We rented a beautiful home, through Honey Lettings, for the past year or so. We cannot thank David, Lucie, Louise & Lorraine enough, for everything they did for us. From helping us to secure a lovely property, to quickly arranging for any items to be fixed and maintained, to the highest standards. Friendly, efficient, trustworthy and polite, throughout all our dealings, they went above and beyond to ensure we were happy in our home. We can't thank the team enough and are truly very grateful you were our Letting Agency, over the last year. We would highly recommend Honey Lettings to any Landlords & Tenants. Many thanks David & team, all the very best ahead. Kind Regards, Warwick, Beata, Liam & Oliver.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. You have been great tenants to work with and we would be delighted to welcome you back to another one of our properties in the future.

After viewing a property I agreed a price with the agent / Landlord, went through the vetting process only to be informed over 9 days later that the Landlord had accepted a better offer from another viewer. After signing the tenancy agreement, I turned down other viewings but was told because they don't take a holding deposit I was effectively left high & dry. Totally unacceptable & unprofessional = I DO NOT RECOMMEND Further to your reply = you refer to my previous comments not being accurate, when in fact you are not & have never been honest in all my dealings with you ! When I first contacted you & viewed the property there was back & forth negotiations with the landlord, we came to an agreement & at that point I asked if you needed a deposit to secure the property & you said NO which I was surprised at because ALL other letting agencies I've spoken to insist that a holding deposit is taken when an offer has been accepted by the landlord = I've since found out not taking a deposit is a sneaky practice to allow other viewings & other offers for the landlord to consider. When you sent me the link to goodlord to setup my account, the delay in me responding, as explained, was not due to any lack of commitment on my part but due to the goodlord system not allowing me to begin the registration. You completely forgot to mention that, as explained, I'd been reply to the emails I received without knowing I was responding to a no-reply email alias. When I realised this I contacted you & immediately & as per your insistence I committed to the previously agreed move in date on the 19th November. As you know I spent 3x days trying to sort the goodlord systems issues out, despite me raising this issue you left it up to me to contact the goodlord help centre to resolve, even they were surprised that I was contacting them & not you ! the issues were sorted out within hours of me logging a call with them & I completed all the documentation, supplied references & pay slips within hours of this being resolved, even my HR Director received an email asking for confirmation of my employment, so to say that I hadn't done all I could to progress this is a complete fabrication of the truth. To lay the blame on a potential tenant siting that due to lack of completing documentation that the landlord has withdrawn the offer is nothing other than shady dealing, the fact that no deposit was taken, despite being offered, should have been a RED flag that you were going to get the highest rental irrespective that you have made a verbal contract with me. As stated before = you are completely untrustworthy & underhand & would strongly advise anyone else to deal with you = this seems to be a pattern of this behaviour looking at other similar experiences & reviews. I suggest you move away from trying to be clever & put both the landlord & the tenant 1st rather than passing the blame!

Mark, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review but I am disappointed that you have not been completely accurate with your description of the events following your viewing. You had made an initial offer significantly below the asking price, then made a further offer which was still below the asking price. The landlord verbally agreed your offer subject to satisfactory referencing and confirmation of your move in date. Unfortunately, as you had not engaged with this process after 4 days we were instructed by the landlord to conduct further viewings. Further viewings resulted in offers for the full asking price. The landlord therefore took the decision to proceed with another applicant who submitted their documentation promptly. Furthermore, you had not signed a tenancy agreement for this property as your application had not reached that stage as references had not been concluded. I am sorry that you feel we acted unprofessionally but as agents for the landlord, it is important that we are factually transparent to ensure they are able to make decisions upon the information we provide to them.

A frustrating and disappointing experience. Forced our 75year old parents to drive during lockdown from Devon to view a house despite permission granted by our parents to view and represent on their behalf. Whilst the rest of the world is adopting to be more flexible and considerate, Honey Lettings were found to be anything but. Parents forced to drive a 7hour round trip in one day, only to then be told that the property had been let to someone else. Avoid! Unprofessional and unhelpful from the start. Contact was a David H (the owner I believe of this agency).

I think this is a case of reporting your frustration rather than Honey Lettings being unprofessional. I gather that your parents property was sold but the purchase of the new property fell through. I gather that this occurred earlier in the week and that your parents were keen to find a place to rent whilst looking for an alternative home to buy. Your parents contacted Honey lettings regarding a property we had advertised and we discussed with them the details of renting the property. Your parents wished to make an offer and we said we would need them to see the property, in part to cover the laws on remote selling and in part to carry out the Right to Rent checks. We also like to meet applicants in person in order to provide feedback to the landlord. We explained to your Father that other tenants were also viewing the property. Your Father agreed to view the property on the Monday and we said we would present all offers received on the day to the landlord - which we did. When discussing the matter with your Farther on Friday we did not know we would get alternative offers on the Monday but I did state that this may be the case. We presented the facts and he made the decision to attend the viewing - we did not force your Father. We received three offers on the Monday and unfortunately the Landlord chose to go with another applicant.

