TrustpilotHardwick hall
Have been to a few of the different sites now and we have been enjoying them the halls and the garden , the only thing we are really disappointed with is the lack on rubbish bins take today for instance I carried around a dog poo bag for over a hour I actually went out it in one bin but was told I couldn’t put it in that one , no wonder you have dog walkers not bothering to pick up after their dogs. Please install more bins

TrustpilotJust a massive rip off now the NT
Just a massive rip off now the NT. I cancelled my very expensive monthly donationn. only to be told there is an annual commitment hidden deep in the T's and C's no doubt but certainly no warning when signing up, so NT not only try to rip you off with shop merchandise (the prices aren't for the average joe), they punish you for wanting to cancel too. Ill never re join and by the look of the state of your review level on here, I'm not the only one. please don't bother to respond and spare me the "I'm sorry you didn't realise it was annual subscription like you rudeley implied to others" Coming into force next year, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 is intended to minimise “subscription traps”, where consumers are misled into signing up through a “free trial” or reduced price offer. lets hope NT get dragged into this as its very scammy. I for one will be supporting them having to refund everyone.

TrustpilotSaw an advert for National trust…
Saw an advert for National trust Pokémon event. Our grandson who is 13 and Pokémon is his one big hobby, so thought it would make a good day out. Went to Fountain's Abbey, very disappointed. A few wooden cutouts and a leaflet to put stickers on, to fill it you had to go to other National trust places. It was advertised in the paper that there were trading cards and games etc. It should be advertised for under 10's. Very disappointed.

Trustpilot1 HORSEY BARNS - TAKE CARE BEFORE BOOKING
I am disabled as a result of bone cancer and a failed hip joint following radiotherapy. I am able to move about indoors and walk short distances with crutches otherwise I use a wheelchair. We booked this property because it has wheelchair wide doorways and a walk in shower with a shower seat. The photographs show a bright welcoming property.
The reality is that there is a heavy self closing fire door leading to the bedrooms which I was unable to open in either direction and there wasn't a shower chair. On arrival at about 4pm on a bright June afternoon we found the property was dark, tired and uninviting.
We spent about an hour at the property whilst we organised suitable alternative accommodation with another agency.
We complained to the National Trust and also requested that it be referred to the Director-General Hilary McGrady. They declined to offer compensation citing the availability of access information and all other details provided on their website. They do not acknowledge that no mention of the fire door is a major omission on their part and said that a shower chair would have been provided the same day had we contacted them.
At close to £1000.00 for 7 days this property does not provide anything like value for money.
Having been members of The National Trust for 26 years we have cancelled our membership.

TrustpilotDolaucothi Gold Mine recommended for kids all ages
The site and staff are of the usual high NT standards. The underground tour was great enjoyed by Nanna, Tadcu and the grandkids, 9, 7 and 4. There are two exits from the tour, back the way you came, or for teh more adventourous, the roof top escape. Plerase note these are victorian workings and up/down many steps of various heights, only foir teh able-bodied. Kids can pan for "gold" in teh sluices, there are a number of exhibits in different buildings showing teh history of teh place from Roan times until it shut last century/ The tour also gives you a brief historical run through of the ownership and how they faired. Well recommended.

TrustpilotIsolation hospital, Corfe Castle
The two properties are down a track off a very busy Wareham to Corfe Castle road, you can wait quite a long time before you can pull out safely.
We had the larger property and at first glance it was lovely with amazing views over heathland, although dog friendly there was no secure area for the dogs to be let out on their own and on two occasions one of the dogs from the other property was found in our property.
The property was very roomy and the bedrooms a comfortable size although the beds were quite high, as we were staying for two weeks we started to notice that the outside of the property was in dire need of some maintenance, the wooden window frames were rotten and one window was hanging by a few screws, it wouldn’t have taken much for the whole window frame to fall out. The rear of the property needed painting and there was an issue with ants inside the house, although a high chair was included there was no other equipment for children, one of the grandchildren fell out of bed three times the first night as no guard rail had been supplied. The bathroom taps dripped the whole time we were there and there was water on the floor around the sinks, the wooden floors had nails sticking up and one child had splinters from walking barefoot. It would have been nice to have had a note pad and pencil to hand, we spent a lot of money on this holiday property and didn’t expect to find it in such a poor state of repair.
We tried the pub across the road where the food was tasty but the portions were small and expensive, again we had an issue getting out and across the road safely.

TrustpilotHighertown Farm Camp Site near Looe Cornwall.
I have just attempted to book a two night stay in my camper at the National Trust campsite Highertown Farm Campsite near Looe, my advice would be, do not bother, you will be charged extra for a 2nd person. Price quoted £70 for two nights in my campervan but increased to over £82 plus to take my husband with me ! Generally when you book the price is for 2 people at most campsites. No discount for being a NT member for over 10 years. While I am here, the new 'Just Park' introduction is a complete pain the reviewer on here is correct you do have to submit credit/bank card details to enable you to proceed with the process in Penzance. I'm happy to put my NT number but not happy to share my bank/credit card details with JustPark they simply do not need it for any purpose.

Hi Jan,
Thank you for taking the time to review.
I'm sorry there was confusion over the charges for your recent campervan stay. I've passed on your comments to our Holidays Team for their review.
Regarding the requirement to enter payment details when registering with JustPark, this is part of the standard account set up process used across the platform. The app asks for credit or debit card details so that users can make payments where required, either via the app or through the telephone service. However, once your National Trust membership details are added to your JustPark account, parking at participating properties is free and your card will not be charged.
Thank you again for your feedback and valuable support.

