FacebookI moved into a property rented by Martin & Co in October 2020 whilst covid was still at a high. Before agreeing to let I outlined in my contract that the garden needed clearing of the weeds and mattresses as it was incredibly overgrown and a complete mess. Also the property had one bathroom with a bath but no shower, so I had requested a shower to be fitted prior to my tenancy too. This was all agreed to be done before I moved in. The house was unclean but during my viewing I was also assured it would be professionally cleaned before commencing my tenancy.
Upon moving into the property, neither requests had been completed, and the state of the house was shocking. Nothing had been cleaned at all, everything was covered in muck and dust. The chimney had not been blocked so sut was all over the living room. The worst thing was a faeces stain in the toilet just the highlight the dire state of the property.
I had nothing but problems with the tenancy from here onward. The garden wasnt cleared until 6 weeks after moving in and the shower was not fitted until 10 weeks after moving in. I was given a months refund of rent after much complaining about these issues mutiliple times.
Electrical checks had apparently been done and there was paperwork, but must have been by a cowboy tradesman as a socket was hanging off upstairs and not one of the smoke alarms worked.
Within two month of moving in the damp in the property started to show through the flakey and poor paint job that had been done to quickly rent the property to an unsuspecting victim like myself. Both bedrooms were riddled with it. Little things like the shower rail coming loose, toilet seat broken, and button on the toilet missing were never sorted in my whole year and a half of tenancy at this property. I actually just bought a new toilet seat as I was sick of waiting for things to be organised.
The cherry on the top of this awful experience was that in October 2021 I had organised with the tradesmen who worked for Martin & Co to have access to my property whilst I was away on holiday and fit a new kitchen that the landlord has agreed to so, as this would amend the damp that was showing throughout the kitchen. (DAMP WAS EVERYWHERE) I came home from work on a Monday in September only to find my whole kitchen has been ripped out without my consent and I had no running water or facilities to cook. The most upsetting part for me was knowing my cat had been in all day, and they had done this with him being able to breathe in the dust. As they'd come a month earlier to what we had agreed they had also touched all of my kitchen belongings and piled them up in my living room. When I questioned why at this point they didnt wonder why I had not cleared the cupboards and also still had the cat in the house and my bathroom window open (as if I was on holiday as agreed this wouldn't be the case) the tradesman Ricky said he rang the office and they just told him to go ahead anyway. Rather than anyone ringing me to ask they did not care that it could have been a mistake. The lack of communication has been a common theme throughout my tenancy. I am a single young woman that lives on her own and two men had let themselves into my house without my say so. If I had been off work who knows what situation they could have put me in.
I was put into a travelodge for a few days as I requested to be as my property was uninhabitable. I never received a written apology about this from anyone afterwards and yet another situation was dealt with poorly.
I am a midwife and I have been to university and rented from some questionable estate agents, but the experience I had with martin & co has been by far the worst. I would not reccomend this estate agency to anyone. Although they sorted things once mistakes were made I just cant understand how so many mistakes were allowed to happen, and how miscommunication for an estate agency of this level is acceptable.

This was my first time renting a property and I cannot thank the people at Martin&Co for everything they did while I was in the property. They helped in every way possible and i was never left with unanswered questions. If i had any problems at all they always got them sorted immediately. Thank you for helping me.

FacebookMy husband and I have been trying to reach their lettings department since Friday. We had to evacuate our house with our 2 year old daughter after the CO monitor went off. The gas has been turned off at the mains by the gas emergency services and while we can now be in the house, we have no central heating, hot water or oven as its gas (including the hob). We can’t go on like this. Last night I had to fill my daughters plastic toy box with water I heated in the kettle so I could bath her! Our electric bill is going to be sky high from running the electric heaters I had to go and buy yesterday and boiling the kettle for hot water. We need help and they are refusing to give it! We feel thoroughly let down by Martin and co