Very much the same as previous reviews. They not what they are doing and it’s evil - scaring tenants with extremely outrageous repair bills to force them into handing over full deposits at the end. Extremely rude and quite disrespectful on visits making sure they remind you it’s NOT YOUR HOME. Never quick to resolve anything, but want you to respond instantly. It’s very clear they know the landlords and work together to screw the little guy over. Don’t take my word check out the reviews it speaks for itself. I would never use again and I warn others to avoid. Especially if you don’t want a rude Inconsiderate man storming around your house every 3 months.

Chris · 28 March 2024

Agent replied · 24 August 2024

As a tenant you have an obligation to look after the property you rent and abide by the rules of the tenancy. There is an expectation that you will look after the property and, at the end of the tenancy, return it in a clean and tidy state and without damage. In your case Chris, you left the property without any attempt at cleaning and with damage to the walls and carpets which were well beyond reasonable wear and tear. The landlord was extremely disappointed with the way it was left and, as a result of the damage caused by you and your pet dogs, he spent a considerable amount of money to put the property back into a state that could then be re-let. On behalf of the landlord we made a claim against your deposit and you accepted this. All of this money will go to the landlord without any benefit to Honey Lettings. If as a tenant you are reading this review and, like Chris, you believe that you don’t have a responsibility to look after a property you rent and that cleaning at the end of the tenancy is only an option, then please take Chris’s advice, don’t rent through Honey Lettings.

Charged me £110 to replace 3 light bulbs which I had supplied, so £30 each to plug in. Also charged me £300 to clean areas after I'd spent £170 on a Vax wet wash vacuum and several hours cleaning. Also complained about a dent inside a wardrobe. Dave. Really non-plussed. You give my full name. I am taking this further, thank you for your time. Now you have refunded some of my money, I am going to have non-defamatory fun.

Paul · 28 March 2024

Agent replied · 24 August 2024

Paul Leach threatened to give a poor review, along with other threats, prior to leaving the property and so this review comes as no surprise. A deduction, supported by the independent checkout inventory, was requested from the tenants deposit. The deduction included the cost of replacing 3 under counter bulbs, the kitchen extractor bulb and two bedroom bulbs spotlight bulbs. There was damage to the inside of a wood laminate wardrobe door and a door bell, which was installed without consent. All of the bulbs, three different types, were supplied by the contractor and not Paul. If Paul feels that changing bulbs is so easy why did he not simply do this prior to checking out?. The tenant continued to smoke within the property when specifically requested to stop, breaking the rules of the tenancy, and then complained about the property requiring a professional clean when his own clean with the vacuum he purchased did not come up to standard. Honey Lettings recovered the full costs of the clean and works required from the deposit. We are agents for the Landlord and work hard to make sure tenants, like Paul leach, are held to accounts during and at the end of their tenancy.

In my experience and opinion; I think it's an old school letting agents, not in the sense that's it's got old fashioned morals or values. No, just in the way that they'll not lift a finger to do anything and try to steal your deposit at the end of the tenancy. I find it surprising that these places still exist but there you are. I can't recommend, other than recommend that everyone, both landlords and tenants, avoid.

Alex · 28 March 2024

Agent replied · 24 August 2024

Thank you for your review Alex. Once again this is an issue about the end of tenancy and deposit deductions requested by the landlord. As an agent, we pass the deposit deduction requests made by the landlord to you. We did try and discuss with you the request for cleaning, supported by the checkout report, and your frustration appears to relate to these requests. As with all agents, we are bound by strict rules on the management of deposits and a clear system of independent adjudication is available to all tenants if they feel a deposit deduction is unreasonable.

I would definitely recommend Honey Lettings. We moved abroad and they looked after our house like it was their own. We didn’t have to worry about a thing. Communication is key and they were amazing at it. We really appreciate Lorraine and the team looking after our house for the past 6.5 years. Thank you all.

Rented with this company a few years ago. David the owner was rude and intimidating when doing inspections. He basically told me my house was dirty (it was not) I made sure my roommate dealt with him in the future as he made me feel uncomfortable. I can see while reading his response to these reviews he still has the same intimidating tactics. I don't think I've ever seen a company attacking reviews like this and giving out personal information about there situations while dealing with honey lettings. I'm not one to write reviews especially negative, but I would hate for someone else to be stuck in a tenancy with them. If you are a tenant AVOID.

