This firm has been sat on my partners and families inheritance for nearly a month. The house sale was completed weeks ago. I’ve heard this company uses clients money to do short term investments and it appears this is true so they can make the most interest possible with their clients money and keep it before issuing what the family is due. All correspondence is sent second class by them. There is absolutely no interest in them getting the matter completed in a timely fashion for their customer.

We have just finished using Walker and Sharpe for the sale of our house . Josh was so efficient and helpful. Always got back with information, and very often after working hours. Never had to chase up ! When he went off on annual leave Neil and Fiona were also supportive and reassuring at difficult points in the process. Would definitely recommend them for the conveyance work of a house sale . Shona and John Scott

I recently instructed Neil Webster of Walker and Sharpe to sollicit the purchase of my property. I have used several sollicitors for varying reasons in the past and have been disappointed by some. This was not the case with Neil. In fact he has certainly the been the most direct and helpful sollicitor I have worked with. In part, through communicating any and all necessary information quickly and in clear language for me to understand the process and what to expect and do at each stage. Neil has been extremely on the ball at every stage of the purchase and has made communication with sellers agents before I have even had to ask when issues have arisen. Neil has been knowledgeable throughout and managed several issues well with suggestions of options to help speed up the process when things were lagging on the sellers side. Neil has been friendly and approachable to work with and has followed up even after conclusion of the sale. All in all, I have been extremely satisfied with his reliable service and would absolutely use him before any other in future if required. Thank you.

UPDATE: In response to the feedback from WS, we will have to agree to disagree on some things. For example, you didn’t give me a reason why the case was dropped. You just dropped it after I complained about the communication issues. Secondly there were a small number of emails from yourselves, but as I said it was the questions that never got answered that concerned me. This isn’t just my opinion, I have since gone over all this with someone who works in this field and although they can’t represent me in Scotland,, they agreed that I have not received the support that one would expect. The fact that you mention in your response that the motion to adjourn went unopposed by me, highlights the fact that I didn’t even know I could oppose it or if there would have been any benefit to that. How can you say the person who was there on the day in court would have given me the best possible support if I wasn’t even advised about that? There is no way on earth that I would have been able to put my best defence forward at trial with someone I just met and who really didn’t know much about my case at all. So I’m not going to get into this any further on here. This isn’t the place, but in response to your comment about being given sufficient time to find someone else, the trial is next month and I have been turned down by anyone I’ve asked. I will therefore be representing myself and like I stated previously I will be taking this further in due course. Not happy at all. I have recently used Walker and Sharpe for a case in Dumfries. I am very unhappy with the service received for a number of reasons. The communication (or lack of) right from the start was poor. No answers to messages left at the office. Promises of being called back that never happened. Questions in emails not answered. For me, I’m dealing with a really important and potentially life changing trial, but feeling like I had not been able to build up my strongest defence. When I mentioned this I was told not to worry as the solicitor has a lot of experience. That may well be the case, but I felt totally unprepared and suffered badly with anxiety, because I knew the case was winnable, but didn’t feel I had been listened to at all. To make matters worse, I spoke to the solicitor 3 days before the trial and was assured that things would be okay on the day. As it turns out the solicitor didn’t turn up on the day as he was on annual leave. He didn’t mention that 3 days earlier. Apparently his colleague was going to take the case, but she was held up on another, so I ended up with someone from another firm who I didn’t know, and really didn’t know anything about my case or my defence. The moment I met him, he seemed more concerned with getting me to plead guilty, despite the fact that the main policeman in the case has been struck off for gross misconduct and is potentially looking at a prison sentence. He really didn’t seem interested in listening to me and I felt sick to the stomach and helpless. Fortunately the issue with the policeman me at that the prosecution adjourned the case which meant that I didn’t have to stand trial with someone who I felt wasn’t up to speed on the case. Following this farce, I wrote to my solicitor and complained that I had several concerns about communication issues and the fact he did not show up at court. His response was to simply defend himself which ironically consisted of a long email that seemed way more detailed than any of the other communications I had received. He then told me he was withdrawing from the case and this has left me in a very difficult position with the fact that the trial will be coming up soon and I’ve already been turned down by legal aid solicitors who don’t have the time at the moment. I have been told by some people that the solicitor I have used is a good one, but unfortunately that’s not been my experience. Maybe he would have defended me well on the day, but not if he doesn’t show up! I will now be making a complaint to the Scottish Legal Board. Very unhappy about this.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We genuinely regret that your experience with our Firm did not meet the expectations set by us or other clients. We have communicated the reasons for our withdrawal from your case via email and have addressed the issues you've raised, aiming to provide clarity on the matter. We can see from our file that a number of detailed and lengthy email exchanges took place. We acknowledge the frustration caused by some unanswered phone calls, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. We do believe, however, that your case was fully and properly prepared for trial even though we needed to engage a local agent at short notice, a situation that ideally warranted more advance notice. We understand that the case was adjourned on a Crown motion which was unopposed by you. We believe that we have given you plenty of time from notifying you of our withdrawal to instruct a new agent to deal with your case, and to ensure your papers and legal aid can be transferred to them. It is unfortunate that we required to withdraw from the case, but from time to time, it is necessary for a Solicitor to do so. It is not appropriate that we publicly explain why that decision was made. We hope that you are able to instruct a fresh agent in this case and as explained in our email to you, we are happy to make that transition as smooth as possible and assist where we can. We are happy to provide you with details of local agents who may be able to help you. If you are unable to secure representation from a firm the PDSO will undoubtedly be able to help you. We wish you the very best with your case, and in the future. W&S

