We recently sold our flat with Martin and Co and could not have been more impressed with the service. They were always one step ahead and informing us before we even had to ask where the sale was in the process. Jamie was particularly great in informing us where we were in the process and pushing everything through at speed to help us save on the stamp duty increase! Also helped us manage communication from the top of the chain that was a bit slow to make sure for a smooth sale process for us and also to ease the stress off. Would highly recommend for sale in Brighton and hove!

We have just moved to our new house which we purchased through Martin and Co Brighton. I cannot speak highly enough of how professional they were especially Jamie. He went above and beyond throughout the entire process keeping us informed every step of the way. He was even updating us with what was happening with the sale of our house which should have been thr job of our agents Cubitt and West. We hardly ever heard from them, considering we were paying them to sell our house. I just wish we'd have used Martin and Co to sell instead. Well done to Martin and Co Brighton and especially Jamie.

We worked with Martin & Co on a recent letting, Martin was excellent throughout the process. He really went above and beyond to ensure everything was set up properly so the letting could progress smoothly and tenants would move into a well-prepared home. His level of communication is outstanding, always responsive, clear, and proactive. Easily 10 out of 10. I would highly recommend Martin to others and would not hesitate to work with him again.

We contemplated going through legal means to obtain more costs, but instead of spending more money, we decided to give a review and let the courts of public opinion have their say. To begin, we found an apartment with this agency. At first, it was brilliant. Big, spacious, well located. It looked old and needed work, but what other old flat doesn't in the UK? My partner and I decided to go for it. And then, after we signed our agreement, paid our deposit/rent, the issues started to pop up. We moved in and the next day - scaffolding went up around our flat. Now, we understand that building works need to be carried out. but why we weren't informed prior to signing the tenancy agreement and submitting our financial part. It is very unprofessional of an agency not to disclose all information related to the flat when you have new tenants moving in. We spoke with this agency and they explained, "well, we just didn't know." How does an agency not know exactly what is going on with their inventory of flats? It is more than likely that monetary gain is more important than actually disclosing information to new tenants. This is the first failure of the agency. The following days - the power went off. To their credit, they sent an electrician out the same day. This person decided the flat needed a new EICR test, as the wiring in the flat could be considered dangerous/hazardous. They went ahead and scheduled a new EICR test the following week. In the meantime, we could not use 3 sockets in that flat, nor the heater in the living room. Then - the oven didn't work. Again, to their credit, the electrician came back out the next day and discerned that the oven is the faulty piece of equipment , but also found out that the stove top is not meant to plugged into the socket that it was due to safety regulations. It even stated, "do not fit into plug", on the actual cable! but was still done. He said, do not use all four burners, or it could most likely trip the electric board again or be potentially hazardous. so now, the oven has to go. Failure number 2 of the agency. The agency confirmed that they were trying to get a new oven, but nothing was set in stone for us. They didn't communicate well. however, to their credit again, they were able to get a new oven in the next week. but then, the EICR test day came. The electrician gave the flat a 90% unsatisfactory rate. He also checked the electrical resistance in each socket of the flat, checked all of the wiring, and basically went around to determine what needed to be fixed. As he was showing me what was wrong with the flat, many new things popped up, 1) there were some sockets on a such a dangerous level that they could have electrocuted us and/or caused a fire (in the most extreme case). 2) we could no longer use any heaters in the flat, as they weren't wired properly and potentially hazardous. 3) the cable running from the shower to the electrical board was deemed too small and if we ran the shower longer by accident, it could start a fire. Failure number 3! Considering all of this, at this point, the agency failed us a new tenants. They obviously did not do their jobs properly. They didn't make sure the flat was ready for new tenants or SAFE at all! The flat was dangerous. We were allowed to move in and we shouldn't have been. They subsequently agreed to "let" us move out, without any fight. They knew they were in the wrong and were just trying to save face. We were given our rent and deposit back but should have been given more due to financial costs we incurred due to their mistakes! If you come across this agency, please make sure you ask all of the right questions because they will take your money and let you move into an unsafe flat. Thanks for reading and I hope that the agency changes for the better to ensure safety regulations are met for each flat and their respective tenants.

