of pressure on them to settle whilst keeping the new tenant engaged and informed of all developments. Damian would appear to have excellent contacts in the retail sector and Paul is extremely knowledgeable in his specialist field. They are both extremely professional as well as being nice people to work with. I have no hesitation in recommending their services and those of Brasier Freeth very highly.

We had a commercial unit in Chesterfield town centre that had been challenging to lease. Thanks to Damian Sumner of Brasier Freeth, we successfully secured a long-term lease with a Pepe’s Piri Piri chicken franchisee, known for their strong reputation. Damian’s professionalism and expertise were instrumental in achieving this excellent outcome. We highly recommend his services to anyone seeking a dedicated and effective commercial property agent.

Dear Ers, We felt the need to reply to your comment as it does not represent us or the situation fairly or accurately. In our opinion our colleague dealt with the interaction in a correct and courteous way, outlining the situation clearly. To clarify your offer on a property we are marketing received numerous offers from other interested parties. After your call, a Principal of the firm called you to try to resolve the matter. You did not give him the opportunity to talk, then proceeded to shout obscenities to him before hanging up. We feel we have acted correctly in this matter but do not take kindly to verbal abuse.
