Hi Rachel, this tenancy was done on a 'let only' basis. This means that we step aside after the tenant placement has occurred. Your deposit is held in a DPS account that the landlord set up as directed by us. An independent inventory clerk carried out an inventory and if the landlord feels that the property has not been returned in the same condition, they are within their right to make a claim for some of the deposit via the DPS. We merely informed the landlord of the process and stated if they have the correct documentation, and cannot agree & settle the deposit mutually with the tenants, then they should make the claim, and do this in the correct way via the DPS. You of course have the opportunity to dispute any claim made. So... I am not sure how we are "money grabbing estate agents" - we have no monetary gain here and merely advised the landlord of the process. I am sorry if you feel that we have not acted accordingly and I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you further and have sent you an email but as yet not had a response.