It appears I’m not the only one that has had a terrible experience with this company! Avoid using them for student accommodation please! I entrusted them with my daughters Uni accommodation last year in Brighton. They refused to deal with health and safety issues so sadly my daughter felt she could no longer stay at Uni so she left in April. Just had an email claiming over 2k damage from the 3.5k deposit will be retained. So even though my daughter left early and was the one to report the behaviour that was causing the issues, she’s been equally apportioned in costs. Beware. You will be charged for not cleaning or weeding the garden, not dusting the skirting boards or sweeping the front step, the fire alarm overheating, any stains including mattress stains and basically anything and everything. Please take heed. Don’t use this company for Uni accommodation.

Lisa · 22 August 2024

Agent replied · 28 September 2023

Dear Lisa Fox, thank you for taking the time to review us. If the health and safety issues you mention are regarding the cleanliness of the property, these were addressed by the landlord employing a cleaner, at their expense, to attend as your daughter complained about some of the other housemate’s level of cleanliness. Regarding the deposit, it has been pointed out to you the tenancy agreement states that all tenants are joint and severally liable for any issues that are incurred during the tenancy. And yes, if the property is handed back where it hasn’t been cleaned, the garden not maintained and a damaged heat alarm in the kitchen, the landlord will seek to claim the costs to rectify this.

After having dealt with several agents across Brighton, Martin and Co have by far been the most communicative and helpful agents! Special thanks to Gina and Martin for helping to make, what is usually a very stressful process, so smooth and easy. I would recommend them to anyone!

Martin & Co now manage the letting of my flat in Queens Park, Brighton. Having used another well known local agent for 5 years, I contacted Martin at the Brighton office for help and advice. I was unhappy as the previous Agent was charging me a monthly 9% Management Fee and I was being charged additional extras like Landlords Insurance without being asked if I wanted it. They were also very difficult to communicate with as they have numerous offices around town and staff changing all the time. I do not hesitate to recommend Martin & Co. Martin is very knowledgeable, provides a very personable service and the Management Fee is very reasonable.

Martin and Co sold our flat in Hove for us. Our estate agent was Jamie, who was always professional, efficient and friendly. He communicated very well with us and updated us on a regular basis. Our buyer's solicitor was not particularly efficient and Jamie had to put a lot of input in to keep the sale on track and on a good time line. Overall, an excellent and efficient service.

