TrustpilotTerrible
Terrible. We were mislead about the permitt parking when viewing the flat (were not eligible for a permit, but they told us we were), the agency that they used to complete the references asked me for the same information at least four times, they also did the same thing to my last landlord, we weren't given to codes for the building/pedestrian gate/vehicle gate when we collected the key and had to ask for them seperatly, still haven't had the code for the vehicle gate over a week after we moved in. Whole thing was a total shambles, would not recommend.Edit: Four months after I wrote this original review some of the team from William H Brown came to conduct a flat Inspection. I was out at work and my boyfriend was in London on business. When I came home there was feces in my toilet and the only people who could have done it was them. We emailed them about it they were really snotty and basically called us liars. We're moving as soon as our agreement is up, they're unprofessional and disgustingly childish, an absolute disgrace.

TrustpilotWilliam brown managed to sell our house…
William brown managed to sell our house quick enough although it was priced very fairly. However, the solicitors they recommend are useless. If they have a problem they have to look it up on the internet. They nearly lost us the sale over a simple right of access problem. We had to ring the buyers and explain. Their prices are set by browns also.Their mortgage advisor found us a mortgage 2,% higher than an independent. Would never use them or their associates again.

TrustpilotA truly dreadful estate agent
A truly dreadful estate agent. Absolutely no feedback or chasing up of progress during sale. The agent NEVER returns calls and this was also fed back to me by both my solicitor and the vendor's estate agents. In fact, my solicitor was so frustrated by the poor service, she recommended that I negotiate a reduction in fees (which of course was refused by the agent). When a complaint by letter was made, it took over a week for them to respond and my concerns were brushed off with a bunch of excuses. The agent did not even call me to tell me that completion or exchange had occurred! This must be THE most useless agent ever.

TrustpilotTRULY AWFUL AND RUBBISH
we used this company (which became Sequence Housing) to manage two rental properties.the service provided to our tenants was awfulthe service provided to us, the landlords, was awfulall complaints to them where replied to with contempt and argumentative replies.we paid them to manage the subcontractors working our houses, they did not manage anything, we have been repeatedly over charged for very poor quality work.their statements of account are almost impossible to follow, we ended up always creating a spreadsheet and re-entering data into it to try and understand the current financial position.Three months after terminating their services, we are still owed money by them, and they still ignore our requests for information. No statements of account have been received for months, but, I know they have retained hundreds of pounds "on account" despite us no longer being a customer of theirs.even our lawyers (who only had to deal with them three times) think the service provided was sub-standard and unprofessional - "we can't understand their attitude and why they are so difficult to deal with"they constantly still email my father, (who is dead), and my brother, even though he has repeatedly told them he isn't involved with the houses and refuses to work with Sequence,.So, unhappy tenantsunhappy local council officersunhappy landlordsand - quite frankly none of the staff seem happy when you talk to them.and, nobody in the companies management team care at all that everybody hates the company and thinks they are rubbish.AVOID AT ALL COSTS

TrustpilotWilliam H Brown is by far the worst…
William H Brown is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. From start to finish, renting a property from them has been an absolute joke. To start off, their application fees are extortionate and some of the most expensive on the market which is completely unjustifiable, and every single member of their staff that I have had the misfortune of dealing with has been incompetent at best. I had a house inspection arranged (that was their requirement, not mine) that they failed to turn up for without warning even though I’d had to book a day off work and received barely an apology two days later when they decided they could be bothered to ring me back. Granted, few issues arose in the months following that, although that soon changed. I rang them as I was nearing the end of my tenancy to check that I was able to call and pay my last months rent on a credit card due to the fact that I was already paying out for a new property and was assured that that would be fine, only to ring them 2 days later to do so and was told that it wasn’t possible - this then left me out of pocket by £525, and again, no apology or explanation just a ridiculous conversation with a pathetic excuse for a customer service advisor who had no idea what day it was. Then came the battle with receiving my bond back, in which I was essentially blackmailed by another of their so called agents, in order to agree to take less money. I then didn’t receive this tiny sum of money for another 2 weeks even though I was advised it would be 2-3 working days. Even after that, I still didn’t receive the rent back that I had overpaid for almost 4 weeks, at which point when chasing them up for the 3rd time, was told that they didn’t have my bank details and had to send them again - bearing in mind they had already transferred me money from the bond to that same account. After the whole debacle of this experience, I finally thought I had heard the last from them and relieved was not the word, but oh how wrong I was. 3 months after I left the property, I receive a phone call from them accusing me of going back into the house without permission. On what grounds I have no idea, given that they received the keys back from me the day I left the property, not to mention the fact that I’d rather be set on fire than set foot back in that house. All in all, a vile and disgusting company who are after nothing but to line their own pockets and who hire the most patronising, unintelligent low life’s that I’ve ever known. Avoid at all costs if you care about your own mental health and well-being as well as your bank balance.

Terrible. Left us without heating for six weeks. Then served us notice! A very worrying time this Christmas with having to find a new home, and with a disabled child to boot. In the middle of an omicron surge. Very stressful. Definitely do not use these awful agents to let your house or rent from. They do not reply to emails, texts anything and do not listen to reason.

