Avoid this rental agency (Victoria…

Avoid this rental agency (Victoria branch) if you can. Our experience with them was extremely disappointing. The agency appears to prioritise landlords’ interests entirely and shows very little concern for tenants’ wellbeing or fair treatment. During our tenancy, we experienced three separate water leaks in different rooms, which took over two and a half years to resolve. Despite this, the agency refused any rent reduction, seemingly more focused on ensuring the landlord did not have to spend money on proper repairs. When we first moved in, the boiler was not functioning. During the repairs the engineer had to turn off the gas. That is when we discovered that the wrong gas meter was assigned to our flat. We immediately informed Century21, but they offered no assistance whatsoever. It took us over a year to get the correct gas meter reference linked to our property. The agency later introduced a flashy online “tenant dashboard” for reporting maintenance issues, but it was never properly monitored. Problems logged there were routinely ignored. The worst experience came at the end of the tenancy. We received multiple harassing reminder emails about professional cleaning and key returns, even though the flat had been in a filthy state when we moved in, so much so that our cleaner spent hours just to make it livable. Thankfully, we documented everything with photos and videos when moving in and before moving out. Ten days after checkout, we received a report with nearly £1,000 in proposed deductions from our deposit. Upon review, we found serious errors, including charges for missing items such as a £40 BT modem, which we had clear evidence of leaving behind. Some items were even hidden in closets, yet we were still being charged for them. This felt outright dishonest. When we moved in, the flat had been cluttered with personal belongings and in poor condition. The original agent, who has since left Century21, agreed that many items should be removed due to their state. We eventually initiated a full deposit refund claim through the DPS. Shockingly, almost a month later, the agency produced a second checkout report, something we have never encountered before. We wrote to the regional director to raise these serious concerns, but he ignored multiple emails and did not return our calls. Only after we reached him through another cell phone did he finally pickup and listen. After explaining the situation in detail, and confirming that the former agent supported our account, the landlords eventually agreed to refund the full deposit. Overall, our experience with Century21 Victoria was marked by neglect, poor communication, and questionable business practices. I strongly advise future tenants to avoid this agency altogether.

Poor Transparency of Let only Fees BEWARE

I instructed Century 21 Royale Surbiton on a Let Only basis. During the sales process, the Let Only/Tenant Find service was presented to me as "6% + VAT paid once upfront", and my understanding from the documentation provided was that this was a one-off fee for securing a tenant. I was therefore surprised when I later received an invoice demanding a further 6% commission (£1,680) because the same tenant remained in occupation for a second year. No new tenant had been found, no new references were required and the tenancy simply continued. The renewal fee should have only been £250. In my view, this second-year commission was not made sufficiently transparent when I instructed the agency. During the complaints process, Century 21 referred to additional assistance that had been provided during the tenancy. However, I did not request or agree to purchase any services beyond the Let Only instruction, and I was never informed that any assistance offered would later be relied upon as justification for the second-year commission. Indeed, when I later sought assistance with a tenancy deposit dispute, I was told that, because my instruction was Let Only, the agency could not become involved.I raised my concerns with both the franchise and Century 21 UK's senior management. Although head office reviewed my complaint, they ultimately declined to refund the commission. This experience has highlighted to me the importance of transparency when landlords are entering into contracts. Since moving to another letting agent, I have found their fees and charging structure to be clearly explained from the outset, which has reinforced how important clear and transparent terms are. Unfortunately, because of my experience, I would not use Century 21 again or recommend them to other landlords.

Avoid this letting agency if possible

Avoid this letting agency if possible. Incredibly vague with details, lots of miscommunication and very slow to process deposits and paperwork. Paid a deposit, submitted lots of paperwork and then heard nothing back until we were suddenly told that someone else was going to take the flat unless we paid more, basically extortion as this shouldn't really be allowed as it negates the purpose of a holding deposit. When we moved in we were only provided with one key, and after two weeks of asking, they eventually got round to giving us another, only after I highlighted that failing to do so may constitute breach of contract as it was essentially withholding access to a property and facilities that we were currently paying for. When it came time to leave the property, they did not have their own key and therefore requested that we take time out of work to be at the flat so that they could conduct viewings, which is ridiculous as this is not the job or obligation of the current tenant and they cannot be expected to take time out of their working life to assist the letting agent in performing their job. This was a recurrent theme throughout whereby things that were the responsibility of the letting agent or landlord had to be either prompted by or entirely done by us as the tenants. Charged us an excessive cleaning bill with no details/breakdown of the cleaning that was actually provided. Shocking experience from start to finish. Would avoid.

