GoogleWe were genuinely excited about a flat being let through Clifford’s. The property itself was lovely and ticked many boxes. Unfortunately, every interaction with the agency made us rethink entirely.
At the viewing, the representative arrived completely unprepared, no knowledge of the flat and disengaged. There was no enthusiasm, no knowledge of the property, and no care shown for us as prospective tenants. It left us feeling more like an inconvenience than valued customers.
Trying to follow up before/ afterwards was no better. Repeated phone calls were met with unhelpful responses that bordered on rude. It felt impossible to get clear answers or any sense of that they were keen to get the property let. No follow up, no suggesting or other properties. I’m not sure if they could have cared less.
A beautiful flat shouldn’t be overshadowed by poor service - yet here, sadly, it was. Completely surprised by their 5 star reviews.

Our Saturday viewing clerk has worked for Cliffords for many years and is an extremely valued member of staff, we have received (on many occasions) excellent feedback about this individual as a person, from many different people who have had the pleasure of meeting them, so we are very shocked to read such negative comments. If you felt this way you should have raised this with us following the viewing.
May we respond with the timeline of events since you contacted Cliffords:
You viewed the property on Saturday 29th November at 11.20am. You then emailed on Monday 1st December at 14.01pm to express your interest and ask questions about the property. We responded in full with accurate and clear responses at 8.47am on Tuesday 2nd December. You then requested to proceed with the next steps on Tuesday 2nd December at 18.09pm. On Wednesday 3rd December at 8.24am we sent you the application form to complete and return and to our surprise we never heard back from you.
The property received a lot of interest, we were contacted by another person who viewed the property prior to you, they returned the application form and so we proceeded with the let.
We are sorry that you missed out on this property and that you obviously feel frustrated with the situation!

You expressed an interest in letting the property, we gave you an application form to complete. This does not automatically grant you a tenancy.
The landlord declined your offer. This is and was the landlords decision.

GoogleBrilliant letting agents. I've had lots of experience renting in Brighton & Hove and Clifford have the best agents I've had. We rented a flat managed by them for 4 years and couldn't fault their service. The team were friendly, approachable and always there when we needed something - unintrusive and happy to let us get on with things when we didn't. When we reported repairs, from drains being unblocked to windows needing replacing, they always actioned the jobs the same day and work was usually carried out the next. We couldn't have hoped for better!

GoogleThe epitome of a dishonest letting agent. We took 3 early viewings of a property to rent and were told that the property was being let on a first come first serve basis. We made an early offer to pay the holding deposit, requested the draft contract and submitted a reasonable maintenance list (the property was being renovated but we did not make our offer conditional on any particular item). Surprisingly the agent did not send a draft contract or take a holding deposit but continued marketing the property and said the landlord wanted to weigh up the options. At this point the agent told us that the property was not being let on a first come first served basis. The selection criteria was not made clear to us. The agent strung us along for a week before accepting an offer from another party with no word of explanation. We suspect that we were being played off against another tenant to encourage a bidding war. It left a sour taste in the mouth. Time wasters.

I am very disappointed to read your review of Cliffords, which I feel is unjustified. Firstly I would like to clarify, we never offer our properties on a first come first serve basis. We have a small team here and all staff work with the same ethos and that is to be fair to any viewer, providing the opportunity for anyone to put an offer forward to a Landlord and for the Landlord to make the decision.
Upon receiving your list of requirements for the property this was sent to the owner for them to review your terms, at this time a let had not been agreed to you and no holding deposit had been taken, naturally the property remained on the market.
We showed you the property on 3 separate occasions to accommodate your requests and would not waste our own time let alone yours. You were informed on the 3rd viewing that other viewings were booked in. As you know another party expressed an interest. The Landlord assessed both applications and decided to proceed with the other viewer. There was no bidding war, we have never at any point asked you to pay a higher rent to get the property, and I find it rather distasteful to suggest this is how Cliffords have acted. We are sorry you missed out on this property, however your review is completely unfounded.

Having dealt with all the generic estate agents over the years Ben truly stands out as one of a kind. And they definitely lived up to the recommendation. We have been renting out our home through them for nearly 2 years. GoogleIf only all letting agents were like Clifford! I was a tenant with Clifford for 2 and a half years, and they’re one of the best around. They always provide a fast response to any questions, and if any maintenance issues arise they’ll get someone out quickly. Ben is fantastic - friendly, efficient and on the ball, and a hero for answering the phone on a Friday night when water was pouring through the ceiling from the flat above.
Their greatest asset is that they treat tenant and landlord with equal respect and hold both to equally high account. If you’re a tenant you can be sure you’ll be looked after and you’ll live in a decent property, and landlords know their properties will be well maintained and left in good order after tenancies.

GoogleNot informing a buyer whose offer was accepted a week beforehand, whose paperwork was going through and paid for, that the vendors already exchanged contracts with a previous existing buyer. Courtesy of that information would have been nice so as not to waste our time and our money thinking we were buying a house when in fact we were not. Not to mention being shocked and gutted getting the information by way of an email from the sellers on the day they exchanged contracts with a pre existing buyer. When everything was meant to be done 'through the agents!'

I will look at a property with any Agent that advertises it for sale. But I must say this particular experience makes me very wary of parting with money until I am sure I am being given the whole story about a previous buyer and lead up the path with exchanging contracts with that buyer whilst I am thinking the sale with me is going through and I have paid money out. I am a serious buyer. A week after our offer is accepted and all going through with solicitors and surveyors, the buyers very suddenly exchange contracts with a previous buyer, out of the blue! The Agents must have known exchange of contracts was going to happen as they get their commission. It is known days beforehand. It does not just happen. Courtesy to us would have been nice. We shall agree to disagree on this. I am honest and expect the same in return. Thank you Clifford's for taking the time to show me around the properties.

In response to your feedback, the previous buyer had not exchanged. We would not continue marketing a property that had already exchanged. The previous buyer had pulled out of the purchase the week before due to an issue with their mortgage. The vendor requested to contact you directly to explain their decision. I must say that I am surprised to read your message given the fact that you have since viewed another property with my company