AVOID AVOID shocking service insist on you accepting offer tell you your buyers in excellent position for quick sale and over 6 weeks later buyers still not got mortgage offer, tell you they will call you back they DONT 9/10 , said to manager I’m paying for them to a job I don’t expect to keep chasing them up and get told well you haven’t paid yet , really but I will be paying £4200.00 on completion. Recommend solicitors for you and all they do is ring you asking for extra payments that are not even mentioned in the small print ie my property has 2 land registry numbers they wanted an extra £200 because of this , you are paying the estate agents for basically nothing and all you get is stress stress and more stress

TrustpilotWill NEVER use Willian H Brown again
Will NEVER use Willian H Brown again, as a tenant. Our landlords also agree they will not use the company again and are actively looking to use someone else. POOR management and organisation, no one ever knows what’s going on when we call to chase things up. We have had people come to view the property we were still paying rent on and living in, with no confirmation or even knowledge this had been arranged. Viewers turned up on the day we were moving out of the house, William H brown didn’t even know we were moving out!!! We now have accusations of being in arrears, despite having proof of how much we were told we had to pay (due to leaving the property half way through the month). Our bond is not being released because of this, over two weeks ago we left the property and still no sign of the £950 being sent back. None of the departments have a clue what they are doing. Very frustrating

TrustpilotI would like to leave a review of my awful dealings with William h borwn/ sequence
I would like to leave a review of my dealings with sequences regional manager Rob Jenner of renting a property from him- we signed a years contract in September through William h brown after asking for 2 years but this was refused, our moving in date was 23rd September & on the 18th September we were told this had to be pushed back to the 30th with less than a weeks notice impacting us & the tenants due to be moving into our previous property with no explanation other than Rob wasn’t able to get painting done the weekend before so we were to put up with it or be refunded & not move less than a week before our old tenancy was ending! since moving in we have had to ask for some repairs to be carried out for example live wires under the kitchen sink, heaters not working & a faulty electric shower box which I quote the electrical we were about a week away from a fire or someone getting hurt, 2 weeks ago the washing machine broke & I have been chasing since then after having somebody out to confirm it wasn’t a blockage or anything we had done the drum has broken this has still not been fixed or much contact as to when I can expect not to be without a washing machine with 2 working adults & a 2 year old child in the property & all while this isn’t done we have been served notice to leave the property after asking for an update on the washing machine I think it’s disgusting from someone who works in this industry to treat their tenants this way so I recommend not renting from their employees maybe their landlords might hopefully care about their tenants safety not just making money. I would add we have always paid our rent & the property is in a cleaner condition than we were given this

I'm a landlord of a flat managed by WHB. They recommended me moving up company as a tenant. It turned out that this is a caring company for housing antisocial behaviour people. The person living in my flat has torn it apart and damaged my neighbours flat too. This person breached the contract by smoking in my flat and also by their antisocial behaviour. WHB said, I have to hire a solicitor to evacuate him and we are not responsible! AVOID BY ANY MEANS! They are useless

I rented a house through wh brown and have to say worst unproffesional people out i would advise anyone to avoid. Since xmas they took three months to mend a broken fence panel and had a call two weeks after i had left to say they would come and mend the broken shower i had reported in dec the previous year and reminded them about ever since till i left at end of april. The are now telling me i owe unpaid rent which is ironic when i paid 6 months upfront and left on the end of contract date. They are claimimg things are dusty and the lawn long when they have took two and a bit weeks to inspect the property since i left. And trying to claim unimaginable things. They just sum upto con artists and need to be avoided. As far as i am concerned they should be struck off from renting so others dont have to go through the stress they have unessasarily caused and maybe a court case to come. BE WARNED NOT TO USE

TrustpilotWilliam H Brown - Holmfirth
Viewed a house through WH Brown in Holmfirth. Agent who met us at the property was totally unprofessional, belittled our sale and was overall very unpleasant. She then proceeded to state how many houses her daughter owned and that she was about to complete on a property that was twice the value of the one we were viewing.I was honestly embarrassed for the seller who was present the whole time. After the viewing my partner was called 3 times a day for 3 weeks on feedback. I would be hesistant in working with them again

TrustpilotWe used W H Brown to rent a property…
We used W H Brown to rent a property from for a year, after 8 months we bought our own and decided to stay where we were renting and do some renovation work on our own house. We then got an email from Sequence(head office?) as the tenancy was a couple of months from the end asking if we intended to extend it. We explained that we had bought a house etc and we would go on a month by month agreement until the work was done on our house.Less than a week later they issued us with a section 21 notice, ie they effectively evicted us because we wouldn't sign up for a year. Because of this we've had to pay our builder to do extra work and a decorator as there was no way we could've got the work done just on weekends which is what we intended.I'll never ever trust this company again, nor will I ever recommend them to anyone.

