TrustpilotDo not buy your white goods as extras…
Do not buy your white goods as extras from Mcdermott homes when you buy your new build. Once you are out of the manufacturer’s warranty you will have no joy getting a repair or replacement from Mcdermott Homes if anything goes wrong with your appliances. They will use delays tactics for weeks on end and ask you for an engineers report then will fob you off by asking you to contact the manufacturer even though they are actually your retailer. We bought Indesit condenser dryer for £500 on 06/12/2023 installed 14/2/2024 from Mcdermott Homes which has been used for only around 35 drying cycles. My vulnerable relative who is now incontinent with late stage dementia now has no tumble dryer at all. She cannot afford to replace this appliance herself due to all the ongoing expenses of being a disabled person. Further more the manufacturer will not provide a repair unless you pay them. Consumer rights are being breached by Mcdermott Homes as they should provide goods that are fit for purpose and last a reasonable length of time. We have no option but to save up for an engineers report and issue a court money claim against Mcdermott Homes. We are very distrustful of Mcdermott Homes. Indesit charge £144 for a repair at the current time of writing.

GoogleFor nearly three years, I’ve had ongoing issues with cold rooms in my home, particularly Bedroom 1 and Bedroom 2. Despite raising these problems shortly after moving in, and even after their own contractors confirmed faults, McDermott refused to fully fix the issues. This has caused huge stress for my family, especially as my daughter has a medical condition that makes warmth essential. I’ve had to rely on costly electric heaters just to keep the rooms livable. Totally unacceptable customer service.

Please note all the issues before deciding to buy the house in McDermott. While the exterior of the house looks beautiful, you may realize the mistakes you've made once you enter. I encountered unfinished work and other issues after purchasing the house on 01/11/24. Please see the attachment.
My first email is as follows,
1) 5 Burner Gas ( I was told initially that I was buying a 4-bedroom house, by default I would get 5 burner but now I got 4 burner gas burner.
2) The First-floor landing area heater is not fitted properly and water is leaking.
3) The ground floor toilet heater was not fitted properly in the wall, the person who fitted the heater spoiled the wall.
4) Utility area drainage tube water leaking in several places.
5) water leaking in the door and handle in the utility area exit door, backyard big door and front entrance door.
6) All the windows not working properly, the engineer told me on the day of the demonstration that he will come back and fix it but not done yet.
7) Kitchen cabinets are fixed very worst, it’s coming off it’s self.
8)Meter board damage was noted by the engineer on demonstration day.
9) The second bedroom cabinet wood seems like damaged wood has been used.
10) Some areas' paintings are very poor.
My second email is as follows,
I am writing to express my frustration regarding two ongoing issues:
1) It has been 12 days since I reported the problem with my 5-burner gas stove. Additionally, I would like to discuss the quality of the 4-burner gas stove. I am disappointed to have been told that I would receive the 5 burners, yet I have not received them. The mistake seems to have occurred when the stove was installed in a three-bedroom house that did not pay for it; I have proof of this and for your information, I know the house and the person who have received it. I understand that three-bedroom homes are not eligible for the 5 burners. I was informed by one of the buyers that they would not receive them and was told by a sales executive, who informed them that 3 bedroom house is not eligible even though they paid for the stove ( they are ready to pay for the 5-burner gas). I can provide that individual's information if necessary.
This situation reflects poor coordination and quality in your company's operations. If I do not receive a satisfactory resolution, I will escalate this issue to higher authorities and I will go to any extreme till solved or I will bring this issue to the people who may be aware before they do business with your company. Please don't send any documents or try to explain what was not explained by anyone before I purchased that I will not receive the 5-burner gas stove, also don't misunderstand me if you think I understand wrongly, how come the whole family received the same words with the same understanding, we all are working in hospital so we do understand any kind of accent or explanation.
2) I paid for a mirror for the toilet, but the house was delivered without it. I allowed a grace period for this issue to be resolved. Would you accept payment from me weeks after I received the product from your company? Who is responsible for the interest in my money during this time?
Refer to the attached images to see the quality of your product, the paint started to peel out and I can see the existing rust.
My 3rd email is as follows,
1. A 4-burner gas hob was installed instead of the 5-burner model that the sales executive assured me I would receive.
2. I paid for a toilet mirror, but it has not been installed since the key takeover on November 1st.
3. The fridge door is not closing properly. Video attached
4. The exhaust fan for the 4-burner gas hob is making noise and is not functioning correctly. Also old rust on it.
My 4th email is as follows,
It is a total waste of money to buy a house in McDermott. Another issue is that the shower tray in the master bedroom is leaking water; please see the attached video.
All those previous issues are still not solved.
The reply we escalated.