Google surely not delete/block my amened review reply to Martin & co Brighton Letting agents Initial of they left the review as SB then when i posted themselves own revew also under SB how dodgy that when pointed out i notice review renamed to CSB in an hour or so and then again later in day changed to Local Brighton? why if genuine and nothing to hide ...it makes it appear iffy? S B 2 reviews a month ago Positive: Professionalism This team helped me move into a new place just before lockdown and Martin and Gina were very helpful during this process! Once all moved in, the after care was fantastic with Emma supporting us too. Would recommend this team to both landlords and tenants! 5* all the above after reply to their bad review with this as they come acroos as cold hearted and bullies Had misfortune of doing business with this letting agent team, at first seemed ok if bit pushy and demanding …sales/lettings for you… not nice people in the end and quick to only think of their business no consideration of who they are dealing with I quoted them for double student beds, they asked for the cheapest … and I explained do not do really cheap ones …and had quoted single prices in error (been closed for covid for a few months and was not in shop walking to van so quoted off the top of my head) I said I would honour price this one time as new business and I had quoted so my error. for ( no. close to 40) St James Avenue of £165 for each double bed base and mattress x 4 Few weeks went by and factory who makes the beds re-closed ..so informed them i may need to tweak order little, colour or size of one of the three beds from double to small double (all same price and quality) or I said can offer 1 bed of a little more quality, however as they were already under paying by £100's i said i would need to add 20-30 difference if we did need to change the one set if the factory not open in time. You need to bear in mind this supplier is 80% of my entire livelihood and the worry of 100's of staff there some I have know for 10 years could be at risk of serious illness and maybe worse…I was some what shocked at their reply ...they have said cant put and had removed and threaten legal action in summary said was a pain, not willingly to go to client and give them options i offered as that’s what we’ve promised client already & had written up in tenancy up. and so its bit disappointing! ☹️ No mention or concern for me or the staff factory …all just about them …so I sorry if my reply of Your disappointed …it is my livelihood and not in my control and tired to offer solutions is not good enough (for your cold heartless team not in reply but should of been)… So I do not care if you write bad review not even with courage putting company name or your and just SB and say you will never do business with me again, as I am more than happy not to have such self-centred people with no concern for anyone but themselves darken my door …. I only like to deal with human beings who care for all peoples situations and not just them or their profits at the expense of their customers or those doing business with health and risk during these stressful & risky times of covid 19.. And you got your beds and on time so I honour my business and service unlike Martin & Co Personally I Say > AVOID if this is how the treat the little people … And if want the truth about Furniture And Beds Read what good non selfish people have to say in my 50+ reviews

I’d give zero stars if possible. I am a student tenant and I will definitely not be using Martin&co next year. I feel that they exploit that I am vulnerable and new to life away from home. I am paying through the nose for something more resembling a small box than a flat. Nothing works properly and the Flat was not even cleaned before I got there (it was filthy). What’s worse is that I am not given my landlords contact details so when something goes wrong (like right now we are having a power cut) I can’t even contact them. Whenever I call or email Martin&co they never get back to me nor pick up the phone. They still haven’t come collected something left behind by the previous tenants and I’ve been living here for 3 months! Really appealing service and I’m only really writing on here to see if they will actually reply and help me!

The people in Martin & Co are very helpful and understanding when I was searching for student accommodation. They do their best and make every effort possible to satisfy their customers and resolve any issues that may come up. Despite the difficulties with money transactions that we faced as Greeks with capital controls they were very eager to help and provided us with a fast and effective solution. Jarod Palmer is such a great guy. Very professional, accommodating, hard working and always there to help, with kindness and a smile on his face as well as the rest of the team. I would strongly recommend Martin and Co for both letting and selling/buying property.

I am a recent tenant of a rental property that was let by Martin & Co. Martin the branch manager helped me through the process from start to finish. He went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly and had my best interests in mind. I had a lot less anxiety because of his involvement and now I'm happily housed in an awesome place that represents really good value for money. Happy to trust him throughout, can't say enough, estate agents with a human touch!!

Been living in Brighton for 8 years now, and have never seen such pathetic services from a letting agent. Zero communication throughout the process, from viewing till the last, they will make the whole process so stressful. Would never recommend them, and i guess that's why they are doing so bad as compared to other agencies. Wish i could give a 0 star.

I’ve rented with Martin & Co for two years and they’re genuinely the best lettings agents I’ve ever dealt with and I’ve had a fair share of awful ones! They’re easy to contact, helpful to communicate with and from start to finish the tenancy has been so easy. Over two years there was only one problem with the flat which was rectified immediately. The flat I was in was being sold, they always kept me informed and even for viewings they would always work around me as I work a lot of nightshifts which really meant a lot as a tenant and I didn’t have to worry! I’m gutted i’m not with them anymore but couldn’t recommend them highly enough as a tenant, thank you!

This is the most rudest estate agent ever! The guy who says he is the manager and owner of the place is the rudest guy you will ever talk two. If you are a landlord looking to rent a place for long term this is defiantly not the place for you. I don't see any tenant wanting to staying with this company for more then 6 months, because it's that shit dealing with the "owner"