Hayley · 29 March 2023

Agent replied · 28 May 2023

We are disappointed to read your negative review. We carry out inspection on managed properties on behalf of the landlord and where necessary we advice tenants on issues. I am sorry if you found David rude or intimidating but we often get a negative response when issues are raised which may be critical of the tenants hygiene. Having looked back at photos from 2019, when you shared a tenancy with two others, it does appear that cleaning was an issue. We do believe we have the right to reply to unfounded negative reviews.

I had been a tenant through Honey lettings for just over 3 years until I moved on. Reasons for leaving was to save for my own place, however these guys are brilliant. Very professional throughout the moving in and checkout. Fantastic staff with the care to customer shown at all times. I would have no hesitation to recommend Honey Lettings to anyone in the future. A Class service and I thank you for all your support. Wish the company the best in the future.

Welcome to Honey Lettings we do marathons not sprints. During my time as a tenant was fine no problems however business isn’t concluded just because I don’t live at the property you represent any longer & therefore I’ve marked the not professional tag into this as well as my frustration clearly .... I did an early end of tenancy release & that was over 2 months ago now and still haven’t received part of my rent back, I’m having to chase them down about it, it’s been 5 occasions now speaking on the matter and I was promised the money in my account 1st of March & still nothing. As a tenant you are subject to a fine if you miss you’re rental date but if you’re honey Lettings you can just take you’re time, I’m lucky that part of the money due back to me isn’t for a deposit on a new place otherwise this would be hindering things. During times like these is when you find out which companies are reliable. I could not think of something more simple than transferring money over and yet this is still ongoing. I’ve had to contact the landlord directly because of the unprofessionalism & slow pace of this agency, which if you’re a landlord is not what you want. I can only assume that the landlord has returned the funds to the agency because I was promised payment on 1st of March so that being said the only question I have 6 times & counting is ..... where is it ? It’s become a snail pace marathon.

Hi, we are incredibly disappointed to read your recent review. When you first approached Honey Lettings to request an early release from your tenancy due to a change of circumstances, we worked hard to negotiate with your landlord to make this happen. Furthermore, we found someone able to take a new tenancy at the property, without the need for you to compensate the landlord financially (something which is lawful and common practice). At the time your last rent payment was made, we had not finalised the new tenancy so we were unable to confirm any adjustment to your rent. To meet compliance, all client money is handled in accordance with strict guidelines, and as such we were not in a position to pay funds to you until such time as client funds were available. This had been explained to you on several occasions. We had also confirmed that we were due to receive funds on 1st April (not March as stated in your review), but this did not arrive in our account until after close of business, and they were therefore processed and paid to you on 2nd April. At the time of posting your review the payment had left our bank account. Your review states that ‘as a tenant you are subject to a fine if you miss you’re rental date’, is completely untrue. Our opinion is that Honey Lettings worked hard to enable you to be released from your tenancy, and the financial obligations relating to it, without the need for you to compensate to the landlord. The circumstances relating to the release from your tenancy, did not enable Honey Lettings to refund an overpayment of rent any sooner. Your Google review and 1 star rating does not reflect the service we have provided to you at the start, during and after your tenancy, and has been used by you to vent your dissatisfaction of the circumstances, rather than poor service from us.

Reference the recent reply from honey…

Reference the recent reply from honey lettings on here with regard to a previous referencing request, unfortunately the current tenant of said property is someone we went to school with, who are also incredibly dissatisfied with the service honey lettings have provided. And the reply is inaccurate. We chose to disclose our savings as proof we could afford the rent… only for honey lettings to suggest we pay an entire year up front to avoid losing the property. We now live in the apartment opposite and use Waterford’s who we could not be more thrilled with. Totally unprofessional response from HL as I’m sure anyone reading it will realise. If you’re upset about the review… quit blaming prospective tenants for the way you handle yourselves and do better. Everyone is suffering the pandemic.

Their regular inspections of the property really helped to highlight issues or concerns with the property to the landlord which gave us peace of mind that the property and us were being looked after. We have been using Honey Lettings to let and manage our property since 2014. They found us great tenants at the beginning who rented our house until we came back to live in Fleet last month (Sept 2022)! Throughout this time, Honey Lettings were exemplary in keeping us in touch about any issues that needed dealing with and were easy to contact by both our tenants and ourselves. Their quarterly check was always prompt and informative. We always enjoyed an excellent relationship with all the people at Honey and would hesitate to recommend them for all letting and renting requirements.
