Dear Mr. Kirk, We are genuinely disappointed to read your comments and feel it’s important to clarify a few key points. Oscar James act solely as the letting agent, not the property owner. This means that all maintenance requests and repair works must be referred to the landlord for their approval and instruction. We have a duty to report issues promptly, which we did throughout your tenancy, but ultimately, the decision and authority to carry out works rest entirely with the property owner. We are also surprised by the strength of your comments given that you chose to remain in the property for over three years. If the conditions were truly as uninhabitable as described, it raises a reasonable question as to why you continued your tenancy for such a lengthy period. With regard to the deposit, deductions were made only after an independent check-out report was completed and reviewed in accordance with the Tenancy Deposit Protection (TDP) scheme, which provides a fair and transparent process for both landlords and tenants. You were also advised of your right to dispute any deductions directly with the scheme’s adjudicator, who acts impartially. At Oscar James, we take all feedback seriously and strive to act professionally and promptly within the limits of our role as an intermediary between tenants and landlords. We regret that you feel otherwise, but we stand by our conduct in managing this tenancy in line with the regulations and responsibilities that apply to all parties involved.
