The house was a health hazard

We moved into a rental property managed by this estate agent last week, and it has been the worst experience we’ve ever had with an estate agent. Before moving in, it was agreed that the property would receive a deep clean and the carpets would be professionally cleaned. When we arrived, the house was absolutely filthy. The cleaning was so bad that we found a mouldy toilet paper roll left on the floor, and the kitchen was so unhygienic it was genuinely a health hazard. It was in such a poor state that we couldn’t even unpack our belongings. We had several family members helping us move, and the entire day was a complete waste because the property simply wasn’t fit to move into. After reporting the issue, they sent the cleaning company back three days later. They were only there for around 20 minutes and cleaned very little. The property was still disgusting afterwards, leaving us to spend two full days cleaning the house ourselves just to make it liveable. That is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, the carpet cleaning was never carried out. The carpets are stained with food and other marks and clearly need a professional clean. The estate agent has now refused to arrange this, telling us to sort it out ourselves or contact the landlord. The landlord has already confirmed he paid the estate agent for the cleaning, so this should never have become our responsibility. The photos speak for themselves. The lack of preparation, poor communication, and refusal to put things right have made this an incredibly disappointing experience. I would not recommend this estate agent to anyone.

Most of our contact is with Chloe who deals with rental property for us. We always get a very professional and personal service and are always kept fully updated with any viewings, during the initial process of checks and paperwork and it continues once the tenant is in the property. Any questions, queries or on the rare occasions issues are dealt with swiftly. We have been approached by other letting agents to switch to them instead, but wouldn't move with the attention to detail and service we get from Chloe and team at Gascoigne Halman in Glossop. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to rent a property out or to anyone wanting to move in to a rental property.

Out of several estate agents involved in the process they were by far the best! Karen Armstrong was excellent from day one. Her communication and commitment to seeing the process through was amazing. I’ve just bought a house and Gascoigne Halman was the estate agent dealing with our purchase. Our experience with them from start to finish has been excellent. Karen is an absolute legend. So personable and lovely! The communication was brilliant throughout the whole process. They always picked up the phone and returned calls, which is not my experience with all estate agents! They chased regularly but this never felt pushy, just that they wanted to keep the process moving, which we really appreciated and I’d imagine the seller must have too. To say you can’t really pick the estate you’re buying from, we really got lucky because they were fantastic and should we ever need to sell again (and it won’t be for a while because we love our new house!) it would be Gascoigne Halman without question.

What can I say, Chloe was an absolute gem. Whilst our home sold within the first week, the completion process was an absolute nightmare. If it wasn’t for Chloe, I suspect our sale still wouldn’t have completed and either the buyer or us would have walked away (we almost did several times) Chloe was managing both solicitors (neither of which I would recommend) and the buyer. She was certainly trying to herd cats. Thanks also to John and Karen. Couldn’t recommend Gascoigne Halman more highly. Terrible communication

I would try to steer clear of this company if possible. We have rented a property through this agency and it has been a nightmare. Communication is horrendous, you cannot get hold of anyone at all. We even went into the branch about our queries and still were told that no one was available and someone would contact us (which they didn’t). The property was not ready for us to move into on the agreed date and we were not told about this until we chased and chased about needing more info on moving in. Since moving in, we have had a few problems, none which have been resolved and again communication and trying to get hold of anyone is impossible! Good luck if you are renting through this agency. I would not use them again!