A service/agent is only as good as the people that work in the service; at the moment my agent is Stuart Bowley and he is doing an excellent job, he occasionally requires the odd prompt by email but he always responds and my units are presently fully let prove of the pudding.Brian Samways

FacebookMe and my partner currently looking for a house to rent as have everything needed including deposit n first months rent as we told the shop we was interested in a property just of Carlton road to be told that viewing was next week! And as we all-ready viewed the property prior for them to say it’s been given away after leaving us waiting a week to hear back from them shocking customer service over the phone to me and my partner and wouldn’t use them again

GoogleI used Martin and co to buy and manage a property for me. To start off with they sent the wrong details of the property to my solicitor.
Then the letting side..the boiler broke down and the tenants left and they didn't inform me . My next tenant had several things mended at an extortionate price, I soon learnt to find my own workers.
I also was charged for deep cleaning which never too place. I began to check up on them and realised that they were not managing very much at all.I found them stressful and earned very little income from my property but Martin and co did quite well. The staff changed constantly and very few stayed there working for long. All in all it was a very stressful experience. I am relieved we parted company Dec 2018

GoogleAbsolutely awful. Last year it took 6 months to sort out the 'one of the worst cases of damp' the builders had seen.. Now we live without heating in mid-November as they still haven't got back to us about our broken boiler and their excuse is always they're waiting for the landlord. The boiler was also flagged by the man who inspects them for their company. We have a back door that doesn't work and a tree growing over the phone line which has been reported on and off for nearly two years. I've also lost count how many times we've reported the drains, which are still yet to be looked at. For the sake of your health and sanity.. Don't rent off these guys.

We recently applied for a property as we are desperate to get out of our current one. Gemima met us for the viewing and she was extremely friendly and made us greatly aware of the application process. I unfortunately have a less than great credit history which I explained to Gemima who told the landlord before they took application fees therefore we weren't disappointed. Once our applications had come back I received a phone call from Andy who was also really friendly and told us that we were successful in the application and fit us in around our own schedule to sign documents and pick up the keys. All in all a great service and an amazing team!! We couldn't thank you enough! Courtney & Ricky

FacebookI went to look at a property last week which was in need of many repairs. When I mentioned this to the agent she had to ask what repairs I meant so obviously hadn't inspected the property herself. I asked her what should be standard questions asked by a potential tenant and she looked like a deer in headlights and couldn't answer me. When I asked if the landlord was responsible for tidying up the garden before a tenant moved in she said no, it is the tenants responsibility. I then mentioned that the garden was overgrown and needed attention; she tried to tell me the property had been empty a few weeks and that's why it was overgrown (it was at least a couple of years worth if it had ever even been touched before). I then asked the agent to contact the landlord to see if they would be willing to see to the garden and the repairs before putting an application in and she said she would get back to me. I didn't hear from anyone so I called today and the agent told me someone has put an application in already and it's going through referencing! When I said I'd asked her to get in contact with me she lied again and said she had told me at the viewing that I needed to go into the office and fill out forms?! Completely unprofessional and obviously don't care about the state of the properties they are letting.

GoogleRecently I have sold my house through Martin & CO - Worksop branch. I have to say that team which I had a chance to deal with (Stuart, Magda and Lauren) have been very friendly helpful and professional. Due to having new born baby I didn't have time to deal with all paperwork and request form buyer solicitor. Martin & CO team made 100`s phone calls and emails for me and manage to sort out all queries.
Once again. Thank you for your help and support.

Googlehave rented out a property using Martin & Co. I consider this to be my worst experience ever. I was being told that house would be clean and the garden will be properly done before we come in.we were surprised by having dirty carpets and a forest in garden and on informing martin and co were being adviced to contact the land lord as its not their respoisibility, as they had already received money from us.A very good after service evidenced. We are being charged for every single thing but had to chase it with land lord our selves as they office refused to do it despite we paid for it.I will definately not recommand this company. I used coz i had no other option as i was rushing with young kids, but i will advice every body else to start early enough so you dont land in this office for your worst experience.