They had our property on sale for two weeks, before we took them on as estate agents, they gave us a " market review" which states in black and white that they had over 100 interested buyers in properties exactly like yours.1.They charge " extra" for floor plans, and other reports, and "professional photos "2.They do not get back to you, or if your lucky they email you back 24 hours later.3.They are closed Sundays 4.At 10am on a Monday morning, they havent even booted up their computer .....5.Terrible photographs of the house..6.Our home is 2.5 years old, looks like a show house and art gallery, and not one buyer through the door in the first two weeks!7.One "potential " buyer that probably never even existed, never turned up on the day, and we didnt even get a call to say they were not coming !8.DREADFUL , DREADFUL ,DREADFUL !

TrustpilotWorst disorganised Letting Agents
This is the worst Letting agent I have come across. Each tenancy is dealt with by multiple people at multiple remote and local sites and one doesn't know what the other is doing. Difficult to pin down who is responsible for what as they don't take any responsibility. Every tenancy is on arrears from first month. Local agent doesn't know anything about the rent collection or arrears and they don't deal with it. It is dealt with somebody in a remote site who will not respond to your emails or calls and will send only letters to you that there are arrears. These people have no contact with the tenant and can not account even the rents paid properly. Tenants have complained that they were unable to get any response from the agents when they wanted to contract them to pay rents. Avoid at any costs

I've never been made to feel like such a second class citizen than trying to rent through these people. My husband and I sold our house had nothing lined up thought we'd rent for a while we both are full time employer earn good money. William h Brown wanted to know the ins and outs of a ducks bottom even access to my husband's HMRC account we would have happily paid 6mths upfront. Their communication I poor unless they want monies for over inflated searches and admin or trying to sell you sky and broadband. Never never again avoid!!!!!

William H brown is the least professional organisation I have ever dealt with. Problems are listed: -High admin fees even with mistakes on invoices and tenancy agreement -Lied about emails they sent me in the past -Promises never delivered including promised call backs numerous times and to arrange viewings-Failed to give viewings. I travelled 7 hours from Devon for a viewing they said they would deliver. They didn't. -Viewings for next tenants turned up unannounced. Avoid this agency.

We brought through William H Brown about 2 months ago and I have never met such pushy and nasty people. Right from putting an offer in they suddenly became turbo charge in getting their hands on their commission. I was getting 4-5 emails every day demanding that I get in to the mortgage broker, shortly followed by threats that the seller would be pulling out as we hadn't exchanged and they were keen to remind us how privileged we were that they were they ones saving us from loosing everything! Sequence, who I believe to be the parent Company, should be ashamed but I suspect the opposite is true .I have bought from them, sold through them and have rented-out through them and In all good conscience I advise you to avoid this agency at all costs as they are truly unfit for purpose.

TrustpilotA truly awful experience from the St Albans branch
Having invited William H Brown to value our humble 2 bedroom flat in St Albans in mid 2017 I was incredibly impressed with Elliot's sales pitch (which was excellent) and for this he should be commended, however MY mistake was believing it. Individually, everyone at the branch is pleasant enough but collectively it is a circus, and the joke it seems is on us. As soon as we signed on the dotted line the lack of communication was breathtaking, and without listing and boring the reader with the numerous examples - it was nothing short of calamitous. I complained at a very early stage to Phil, the branch manager, (who again was pleasant enough) about the lack of, or simply no communication from the staff who were dealing with our sale. It was negligent at best and almost comedic at worst, but of course we weren't laughing. From the outset getting a member of staff to 'actually' call you back with feedback from viewings or the simplest question was a task in itself.Eventually we got an offer, we feel in spite of the agents, not because of them, which we chose to accept. Again we don't feel we were given the full facts of the offer which eventually fell through. It should be noted we don't feel our chain collapsing was the agents fault in any way - but we didn't realise we WERE in a chain! it was sold to us a "cash buyer with no mortgage!" Only when the house of cards began to crash down were we told their home was in a chain, a full 7 weeks after we had accepted.Again, when the ill fated sale was 'progressing' getting any sort of response from them was incredibly difficult and frustrating beyond belief, we were doing ALL the chasing and from an early stage my wife and I felt 'something' wasn't right. we were proved correct. In summary, this is not in any way sour grapes, I complained to Phil about his staff and lack of customer contact skills long before we ever had an offer, and the miserable level of service simply continued up to and including the moment our sale fell through. We of course are licking our wounds and counting the financial ramifications of poor advice and miscommunication. Our perception is that this company have properties on their portfolio that far exceed the value of ours, and they simply couldn't be bothered to treat us, or our sale, with the attention to detail it, or we deserved and therefore we all lost out! I can not recommend William H Brown in any way and would strongly advise you think very carefully about marketing your property with this company, and would remind the staff of William H Brown that rightly or wrongly perception is all!To conclude and to be fair, I take responsibility for making the decision to enter in to the contract with these agents, and again make the point I was taken in by a slick sales pitch. I would remind the reader to do your homework before committing to an estate agent and not make the mistake I obviously made. Selling and buying a home is the most stressful of times and in my experience this company will only add to it.Thank you for reading, you have been warned.