TrustpilotObstructing my legal right to buy the leasehold on my house
McDermott homes continue to obstruct my legal right to purchase the leasehold on my house. I began this process on 25th November 2025 and have got nowhere. McDermott homes could not possibly be this incompetent so I assume this must be a continued deliberate failure

GoogleAVOID!!!!!- these people will take your money then hand you over to the “customer care” team who are useless. If you raise issues the contractors come to your property then lie about what they have discussed with you, or lie about the work being completed, when it hasn’t been. Or try and get out of even attending at all. The CEO clearly thinks it’s below him to respond to or even acknowledge concerns from customers. Totally untrustworthy and unprofessional.

GoogleFrom personal experience, McDermott Homes stands out as a far superior builder compared to other developers. Their after-sales customer care is exceptional, Amanda is highly professional and attentive, while Rick’s workmanship is outstanding. Rest assured, with McDermott Homes, you’re in excellent hands. Highly recommend!

GoogleCannot thank Val enough for all the help and effort she put in to help us buy our 1st home. We was moved in quicker than we thought and always kept up to date through the whole process. Really enjoying our home and neighbours are really friendly! Obviously have a few snags but wouldn't be normal if not with a new build.
Would definitely recommend McDermott homes and McDermott are very luckily to have Val! X

GoogleBought our Mcdermott home in December and could not be happier with it. It literally is a dream come true. Mcdermott have put a lot of thought into the design of their homes catering for today's modern family life. Over the years we have visited many new builds and not many have ever made us think we want to buy one of these. That was until we saw our Mcdermott 4 bed detached Cleveland It was the one . Jonathan the Salesman was so friendly and helpful he knows his houses inside and out and with his help we got our dream house. Thank you Jonathan, Thank you Mcdermott.

GoogleWhere to start....
House is stunning, built to an exceptionally high standard and yes it has/had snags but if you buy a new build and don’t expect snags you are deluded. Our house is a Garth and is huge in size compared to all the rival houses we seen at Bellway & Persimmon. Mcdermott Homes do a far better build and I would recommend these houses to anyone as we viewed around 20 properties before purchasing Plot 30 in Mulberry Park Kirkby.
Optional extras list got hammered by us, from granite worktops throughout to tiling the whole downstairs floors, additional lighting, sockets, cat6 wiring etc. We paid in excess of £20k on extras with lots of off the list requests and the Site Manager and his team delivered on what we paid and asked for.
Last but not least. The sales team are great especially Val who is a diamond. I am a demanding customer who knows what I want and how/when I want it and I had the McDermott team up the wall due to all the extras we had chosen and subsequent changes for late additions we had asked for. Honestly cannot fault the overall process and you would be hard pushed to get anywhere near this quality if choosing another builder.

GoogleNeeded a house to rent for six or so months between sale of our house and finishing building work on our new property. Applied for a newly advertised Mcdermott rental. Provided personal and financial information. Paid reservation fee. Told house was ours. Signed away old house and arranged removal. Then was told CEO had decided to sell the property, despite our being told we could have it. Now desperately seeking another rental before we are legally committed to leave our home.
Do not trust a word they say.
Julie, Anne a pleasant lass. CEO sucks. Too chicken to talk on the phone to explain/apologise.
Sadly no "no stars" option for review

GoogleWell deserving of the five star rating, from start to finish Andrew the sales executive has been very professional and helpful, and the whole process went very smoothly. All the builders on site have been very helpful and curteous, and any snags have been dealt with quickly. Big thank you to Andrew, Tom, Joe and all the team for making my move to High Beeches as smooth and stress free as possible. Couldn't have asked for more.

