Really happy with the house and initial contact and communication with Peter Lane when booking to view the property and also offering on the property.I felt however during the middle to end of the purchase process when I was hoping to exchange/ complete - that instead of letting me know the bad news they felt it was easier to not contact me or update me and the silence/ uncertainty I found worse. And so I rarely got information or updates without having to myself to repeatedly call them. At first I was really in impressed that I had been assigned an individual point of contact to give me updates regarding the purchase. However - My point of contact that was selected to give me updates through the process, she didn’t work Fridays. Despite this, they kept aiming for a goal date to exchange and complete every Friday which meant weekly disappointment and weekly uncertainty if my house purchase was going through. And no communication whatsoever. And so I wouldn’t hear until the following week etc why it didn’t happens and then was told it might be this week Friday now.However when completion did finally go through, the key collection process and overall communication regarding the completion was amazing and was a breath of fresh air to go and collect the keys in the office and actually see and speak to a human and not just a phone call!

We all know about estate agents, don't we, but Peter Lane is something of an exception. Their fees seem quite reasonable, they communicate well, they chase up potential sales diligently, and, strangely, I almost began to trust them. Surely not.

Helpful and courteous

Peter Lane marketed the house we purchased. They kept in regular contact with us and tried to help with issues with our own house sale when our own estate agents were being as much use as a chocolate teapot. They were always kind, courteous, and understanding about the problems were were having with our buyer's solicitor.

Racial profiling Peterborough

I went to view a property at Sugar Way, Peterborough a while ago. When I met the agent there, I sensed discomfort in him, but I thought he may’ve just had a hard day. He rushed me through the viewing and then said he’d get back to me as four other people were yet to view it. I waited several days to hear back. When I didn’t hear anything, I called in to check if the property was still available, only for them to tell me it was gone. Something didn’t sit right with me, so I asked my girlfriend who’s white (only stating so in order to get my point across) to call and ask to view the same place. They told her an agent would get back to her later in the day. To my shock and surprise, the same agent got back within 30 minutes and clearly stated the property was available. She told them she’d book a viewing later. We left it. 3 days later, an agent called to ask if she was still interested in viewing this very property as it’s still “very much” available and ready to be occupied as soon as possible. I watched in horror as we both realised I’d been profiled. The agent knew nothing about my education or financial status. He just looked at me and assumed the worst. To be very certain, I called back that day to once again ask about the property and once more I was told it’s gone. Peter Lane need to do better. They need to vet their staff for prejudices and racist ideas. In a fair society, people are judged not on looks, colour or accent, but on merit. I have a high earning job and a business. I have both a bachelors and masters degree, but none of that mattered when that agent looked at me. He just saw an object of disdain. Very bad of Peter Land to employ such people. I know they will deny it & invalidate my experience if they see this, but I’m sure I’m not the only person of colour who’s experienced this from that same man at that branch.

Peter Lane did a good job of finding a buyer quite quickly for my house. Subsequently the buyer was unable to complete and Peter Lane then found a replacement buyer again quite quickly at an improved price which more than made up for lost rental earnings while the house was empty.I would recommend Peter Lane.

Better than most

We were really pleased with the service that we received from Peter Lane, all of the staff were kind and informative throughout a long and arduous process. While we were in a position to buy they were the only Estate Agent we liaised with that actively promoted relevant properties to us. All others rely on you to engage with them and seemingly find the properties on RightMove. Definitely something to consider if you're selling!
