A&H Abingdon: Poor Support. Very Poor.

We viewed a house, but the estate agent only had some of the keys, so we could not go into some areas of the property. Then, we called for a second viewing and specifically asked for the estate agent to have all the keys so that we could see the whole property. Plus, we said that it is a 2.5 hour round trip for us to get to the property. The estate agent turned-up to meet us at the property without the keys, so again we could not see all the property. Lots of poor excuses and a poor attitude. A house is obviously the biggest purchase of anyone's life and not to see key areas of the property meant that we chose not to make an offer. Had we seen all of the property, we would have probably offered the asking price.

Had an excellent time moving in with Allen and Harris. Aaron was particularly helpful with setting things up! A couple details could have been clearer but otherwise a fantastic experience.

A huge thank you to Mark for his exceptional service and calmness. My sale was long and arduous due to the chain but he helped me to keep my nerve. His experience, professionalism, ability to listen and make helpful suggestions was invaluable. He held together a tricky chain and needs credit for this. Thank you to Sophie and Poppy too. The whole team were very supportive.

We’ve recently started the process of buying a home, Poppy has been amazing. We’ve had a few issues with the seller and Poppy has sorted them all as well as guiding us promptly through the process. She has helped us a lot and helped destress us. Would highly recommend Poppy if you’re looking to buy a house! Wouldn’t of been able to do it without her

Nightmare experience. Don’t use their Pontcanna branch

I strongly recommend that you don’t use Allan and Harris’s Pontcanna branch. Parents house was sold through them. They failed to set buyer expectations which caused us a lot of issues, they gave bad advice to things they should have been knowledgeable about and we later we found out that they lied about the buyers circumstances. 1) The buyers kept trying to go around A&H and made attempts to contact us directly. Upon telling A&H, they didn’t really care much about it or do anything about it as the buyers kept constantly trying to contact us directly to arrange everything even after we told them they need to go through A&H. 2) The buyers had very unreasonable expectations and A&H did nothing to keep them in check. They failed to get them to understand that they were part of a chain and them wanting the sale completed by a set date had to work for the whole chain or the sale would fall through. To be blunt, I don’t think they even tried. 3) We later found out that they were lying about the buyers circumstances. How do I know they were lying? Well because it was all things they would legally have had to know to complete the sale. Such as they claimed repeatedly that the buyers needed a mortgage and that the sale was held up by them not having signed their mortgage offer, but on the day of the move when we met the buyers in person they directly said they didn’t buy the property on a mortgage and never needed one. They also claimed the sellers owned a flat that was less than 2 minutes away from the property we were selling to them, but turns out that after meeting them that I already knew their land lord who confirmed to me that they were actually renting a house in Leckwith and he was aggressively pushing them out because he wanted out of the renting business. I don’t know why they would lie about this. They should have known all of these details and I’m pretty sure they have a legal responsibility to ensure they had the correct information. I can only assume they were saying these to try and get us to do something for them or the buyers like drop the price or look for another place to buy (irony being that we didn’t care who we sold the place to as long as they could pay). 4) The chain also almost fell apart because the buyers were the weakest ones on the chain. There was massive delays because they couldn’t get their finances (assumed mortgage or otherwise) together. A&H didn’t really care much about this. They didn’t do much to chase the buyer about setting a date or try and find out what was going on with finances. That was annoyingly left to us to do…. 5) On the day of the sale, the buyers turned up less than 30 minutes after the exchange time to try and kick my parents out. The contract specified that they were supposed to give us 6 hours to move out before they turned up. What the buyers did was illegal, because it was written down in the contract and they breached it. A&H were completely uninterested and basically told my parents that they had to get out there and then (something they should have known was wrong as they had a copy of the contract). The buyers did this because it turns out that they were going on holiday and wanted to leave early. Long story short a lot of my parents possessions got damaged or broken and we’re now considering legal action that A&H may get caught up in because they couldn’t do their job of setting seller expectations and knowing basic contract law (you’re and estate agent you should know all of this!). Houses have been selling themselves for the past 20+ years, unfortunately this has given us incompetent estate agents like A&H. I strongly recommend that you use anyone else and if you find a good estate agent be sure to recommend them to all your family and friends so they don’t end up with a rubbish one like Allan and Harris.