GoogleFantastic houses, well built and thought out.
Unfortunate that the aftercare is so incredibly poor once you move in.
Reported broken tiles (that we paid a premium for) on key handover in May 2022, still not repaired. Numerous other snags, also not repaired.
We paid a premium for the extraction fan only to be told on key handover that there was some type of problem (extremely loud with poor extraction) and that someone would be out ASAP - nearly a year and a half later and still not repaired/replaced.
It’s literally against the law to sell defective electric appliances….
Customer aftercare is shocking which is a shame as customer care pre-completion is 2nd to none.
Takes weeks to get a email response and then it normally is something useless anyway.
Waste of time to the point I’m now looking at legal options

GoogleHaving lived on the Meadow gate estate for a number of months, I am able to give an informed and sadly honest review of my experiences with McDermott Homes.
Our experiences of McDermott Homes -
Sales Process - Not the best, the previous sales person basically told us a load rubbish. Didn’t give the options to choose certain parts of our property, we didn’t actually see it till they handed over the keys.
Updates on the build process where few and far apart (if at all), it was pre-covid so in order to get update we actually had to come to site as the Sales women didn’t answer emails or calls most of the time. When we did get an update, it didn't seem to match what we could see of the property from the road. Fortunately, she’s not there any longer and since been replaced with a guy who is so much better.
Customer / After Care - Completely useless, the customer care team just
send emails to the site who eventually get round to addressing issues. Sometimes they respond, sometimes they don’t. They certainly have an immature defect and complaints management process in place.
Head Office - Communication with their customers is minimal, they are more focused on profit rather than customer care.
Site Cleanliness and Maintenance - No maintenance service or management company is in place on site as they are still building. The responsibility seems to fall to McDermott Homes which means the basic issues take months and months to resolve (if at all). No one seems to be responsible to actively clear rubbish which has blown off site or for keeping the estate to a general level of cleanliness.
At the present we are living in 24/7 mud directly outside of our property although we have asked McDermott Homes to address the problem for months, emailed for updates on a regular basis, nothing happens. No response to my emails, it’s like living on a farm yard not a residential estate which is damaging our property and generally not place where your children can play out at unless you they like to make mud pies.
Site Staff and Contractors- Always friendly, often go the extra mile to help out when they are actually told there are issues they need to address.
The actual property - Seems well built, no major defects to date. Mainly minor issues such as imperfections in the plaster work and poor finishes.
Would I recommend them? On overall experience - Not at all, I have never dealt with any organisation which treats their customers who have spent a considerable amount of money with them with such disregard. They have a lot of work to do on customer services and after sale care before I could rate them anything more than 1 star.

GoogleGreat quality and finish on the house, Val Wilcox helped our move go as smoothly as possible, and became a good friend.
After 6 months I’d now advise anyone to avoid Mcdermotts at all costs!! The “after sales” service is disgusting and I’ve had to contact both NHBC and consumer code because Mcdermotts will not rectify faults! They take your money and run and trying to get any sort of fault fixed is a nightmare. The site is left filthy and full of potholes, pathways that can’t be walked on and poor street lighting. It’s everyone’s fault but Mcdermotts! Get a grip and look after the customers who have paid good money for your houses or people will get onto you really quickly! Customer service may as well be sales prevention, site staff make all sorts of promises but never live up to them! 28 day snag list still not completed after the 6 months!
Update after 18 months, list of snags still not done!! Further snags have occurred and they have not been rectified either. This is common across the whole site, and is not just me having a go at McDermotts. Feel free to knock on anyone’s door and they will tell you the same and worse!!

GoogleI've rented from McDermott for over a year and now purchased another house from them. Customer care is fantastic. Whenever there was an issue Julie Anne or Janet would respond within couple hours if not minutes. Renting the property was stress free.
They have guided me through the purchase process and when I moved in to the new house and noticed there's a small damage to the cable box outside they sent a contractor to fix it within 2h. Can't praise them enough.
