Passed referencing, then ghosted, a 'fully furnished' flat that kept losing furniture

My experience was quite different. I passed referencing for a gorgeous "fully furnished" flat with sea views in Birchington, and then came the silence. No replies to my emails, and getting anyone to pick up the phone was a saga of its own. When I finally got through, I was told the agent handling it was away on holiday. I'd asked whether the landlady would replace the missing bedframe. The agent was visibly reluctant, which, looking back, felt like someone who already knew the answer. And sure enough: no, she wouldn't. My second viewing was booked for the very day the holding deposit was due to expire, with the inventory meant to be done the day before. When I arrived: no inventory done, and now the mattress and the sofa had vanished too. No explanation. Despite there being no inventory and no tenancy agreement, I was pushed to pay the rental deposit, plus the move-in date was postponed. The holding deposit only came back after I asked for it. A day later, the same ad was live again, a "fully furnished" flat with sea views (the views, at least, are real) in Birchington. The bitter part: I'd turned down another flat I would have loved, for this one. So here I am, still without a place, still hopping to and fro between temporary roofs over my head.

Not for the vulnerable .

I was less than impressed with the sales team who promised me the earth until they had our signatures on the contract, then coerced into dropping the price of our property in less than two weeks. We also had to deal with a staff member who was often rude and abrasive who upset both me and my husband. We are both elderly and a bit vulnerable and would have benefited from kinder handling. Once we had a buyer our sale and new purchase was coordinated by Louise Daley who I cannot praise enough. She chased everything quickly, kept us fully informed and was always very friendly polite and professional. I would have rated it lower if not for her.

As a first time buyer

As a first time buyer, I cannot fault Miles & Barr one bit. From point of viewing, all the way through to exchange I have felt supported, listened to, understood and well taken care of! For context, I have had a very difficult sale, that’s been going on for over 14 weeks that has caused blood/sweat/tears and sleepless nights! I was assigned Debbie Thwaites to my case and I have to say without her - I wouldn’t have got through it! Not only did she provide professional guidance & advice, she was emotionally supportive which was above all, the most important part to me. She listened when I needed to rant, she bigged me up when I needed a boost, she laughed when I needed cheering up, and was a shoulder to cry on! Debbie needs true recognition for her dedication to the role. Alongside this, I also had James Cussen step into the case and I couldn’t fault him either, he was extremely helpful, offering some really helpful guidance where suitable, very communicative, supportive, understanding and overall great. Honestly, without these 2 people I would’ve given up months ago. In addition to this, whenever I rung the Ashford office, I always had friendly voices answer the phone, which really helped & made a difference!! Miles & Barr really do care. I stand by that and will definitely coming back if I need to sell in the future!

Brilliant experience from start to finish

I recently purchased a house which was being sold by Miles & Barr. From start to finish they were excellent - professional, warm, friendly, helpful. I would especially credit the wonderful Nadine, without whom I honestly don't think the entire thing would have gone through (at least not in the timeline we wanted!!). She was so kind, empathetic and patient throughout, giving my helpful advice and encouragement, and keeping everyone informed, pushing where needed to get things moving, and generally being wonderful. This isn't the experience I've had with a lot of other estate agents, and I cannot thank Nadine and the team enough. Great experience with Miles & Barr Birchington office re: the sale of our property. Matt in sales was fantastic. He gave us a thorough insight in selling with M & B when he came out to do our valuation, and explained the process fully. We had a viewing within a couple of days and an offer by the end of the week that we saw Matt. Amazing! All of the staff in the Birchington office were very approachable, friendly and helpful. I spoke to Jordan a few times and she was extremely helpful and polite, especially when I was stressed and ranting and she didn't let it phase her and was understanding and dealt with my query. Would also like to mention Ross Ellenor in the compliance team, who was also very helpful and understanding, especially when the process was quite overwhelming at the beginning. There was a lot going on because it was a big move for us as we were moving quite a distance away. Leo in compliance was also helpful. M & B also referred us to a solicitors, Whitehead Monckton, and they were fantastic.