Lied from day 1

Rented us a property (which was extremely overpriced but had no choice as was about to become homeless) and said that the landlord was “the best landlord they’ve ever dealt with” Once moved in, the oven didn’t work, the entry phone didn’t work, the tv Ariel’s didn’t work, we had no key for our letter box so couldn’t get into it, the place stunk and was filthy. A cleaner was arranged (by the landlord) but I ended up driving the cleaner home and she couldn’t finish it all because she couldn’t reach and was about 80!! We were informed that a sky employee would be visiting the property to remove the previous tenants sky dish, but this would not affect us as he would just be outside taking it down. Then a random man showed up at our door trying to barge his way in, saying he worked for sky, as he wanted to check there was no evidence inside the property that the sky dish belonged to this address. Turns out, this was the landlord’s friend and he was trying to avoid paying the cost of having a dish removed, by saying it was the upstairs tenants dish. Alan and Harris kept avoiding us when we mentioned the oven, it took five months to get it sorted by which point we had had enough. It was only when one of their employees was on maternity leave that I saw her and she admitted that that particular landlord was the worst client they’d ever had and avoided everything completely. Yet they had told me he was the best to get Me to rent the property. Because of all of this stress, we gave up the property. I am now homeless, even though it’s been over a year, because every penny I had went into renting that property and trying to fix things ourselves. The fact Alan and Harris lied about this landlord is disgusting. Renting a property that has multiple features broken, that is dirty, and wanting an insane amount of money for it, whilst having a landlord who doesn’t care or do anything to help any situation, should be looked into. If I hadn’t have bumped into the staff member who admitted that he was awful, and that they were well aware how bad he was before I even viewed the property, then I wouldn’t have been so disgusted. I wasn’t going to write this review, but I finally had enough. Liars, deceitful people who will do anything to rent properties out and make themselves look good. Even if it means ruining someone’s life.. Avoid like the plague.

Hannah & Milly at the Wiltshire branch…

Hannah & Milly at the Wiltshire branch were amazing. As a letting agency ourselves, we used their services to let a property in their local area for our corporate client. Hannah went out & valued the property & they let it within 4 working days. The customer service we have received is outstanding, friendly & very competitive given that we had communication with two other agents in the area that lacked the enthusiasm & professional touch.

The worst letting agent ever

The worst letting agent ever. They cannot manage your property and are very rude and provide the worst customer service ever. Being with this letting agent has been a nightmare, instead of helping landlords the so called letting manager Tiffany was very rude and explains she’s not a mind reader. She would never answer calls, disregard emails and also accidentally replies to a chain of emails to her colleague but includes us to say how we are ridiculous. Tiffany is so unprofessional and the service provided was appalling. We will never be using this letting agent and recommend not to use unless you want your house to be destroyed and not to have any support from the lettings agent you put your trust in to manage and maintain your property and to have the most appalling service. Stay clear and actually get your moneys worth with another agent.

I feel very let down by this company, My daughter's went to view an apartment for us, to see if it was worth our 2 and a half drive viewing, they said it was ok, so we went to see it and showed our interest only to be told there was a offer for asking price, we upped our offer but then was told it had been sold! Before giving us a chance to up our previous offer. Devastated.

I have had such a good experience using Allen & Harris Witney, I really can't fault anyone that I've dealt with. Everyone has been super friendly, knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. I really knew nothing about property purchasing and they have been so helpful every step of the way. Particular shout out to Sophie who has been absolutely fantastic, and did so much of the heavy lifting in terms of chasing (very slow!) solicitors.

Read the Contract!

I employed this company to sell a house. After 6 months and no sensible offers, I terminated their contract. A few months later, I sold the house through another agent, who were brilliant. However it turned out that the eventual buyers had seen the house originally several months before through Allen and Harris. The next thing I knew was their high powered solicitors demanding full payment of their selling fees, which according to their contract I have to pay indefinitely after they have sown anyone the house. This is criminal and they should be ashamed of themselves putting a clause like that in a legal contract. So beware, read all the small print. Don't use Allen and Harris as they are absolutely useless.

I rarely post reviews on service companies or products, but Allen & Harris Witney (especially Alex Chappell) undoubtedly deserve a 5-star rating! My sale was with Purple Bricks (never again) but my purchase was being handled by Allen & Harris. They combined great customer service (even though I wasn't strictly speaking their customer), knowledge and communication through a very difficult time with multiple poor standard conveyancers in the chain. Moving house is stressful enough as it is, so anyone who can help alleviate some of the angst and make you feel less isolated deserves to be recognised. Allen & Harris is most definitely one of those companies!PositiveResponsiveness, Professionalism

Very disappointing. I have been honest and transparent with Allen and Harris about not selling my property urgently and have told them that I am prepared to wait. They convinced me to decrease my asking price by £10,000.I categorically did not want to do this and was persuaded to do so. A week later they told me that they had sold the property at near enough asking price. One caveat they had not mentioned was that I needed to extend the lease when they made the offer. Prior to selling the property, I had had discussions with the area manager that one option would be to go halves on the lease extension with the buyer. I was happy to do this and not pay for the whole lease extension out of my profits. I am not sure if this was relayed to the buyer. A week later after I had accepted the offer, which was a huge mistake on my part, I found out that the lease extension could take 6 months to a year. I asked them to go back to the buyer and ask them to pay a negotiated amount where I had dropped the property price by a further £5000 but the buyer would extend the lease. The area manager point blank refused to do so as this would mean the sale would fall through. I have now decided to extend the lease and am deciding on whether I will continue with the sale with Allen and Harris as my 20 week contract period to them should be up soon. I have been told that there are more people enquiring about the property just this morning but Allen and Harris are not acting in my best interest and telling the buyer that the lease extension could take 6 months to a year. They are now denying that I informed them of this. When I asked them what the rush was to sell the property they could not give me an answer. My agent told me that she was not going to have this conversation with me and that she would get the manager to contact me.
