We had our house on the market with Burchell Edwards, Ilkeston, and things initially went quite well, securing a sale at asking price. This unfortunately fell through on the day we were supposed to exchange contracts and we had to start the process again. We resold quite quickly but our new buyer dropped the price by £7000 after a survey. The branch told us that this was due to the risk of damp and we asked what they ment as we had damp proofing done recently, that came with 25-year guarantees. Then the branch told us they thought we didn’t have any damp proofing done, and specifically that they had told the buyer the opposite without clarifying with us first. Ultimately the buyer would not take that the branch had told them false information into account and we had to take a loss on the house, as we already had our dream property lined up. Then there were various issues once we handed over to the progressions team. I won’t detail them all as it would take me a long time. Due to the service as a whole we made a complaint through the complaints team. The response was quite frankly inadequate. They found ‘no evidence’ that the branch had made the error by telling the buyer we had no damp proofing done, along with other issues raised to them. They essentially said, since the staff member didn’t write the error down it couldn’t have happened. I really felt like they were dismissive of our complaints. I would not recommend them to anyone and I would not use them again. I would however recommend Green and May in Alfreton, they were who sold us our new home, I couldn’t be happier with the service we received from them. They were exceptional!

Jack and Amber at Burchells went above and beyond their role to ensure we had a smooth and stress free renewal of tenant at our rental property in Ilkeston. They continually updated us at all times and were extremely understanding and sympathetic of our requirements, down to fine details. Something as simple as leaving a specific light on after viewings, as we'd requested. We would not hesitate to recommend them , the follow up care is equally as attentive, they are always available to assist in any issues. They certainly don't take your business and run. My little family had the worst news at the beginning of July this year! After being with our old landlord for 20 years, we got told we had 4 months to find a new home! As you could imagine this got very stressful.. Until.. my partner found a new home on Burchell Edwards, he rung immediately and the next day the wonderful Ella phoned us and asked if we would like to see the new home!? Of course we said yes, Ella was wonderful, very kind, very polite and made us feel at ease straight away and reassured us that we going to be alright, and they are going to help us and thats what they did!, then the stress of paper work and payments came along... and we met Amber, what an angel she was! She made sure we got all the forms done correctly both Ella and Amber even stayed on the phone an made sure we done everything correctly an reassured again that we are going to be alright. Then came the day to get the keys, and there was a slight mistake.. but Amber wasn't having it.. she got straight on the phone and sorted the problem out there an then and we got our keys!! We are now in our new beautiful home and we couldnt be more happier! Myself and the family, just wanted to thank both Ella and Amber for all their hard work, their understanding and their help, they were absolutely wonderful! Thank you both so so much! My experience with Burchell Edwards'… Appalling and unprofessional

My experience with Burchell Edwards' fully managed service has been nothing short of appalling. What should have been a straightforward property management service became a constant cycle of mistakes, poor communication and repeated incompetence that consumed countless hours of my time. During their management of my property, Jennifer Owen was repeatedly required to step in and correct errors made by other members of staff. Rather than proactively managing my property, I found myself constantly chasing updates, correcting mistakes and dealing with issues that should never have arisen from a professional letting agent. The volume of service failures ultimately forced me to submit a formal complaint, making it clear that I had completely lost confidence in Burchell Edwards' ability to manage my property. Even then, the complaints process was equally disappointing. Responses from Connells Customer Services demonstrated a failure to properly read or understand the issues I had raised, forcing me to repeat myself time and time again. Throughout my experience I encountered: - Persistent communication failures. - Repeated administrative errors and a clear lack of attention to detail. - Failure to act on information already held on file. - Costly mistakes caused by poor internal processes. - Broken promises and repeated apologies with little meaningful improvement. - Inconsistent and misleading communication. - Failure to uphold contractual obligations, including Section 12 of the management agreement. - A complaints process that appeared more focused on defending failures than resolving them. Most concerning of all, Burchell Edwards are currently retaining more than £3,000 belonging to my tenant, which has still not been returned despite requests. Holding a tenant's money without resolving the matter promptly is, in my view, completely unacceptable and only reinforces my concerns about how client funds and responsibilities are handled. After this experience, I have no confidence in Burchell Edwards' ability to provide a competent or professional property management service. There are many letting agents who value communication, accountability and their clients' interests. Unfortunately, based on my experience, Burchell Edwards are not one of them, and I would strongly advise landlords to think very carefully before trusting them with their property.