Century 21 Bedford is a scam

Century 21 in Bedford is ran by a scam lord not a landlord, they steal deposits, refuse to provide heating. They will happily illegally let flats with damp, mould and fungus growing in the floors. They refuse to repair anything properly and don't use qualified people to do the repairs. STAY WELL CLEAR OF CENTURY 21 BEDFORD BUNCH OF THIEVES AND SCAMMERS

Good afternoon Andrew, I can only apologise if you feel you had an unfair experience each branch is an indepentently owned and operated franchise. I have since spoken to the branch who mentioned you left the apartment a number of months ago due to needing a bigger apartment but they mentioned that the issues you experienced were repaired for you during the tenancy. I am happy to discuss this with you if you prefer? Regards, Sam.

I have had the best experience ever

I have had the best experience with century 21. We went through the worst nightmare especially going through the interest hike. Perry has been phenomenal a big asset to the company. He helped us through out the way and Lisa she has been ever so kind keeping us up to date with everything and make sure everything goes smoothly. I would highly recommend to go with century 21 the best in the business. 10 out of 10 💯

Greedy and rude staff, broke the contract

I hope this review is helpful to some, especially young people moving out for the first time. Sorry it’s so long, but that’s how awful Peterborough's Century 21 is. This company have failed me time and time again. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and bite my tongue because I was so excited to just move out of my family home and gain some independence, I saw everything through rose tinted glasses. I arrived at my room in my shared accommodation on the 4th of July 2022, where I found dirty skirting boards (literally layers of dirt and dust), cobwebs in every corner, stains on the carpet, a horrible paint job, a bathroom ceiling literally peeling off, a door that doesn’t shut properly, and numerous other things. These are all things that absolutely should’ve been sorted before my tenancy started, but I ignored it, I enjoy cleaning, so I was happy to do that myself. The other things weren’t extreme but just made my living situation a bit dingy considering I was paying £525 a month for a house share with that much wrong with it… Anyway, I carried on trying to enjoy my tenancy despite these factors, until I became aware of contractors viewing my room without my knowledge, (which is very illegal). Someone let it slip on the phone to me that they had been there while I was at work, nobody had bothered to make me aware of this. I am a 19-year-old girl who very much values my privacy, so to have men in my room without my knowledge made me very uncomfortable. All I got back from Century21 was them shifting the blame to the contractor company. Proceeding this awful experience, I asked Curtis and Ben to contact my landlord to see if I could get my tenancy ended early, as C21 had now broken the contract by letting someone into my room without my knowledge. It took a few weeks for someone to actually be bothered to give me an answer from my landlord, even after me offering to contact them myself, leaving me to pay another month rent when all I wanted to do is be rid of this company and the broken house I lived in. While I spent my last month in the accommodation there was a tap leak (the tap was broken the whole time I lived there but this was the first time it leaked into cupboards) the leak ruined all the food I had in my cupboards and some kitchen supplies I had in there too. I received no apology for my inconvenience. During the time my room was being viewed by potential tenants there was a few times people would view my room without my knowledge. I know this because I came home from work once and there were still 2 viewing lefts on the room when I was only aware of one happening that morning (not at 3pm) … For the first viewing that was arranged with myself and one of the team for Saturday 10th September, I didn’t end up being home for the viewing when I said I would be. There was an emergency which meant I had to be elsewhere, however when I told Curtis on the phone that I wasn’t there he sighed at me and explained he didn’t bring any keys to the property, like its my job? When I apologised for this, he cut me off and put the phone down without saying anything. I remember being infuriated at the attitude, but I let it slide because I didn’t want to talk with C21 about anything but my tenancy at this point. Since leaving the room, C21 have now tried to deduct £55 from my £250 deposit because “there was a stain on the carpet, and the bathroom and bedroom was left very, very dirty”. Anyone who has seen the state of that room when I first moved in can vouch for me that the room was cleaner when I lived in it/after I left than when I first moved in (and the stain was already there, a family member even mentioned it to someone) . Curtis stated in an email prior to my move out date, that the room be cleaned, but only so it’s not in a worse state than what it was when I moved in. I spent an hour cleaning every visible bit in that room, however because I missed a tap, a plug and left a hair on the wall in the shower they feel the need to take £55 off me. This company is greedy, rude and has absolutely no care for their customers. Century 21 made my first time moving out a miserable one and I wish only bad things for them as it really is one mistake after another with them. I got no sincere apology and probably never will. I’ve worked with customers before so I know exactly what kind of person I seem to them because they will not be able to see how awful they really are. I’m so disappointed with the slow/lack of communication I’ve had with them let alone the contract they broke and tried to blame on someone else.

