Double standards, bad service and disrespectful treatment

I had a very bad experience as a tenant through CJ. I rented a flat through this office for more than 5 years. I had serious issues with both the flooring (tiles peeling off, looking ugly with a risk of harming our feet) and also with the parking ceiling constantly dripping some strange liquid. I kept reporting these issues to CJ but to receive nothing other than useless evaluation visits, unfulfilled promises to fix, and later a very cheap fix for only the tiles that made things look even worse.I would have tolerated all the above (as I’m generally a chilled person!), however, what made extremely unsatisfied with the treatment of these people is seeing their extremely unpractical process and disgusting double standards as I was checking out from the flat. As part of checking out, I was required to hire a professional cleaning company to clean the flat, which I did happily. Strangely, when I offered them to take a look at the flat before I leave, they said they cannot do that “because I’m still a tenant” so they can only check after I leave. A few days after I left, they came back to me with saying that they are not happy with some details of the cleaning including a list that chases some microscopic limescale here and there. What’s annoying was not only that their “high standards” suddenly showed up (after years of ignoring my serious maintenance issues), but also that they did not allow me to deal with the issues my self “as I’m no longer tenant”. So, facing bureaucracy in its most stupid form possible, I had no option other than going through dozens of emails between the cleaning company and the team of CJ to arrange a re-cleaning. You would think that would solve the issue, right?! No, because CJ don’t care about your time and haven’t even checked that the re-cleaning is done to their “standards”. Finally, I was left with no other option than paying CJ an extra to hire their own cleaning service to make sure that it’s done to their satisfaction.What is further annoying is that through the torturous communication with CJ team on the matter, I tried to reach out to some of their managers as the treatment seemed very unfair and illogical (I haven’t faced something like this throughout my 8 years stay in the UK), but all I received from the managers were robotic careless answers that we are extremely busy and we don’t have the time to pick a call. So, at the end, I felt that it was indeed disgusting how disrespectful people can be when they think they don’t have to treat you well. They show you extreme care when you are paying, but they’re not willing to speak for 5 minutes when you’re checking out.I would avoid dealing with these people as a tenant at any cost.

Awful lettings agency - AVOID

Carter Jonas took over my rental flat from Touchstone. They were impossible to get hold of and our letting agent NEVER answered her phone. We were paying for another one of their flats gas and electric for 2 YEARS and received no help whatsoever and resorted to contacting our MP. We gave notice to move out on the day rent was taken and was told that if I’d informed them 9 hours earlier it would have been a months notice, but as I informed them on the day the rent came out they made me pay for 2 more months. The fire alarm rang for 48 hours leaving the large fire windows open in the block and they refused to help as it was a weekend, during the winter! The 6 flats froze and was a huge health and safety issue! The communal bin shed was a hazard and despite going out and cleaning it myself by hand we were still sent threatening emails stating that we’d (the block of flats) all be charged for bulky waste disposal if it wasn’t cleared. I’ve now not lived there for 2 months but I’m being made to pay the gas and electric usage from between leaving and the new tenants moving in. We were not sent the cleaning report from when I moved in ready for our inspection until after it had been done so we were left to pay excessive cleaning fees despite the flat being freshly painted and beautifully maintained. They don’t care about you as people, they are only concerned about money, a very cold company. Overall an awful experience and would strongly advise any prospective tenants to avoid this company.

Avoid avoid avoid do not rent from this agency, they do not do repairs, they give you false promises to redecorate. Me and my two children lived in my opinion unreasonable conditions for two years and because I complained I was left fighting to get my deposit back, I can honestly say I would rather live on the streets before I would use this agency again. I owed my own properties before my personal circumstances forced me to look at rentals, I wouldn't even use them to rent my own property in the future. Stay clear!!

My overall experience with Carter Jonas has been great. Maddy in particular has been a huge help and with whom I’ve had the most correspondence. She is quick to respond to your queries and find a resolve to any issues. My relationship with Carter Jonas started in April 22 where they helped me to get the flat of my dreams at the time! The process was quick and simple and I cannot thank them enough. Sadly my tenancy has come to an end due to the landlord selling, however, Carter Jonas has been a huge help (AGAIN) in helping me with the move! I highly recommend this Agency. If you’re thinking about using them, do it!!

Terrible communication

Terrible communication. Do not action what there customer has agreed with them. Do what they want to do after telling them and agreeing next steps. Really late at returning your deposits and holding on to your money. Lack of communication and waiting days if not weeks for responses. Always say call back and don't. If you have an issue with your property the emergency out of hours phone line will not answer there phones. Don't compensate you for having to leave the property due to flooding and boiler blowing up and having to stay in hotel. You may want to seek another estate agent.

Glad I've switched away and I won't go back again

Having used Carter Jonas for a few years renting out my property, I've now changed and would never go back to them. I've had poor service consistently especially when a tenant checks out. The diligence and attention is woefully lacking. Keys lost, damage not logged, poor check out service. Tradesmen hired that do a poor job and charge silly money for doing little. Poor monitoring of tenants. Seldom been happy and glad I've switched.

Dangerously untrustworthy

Untrustworthy, lazy, never call back as promised and two weeks before our move into a rental property, having sold our house, our tenancy application was cancelled. We had agreed to pay a year up front, take the property as soon as it was available and met every demand such as the credit checks etc. But a worker in Carter Jonas decided not to try to make the deal go through for whatever undisclosed reasons she may have had. My advice would be if you want a roof over your head don’t go anywhere near Carter Jonas.