My husband and I recently bought our first home and used Walker and Sharpe for the legal side of things. Neil Webster was amazing throughout the entire process, explaining different parts and their purpose. He was very responsive to emails and kept us well informed of when steps were taken and why. He also helped us with our Wills. We found the administrative staff that we spoke to, to be extremely helpful and courteous as well. We would highly recommend them!

Walker & Sharpe recently acted on my behalf in relation to the purchase of a property in Dumfries & Golloway. At all times during the entire process, I found them to be friendly, helpful, thorough and reliable. I was really impressed by the quality of their services, and how easily I was able to get in touch with them when I needed to. Neil Webster looked after the conveyancing from start to finish, and it was a pleasure to work with him on the property purchase. His wealth of knowledge and experience ensured everything went smoothly and according to plan. I would be only too happy to recommend Neil and the rest of the team at Walker & Sharpe.

Its refreshing to meet an estate agent that actually takes the time to find out something about the property prior to showing it. Rachel White has been extremely helpful in viewings and her prompt and pertinent attention has not gone unnoticed. Thanks Rachel.

Tried to view a property over 2 days, however due to staff training on one day and the other excuse was they only had 2 members of staff available, so couldn't carry out the viewing. I feel sorry for the folk that have there home on the market with them, as they have potentially missed a sale (cash buyers). Poor show guys. They had no flexibility at all.

Louise · 5 November 2025

Agent replied · 9 November 2025

Hi Louise, We’re sorry to hear you felt disappointed with your experience. We always do our best to accommodate viewings as quickly as possible, but on this occasion we had limited staff availability due to pre-arranged training and short-notice absences. When you called, we tried to offer alternative times for the viewing, and even offered a same-day appointment if you could reach Dumfries before our training session started. Unfortunately, this wasn’t possible on your side, and we completely understand that timing can be difficult when you’re travelling. We do appreciate your feedback and will keep it in mind as we continue to balance property viewings with essential staff training and client commitments. Kind regards, Walker & Sharpe

Purchasing our house in Scotland was made easier than we could have imagined. Joshua was diligent, informative, knowledgeable and friendly. His professionalism and that of his colleagues releaved as much stress as is physically possible in an environment which is notoriously fraught with pressures. We cannot recommend Joshua and the team highly enough and we would be sure to use them again if we ever required legal representation again in the future. Thank you for your help to start our Scottish countryside dream life.

I have engaged the services of Walker and Sharpe for multiple cases, and in each instance, I had the pleasure of working with Miss Lauren Dalgleish, who proved to be exceptional. Having used Walker and Sharpe on a number of occasions, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others. Many years ago I was represented by David Finnie (now retired), to whom I will be eternally grateful as he all but saved my life by keeping me out of prison! More recently I have used Carolyn Priestly, who I wouldn’t hesitate to put my faith in if I ever had to go back into a courtroom! All team members that I have encountered (both solicitors and office staff) have always been friendly, non-judgemental, professional, thorough and responsive. It’s good to know that you can put your trust in the person fighting for you!

We used Walkers & Sharpe for the purchase of our house in Scotland. We had not purchased a house using the Scottish system before (being from England) and Joshua Ward walked us through all the legalities and made the whole experience painless. We received prompt and courteous service throughout and would not hesitate to recommend the firm and Joshua particularly for any conveyancing requirements you may have.