Avoid

Just recently rented a property with century 21 (peterborough) trying to get Information, housing issues sorted or even trying to talk to the one person you need to is impossible. Everyone just fobs you off you wait days for a call back or reply. I regret getting a rental through this company and at the point i have been moved in a week and ready to find a new house due to the service. It's shocking. As unable to reply on here, it isn't just the contractor, its everyone, I understand we're at Xmas time and it's a busy time for them but a little bit of out their way communication wouldn't go far, or an email to say I've received your query I will get back to you as soon as I'm avaliable but they don't, they leave you hanging for hours and even days.

I have been renting for 14 years in the UK and century 21 Slough is perhaps the worst estate agent I have come across in my life. I was shown a new one bed flat and it was empty, When asked about furniture i was told that it’s a ‘luxury’ flat and furniture will be very good and similar to the picture they put on the website from the Showhome. But when I got the keys, the furniture was almost ‘cheapest possible’ one can buy and not only that it’s still missing few things. When I complained them about it they say you should speak to landlord. Which is completely unfair as first they told me to move in and furniture will soon be completed. Also, it’s not a maintenance matter but I was told a lie by the agent. I feel cheated. No ethics at all ! Unfair and Unjust !!

They did what my other FOUR agents couldn't do. Sell my home

I found them (Century 21) honest and frank when needed. I had my property up for three years with four different agents. none of them seemed interested after i signed that contract. I met Peter at my house at 730pm on a Thursday. He certainly told me what i needed to hear; not not what i wanted to hear. But Wow, worth every penny of his sales fee. I now own three properties with the funds and i was able to reduce most bills down and have an income without the daily grind of 9 -5 Thanks Peter Please get your property valued with Century 21 Sutton Coldfield. They don't mess about.

Communication is absolutely terrible

Also known as Symonds and Greenaway at least in Peterborough. They very rarely answer their phone. You can leave messages for them to call back, but they won't call you back. When you do speak to them, they will tell you they'll call you back with information on a property you inquired about... they will not. They do not reply to emails. Communication is just terrible all around. Eventually after about 12 attempts, we were able to visit a property. The person was caught in traffic and she was very kind, but despite registering my interest in the property we were shown, we didn't hear anything further. No email, which we'd agreed to. Another property appeared, and once again they don't answer the phone. After about 5 attempts, someone finally answered. Agreed to call back with info on a property. They didn't call back obviously. Not sure what's going on but they clearly don't want people's business.

I was supposed to meet the agent yesterday as I fixed an appointment the day before. He never showed up and he didn't send any cancellation email. He didn't contact me and, on top of that, he either disconnected the phone or blocked my call. This is a clear example of a non professional team who doesn't care for their customers. Seriousness and competence are by far the worst ever experienced. I am happy not to consider any of the housing opportunities of this agency. Stay away from this, not recommended at all!

Illegal eviction! And all belongings disposed

Moved into a studio flat in Bedford at the beginning of October. Signed an assured shorthold tenancy agreement. I went away on the 22nd of to December to spend with family. I came back to the property in the 3rd of January. The hotel style keycard would not let me into the flat. I called Fiona (Aka Amna) who is the wife of the landlords son and acting as an agent. Fiona answered my call and After explaining my situation. She started to laugh and then started to swear . I explained I've got nowhere to go it's 9pm she just swore and like laughed like a child. She then told me all my belongings were thrown in the bin a week ago I checked and didn't see any belongings. . I've been made homeless with no legal prossess followed.
