Be very careful if you are looking to buy a property with Dexters on Northcote Road. I initially called about a property that was advertised for 450k but this had gone (because they keep the properties up, increasing the chances of you getting gazumped). I was shown an ‘off market’ property instead which I was told was in the same price bracket and met my criteria. At the end of the viewing I was told the property was actually on for 550k property and later learned it was actually online and for 500k (bit of a difference). I should have walked away at this point as when you’re buying a property a certain level of trust is needed. Once your offer is accepted, Dexters give you 5 days to provide your solicitors details, have a mortgage submitted and a mortgage valuation booked via the bank. My mortgage application was submitted and mortgage valuation requested. However, banks don’t work to Dexters timelines and the Estate Agent threatened to start up viewings again as while my mortgage valuation was requested it was not ‘booked’- calling several times and at some points every hour. Both my solicitor and mortgage broker who do this all the time also complained. This is completely unnecessary stress when you are starting to part with your savings. They would also chase me, to chase my solicitor, to chase the sellers solicitor throughout the process as the seller wanted to move quickly even when action was required by them which is ridiculous. Dexters will put pressure on you to apply for your searches but as these cost you money, it’s important to do when you and your solicitor are happy all the information is correct. In my case the information Dexters gave me wasn’t correct. They also tried to deny there was damp in the property even though the paint came off in my hand at the viewing with the agent. In the end, the information I was provided by Dexters about the service charge was incorrect, it was more than double what they had said, and I would not have offered on the property if I had known. The level of chasing throughout this time was completely unnecessary, stressful and did not add value/move things along as a good estate agent I have learned will do. When I complained to the Director he was just as bad and did not let me speak. He said he was ‘not going to apologise for giving me incorrect information’ and blamed buying and selling in this country. Dexters were awful, untrustworthy with a terrible culture and I would never contemplate using them. You might not be their client but it’s your money so be really careful!

I recently sold a property through Dexter and my contact was Matt Ward. He never met him and all my dealing with was via email or telephone calls. I honestly and truthfully can say that the whole process from the start to the end, Matt conducted himself in an exceptionally professional way and whatever we agreed on the phone was exactly what happened. Not only did he do the talking, he also did the walking. I am not easily impressed, but Matt Ward impressed me immensely. I am extremely grateful to come across Matt Ward whom of course represents Dexter and he does in a most profound way.