TrustpilotPrices have soared but standards haven’t!
We’ve enjoyed staying in National Trust Holiday cottages because they’ve always been affordable and we appreciate that the income supports conservation. Unfortunately, the prices have now increased to a level that simply doesn’t reflect the standard of the accommodation. The same cottage we have stayed at twice has now increased by 85% since the following years stay despite extensive mould, damp, bubbling paint and tired decor. When I raised my concerns, I received a generic response that didn’t address the condition of the property or the value for money. It’s disappointing because we wanted to continue making this an annual holiday, but at these prices we’ll be looking elsewhere

TrustpilotBrent Knoll death trap
What went wrong was whilst I had a great day walking on the Knoll, the death trap that I tried to report 5 years ago is still there. 5 steel bits of angle iron , sticking up where someone could fall on them. These steel stakes sticking up 24 " or so in the long grass on the north side a few metres from the summit probably once supported a seat.

TrustpilotNation Trust holiday let’s gone wrong
Having booked a cottage in North Wales we were informed a few weeks before departure that our booking was cancelled. We were offered another property LletyMawr ( which we are currently in) The whole change was arranged by an off hand Staff member who just wanted me to take a refund
On arrival we have to park 200 meters from the property in a pay and display car park A parking permit was alleged to be provided but took two days to find as the cleaner had placed tea pots etc on top of them
The stairs are described as ‘steep’ but are in reality steep ,uneven and dangerous. (A possible breach of well established building regulations) None of this was mentioned when they rearranged our holiday nor was any question of my mobility enquired about
This cottage sleeps six but has only one bathroom at the top of the aforementioned rock face climb to the first floor
I am really concerned about the direction the NT is taking. Many of their holiday let’s have been withdrawn from service. The internet is full of disgruntled customers who feel let down and taken for granted.
Be warned by my review that nothing with the NT is what it seems or what you might expect and book elsewhere as I will do in future

TrustpilotMoney for old rope…
Having been given a gift card for my birthday to use National trust properties I duly looked at booking online. Was told online booking might not be possible for all places, so off we trot with a £50 voucher to use at Ascott House Bucks. No sorry we don't accept gift cards I was told. So what I'm saying is tell your loved ones to stop handing gift cards out as they are no accepted everywhere, making it a profitable scheme getting money without any fulfilment. Cannot say whether I would ever give or want to receive anything to do with the National trust ever again.

TrustpilotPaying a Subscription for No Benefit whatsoever.
My husband began his subscription to The National Trust in December 2025. When he was purchasing his membership he obtained a free Carer's Pass for me. He explained that he was in poor health (Parkinson's) and that he might not be able to use his membership for long and he enquired whether he could transfer his membership to me when he was too ill to use it. He was told that he could do that. He is now in a Care Home and is unable leave. I, as his Attorney, telephoned the NT to ask for the membership to be transferred to me and was told that it was not transferrable. If my husband has known this he would never have purchased membership. I have also been told that he must continue to pay the subscription for the rest of the year. So he is having to pay for a membership which he has never used and never will be able to use. A total waste of money. If I had been able to have the membership transferred to me I would have probably really enjoyed the experience of visiting the various venues and would have renewed in my own name the following year.

Sadly, 2 stars is about right.
Poorly run estates, little volunteer training in the art of customer service especially in cafes not to mention the overpaid ceo (£209.000/annum) with little or no direction in how to manage the property and estates in her care.

Just as well there are older volunteers in the main keeping things going.

TrustpilotNever again - total nightmare
Before booking a holiday cottage, we emailed to see if there were any adjoining properties. A reply from Elizabeth confirmed there were none and it was set 'on its own'. We could see two doors on the cottage so we replied to ask again if the other door was an adjoining property. Elizabeth replied to say both doors were part of the cottage. So we booked. We then emailed again to see if the local team could confirm any adjoining properties - this time the reply said a tenant lived in an adjoining property. I called for a refund but they said I didn't have a case as the emails were sent from my email but the booking was in my husbands email. What a fob off! the lady I spoke to was so callous. I hung up and called back - a lovely guy called Mike answered and sorted our refund in minutes. He had common sense, was empathetic and so reassuring. All credit to him. Our last experience at a National Trust cottahe was equally disastrous. Drive 6 hours to get there at night and fine the previous people's bedsheets in the bathtub and dishes in the sink. the cottage hadn't been cleaned. We were asked to find a hotel for the night so it could be cleaned the next day. We ended up just driving home again, having a 12 hour round trip with 2 kids and a canceled holiday. Never again.

Went to visit Dovedale stepping stones. Car park was £6 for all day but with no option to stay for less time. On top of that cost for car park, there was a £0.50 charge to use toilets. This applied for baby changing too. I would have thought that the expensive car park costs would have contributed to the costs of the toilets.

TrustpilotRedemption of Gift voucher/card online.
Wanted to use a gift voucher I had been bought to purchase membership online and was sent a link to use this, directing me to purchase a gift membership (was told this was the only way to use a gift voucher online). Unfortunately, I was later advised that, using this method you are not sent a temporary pass by email until the hard copy arrives. Which is all very well unless you particularly want to go somewhere on the day you purchase it, for a display that is only on for 2 days more! NT perhaps need to review this online anomaly for using gift vouchers. However, on the plus side, all the staff I spoke to about this (3 separate calls) were very nice and tried to help, even tho they couldn't resolve the problem and I missed the display.
