Exceptional Service from HS, A Seamless Business Sale Experience After 20 years of building my business, deciding to sell was a big decision. In September 2024, I responded to one of the many speculative emails that business owners receive when approaching retirement age. I met with one of HS’s directors online, who outlined the process in detail. After some negotiation, I was satisfied with their proposal and formally engaged their services. From that moment, HS were on it. Within a week, I was introduced to their team and assigned Katie as my primary liaison. Her professionalism, communication, and attention to detail were evident from the outset. Within two weeks, she had arranged three meetings with potential buyers, and by the fourth week, I had two competitive offers on the table. In less than a month, we had Heads of Terms (HoTs) signed. Katie went above and beyond at every stage, securing multiple quotes for legal services and negotiating a discounted fixed rate with a highly reputable firm. The legal process naturally involved a fair bit of back-and-forth, but thanks to Katie’s expertise and proactive approach, she managed all interactions seamlessly, liaising between solicitors and buyers to ensure continuous progress. Her diligence alleviated much of the stress, allowing me to relax in the In February 2025, the sale was successfully completed to the satisfaction of all parties. Having spent considerable time researching HS before engaging them, I was encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I am now delighted to add my own endorsement. A special mention must go to Katie, her dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment made all the difference. Even when solicitor negotiations became frustratingly pedantic, she remained composed and solution-focused. Quite simply, her contribution was invaluable. A very disappointing experience based entirely on my documented dealings with Hilton Smythe. I appointed Hilton Smythe to handle the sale of my business under a sole selling rights agreement, expecting a proactive, professional process. Unfortunately, the service delivered fell well below what had been represented at the outset. Key issues based on my experience: • Buyer research list inaccuracies, A list of 67 “qualified prospects” was provided after outreach had taken place. 27 of these were in fact my existing customers, and no list was ever shared for prior approval despite being told that it would be. • Lack of meaningful introductions, The only serious conversations that took place during the entire instruction were with parties I personally introduced, which raises serious questions about the value of the service. • Post-termination fee ambiguity, After giving notice to terminate, I received statements suggesting that fees might still arise depending on who I may ultimately sell to, creating avoidable uncertainty and concern. • Erroneous advice, Certain information given during the process (including on tax-related matters) was later found to be incorrect and had to be clarified independently. • “Data room fee” request, I was asked to pay £250 per month (or £2,500 per year) for a “secure data room,” despite the data held being entirely provided by me. This fee was never disclosed at the start of the agreement and came as a surprise. • Poor communication & lack of progress reporting, Regular updates were lacking, and several concerns raised during the instruction were not adequately addressed. These points are all supported by written correspondence, emails, and records of communication. I would strongly advise any business owner considering using Hilton Smythe to read the agreement extremely carefully, ensure you understand every clause, and clarify expectations in writing before proceeding. This review is based solely on my personal experience and the documented facts arising from it.

This is a late one. I was introduced to Paul through my brother who highly recommended him and Hilton Smythe. I wanted to buy a commercial property through a mainstream bank. I just have to say what a service Paul provided. This acquisition of the building was going through in the Covid crisis and the bank were messing me around on various occasions. Paul was on the end of the phone out of hours, was always chasing the bank and putting pressure on the bank when they were trying to pull out of the deal. It was because of Paul that the deal went through. I cannot recommend this guy highly enough. What shocked me was that when the deal concluded I then found out that Paul didnt own the company but was an employee. The work he put into this deal was second to none. I thank Hilton Smythe for making my dream come true and I would say to them that they have an absolute gem of an employee in Paul. If you need finance for a commercial property dont go anywhere else. Easily a 5 star
