Why else would you use anyone else to sell your house? From the get go, Sally was amazing. I’ve previously bought a house from her so it was a no brainer to sell one too. She was always accessible and helped chased solicitors when needed, immediately. She is so knowledgeable and was a key factor in our sale going through as quickly as it could. When buying a new house, we met with a lot of other estate agents and never found any to be as professional or to have integrity like Sally and West of Exe. The added bonus is that as a small agent, they know the local market so well and deliver everything with genuine expertise. Could not fault! Thanks West of Exe!

I rented a property via West/East of Exe for two years. It was a perfectly good experience. They were always friendly and responsive, and I had a good experience for viewing and securing the property, moving in, dealing with maintenance requests (of which there were only a few), and then the end of tenancy and move out process. It is worth noting that as West of Exe are an agent, to some degree the tenant experience also depends on how helpful and responsive the landlord is. In my case the landlord was quick to respond to the agency, and was very fair and reasonable, agreeing to the few maintenance requests I made. Repairs were arranged quickly. I also had no problem at the end of the tenancy - I returned the property in the condition I received it and my deposit was returned without question or hassle - again, this is also likely to be dependant on having a reasonable landlord behind the agency. Overall I had a good and smooth experience as a tenant.

We have used West of Exe for both buying a house and renting houses. This is my honest assessment of both. For buying I would give 5 stars, Sally was excellent, showing us around properties and chasing everything up and moving the sale along, we completed very quickly and Sally had no small part to play in this. Thank you Sally. A true asset to West of Exe. Prior to buying our house we rented various properties through West/East of Exe in Exminster and a property in Topsham. I would give the renting process 2 stars at best. I’ll start with the good. The moving in process was efficient with the various checks being completed quickly. On the whole, any complaints raised during the tenancy term were dealt with quickly. We had an oven fixed in our first property very promptly and roof tiles replaced and a new dishwasher fitted in our final property very quickly after raising issues. However, when reporting mould on the ceiling in our first property we were not taken seriously and told to clean it with neat bleach. What I do not rate at all is the end of tenancy process. I have found West of Exe to be inflexible and their requests to be excessive, unnecessary and outside of the terms of the tenancy agreement. Essentially you should be required to return the property to the same state it was let to you in. However, getting your rental deposit back is a difficult and labour intensive process. In our first rental home we were asked to entirely repaint one of the bedrooms (even though they had no idea what the colour on the walls was actually called) before agreeing to return our deposit. If they spot a cobweb you will be asked to go back and remove it. Our last rental home was the worst experience I’ve ever had trying to get our deposit back. It was a high end property with an expensive monthly rent and a large deposit. I have spent countless hours arguing with West of Exe over their excessive requests that I felt were not our responsibility. We were told we had to pay for professional exterior window cleaning despite there being nothing in the contract saying we had to pay for or were even responsible for exterior windows. We went back to rectify cleaning issues on the check out report twice. Finally we were told the landlord was happy with the interior cleaning and then the following week we were told this wasn’t actually the case and they were deducting money from our deposit for additional cleaning. This felt like a joke! They were already showing people around the property at this point, prospective tenants were wondering around with dogs whilst we were cleaning the floors! We were also told they were deducting money from our deposit for emptying the wheelie bins because they were full when we left, even though they were full when we moved in! Plus charges for removing rubbish left in the garage / garden that wasn’t even ours and was there when we arrived! East of Exe even agreed to put the bins out for us after we vacated the property and then didn’t and so tried to charge us! At one point they were trying to charge us for lightbulbs out of our deposit that were not working when we arrived! You can’t make this stuff up! I spent so much time arguing about these charges and they wouldn’t budge on most of them. I suspect because the Landlord decided after we vacated to actually spend some much needed money on the property and wanted us to shoulder some of that financial burden. In the end I took it to the tenancy deposit scheme who agreed with us on all issues other than gardening. We had to pay a contribution towards gardening from our deposit because the adjudicator deemed there was some weeding and hedges that needed attending to and that was our responsibility under the contract. Fair enough. I would recommend to anyone that they take additional photos on check in and on check out so they have their own evidence in addition to the check in / out report done by West of Exe and don’t be afraid to use the tenancy deposit scheme to dispute deductions from your deposit that you feel are unfair.

Friendly and helpful throughout

My whole experience and process was really easy and efficient. I called so many times to ask questions about my property and the info surrounding it; they always answered to the best of their ability, never getting frustrated with the amount of calls I made. One of the only estate agents that don't require you to view the property, this was important to me as I had been searching for a long time, and I was beginning to lose hope of finding a place to live. As I work full-time, I could not drop everything for a viewing so many other properties were gone before I had the chance. This was not the case with West of Exe. I have specifically dealt with Freya and Haley, Freya has been finalising my contract and dealing with my move. I have spoken to Haley much more she has helped with with so much, moving is such a stressful process so it was great to have someone who was understanding and friendly. Picking up the keys was easy too. Yet to have an inspection but I'm sure it will go as smoothly as the rest.

I asked for a viewing of a modest, 2 bedroom house for me and my son. Despite a full time salary, an excellent credit score and having savings worth 3 years' rent (!), I was told by the lady from the Exeter office that I wouldn't pass their credit referencing. When I mentioned that I am single parent, she automatically assumed that I am on benefits - which I am not and never have. Clearly I wasn't worth her time. I am absolutely appalled by the prejudice this company has shown towards me. I have dealt with several local estate agents and never have I been refused a viewing. The way they deal with potential tenants is a disgrace.

In June 2019, I needed to make contact for a second time regarding an issue relating to one of the properties that West of Exe manages and had the total misfortune of Millie Prestwich (so-called 'Lettings Coordinator') picking up the phone and attempting to deal with what it was that needed addressing in my call. I would have happily left a message for the member of staff whom I had called to speak to in the first place but Millie decided to insert herself into the matter only then to admit that she actually couldn't help at all, wasting both my time and her own. I found her to be so unbelievably rude and patronising regarding my concerns, Millie is the last person whom you'd wish to be your first point of contact as she seems to be for West of Exe. I say this, as this was not the first time I had called where she'd answered the phone. An absolute disgrace and an embarrassment, Millie Prestwich is most definitely not an asset to your team and her bad attitude could really impact on this estate agents reputation if this is how she, as the first point of contact, behaves towards clients/general members of the public. As a conclusion of this feedback, please - either give this woman her P45, or train her properly (and real quick!) with how to engage with those needing to deal with West of Exe.

We are very happy with the house we found through East of Exe. They have been professional and cordial and although we’ve had a couple of hiccups in meeting the landlady it’s all gone smoothly. Only reason it is a 4 and not a 5 star review is because on the day of the viewing the agent forgot the keys so we decided to go with the property from what we had seen from the outside.
