Excellent Estate Agent

This is the third property i have bought in Shenley and Chris and Georgina have managed the all three. I wouldn't use anyone else. In this tough market we find ourselves in they work tirelessly to push the sale of your property and help in finding you the perfect fit for your next move. This stressful process was made even more difficult by a sub standard solicitor and Georgina went above and beyond to try and help solve the delays and issues caused by this. A real family business who i cannot rate highly enough.

10 years ago, Chris and the team helped with the sale of my property while other local agents dragged their heels. 10 years later, same again. Unsure whether to sale or let a property as a first-time landlord, Chris took plenty of time to fully understand my personal situation (while other agents compete internally with sale v letting and may as well be separate businesses - which I found very frustrating). Then once the decision was made to let, the focus, attention to detail and professionalism across the whole team to keep things moving and get results is first class. Truly the best agents around that can’t be recommended highly enough.

Dishonest, high-pressure estate agents

UPDATE - the agents in question have written attempting to scare us into deleting the review, this has now been reported to Trustpilot. I am very disappointed with my experience buying a house through Barkers and Georgina. First was the underhand pressure tactics to get us to use their own list of preferred solicitors for a fast, high-pressured sale. Second, upon direct questioning about previous surveys etc - having seen on first viewing that the cottage for sale was in dire need of structural support - I was told directly by Georgina that previous buyers had only minor issues on surveys and that mortgages fell through for affordability reasons. Thereby wasting my money on a level 3 survey which revealed significant structural damage and subsidence (MOVING HOME!) that meant it was effectively a money pit and we would never want to buy it! And luckily did not proceed. Given the house was marketed at full value, and the estate agent and seller must have had this information (the house had signs of recent repair work and previous surveys were done ), I can only conclude that they acted in bad faith. Taking estate agent dishonesty to new levels and leaving us significantly out of pocket. I am humiliated and ashamed to have ever crossed paths with them.

Exceptional service from Barkers in Shenley

My husband and I had to make the difficulty decision to downsize and move to a different area. Having registered with both local agencies in Shenley, Barkers and more importantly Georgina, demonstrated expertise and professionalism way beyond that of the other local agency. Our "wish list" and "budget" could have put the most patient of agents into a spin, but Georgina remained calm and supportive throughout the process. She was instrumental in her negotiations, managing to keep both her client ( the vendor) and us secure in the knowledge that she had our best interests at heart, and would often be available out of usual office hours to keep both parties " in the loop." We would not hesitate to recommend Georgina and Barkers to anyone looking to buy or sell in Shenley. We cannot thank them enough for helping to navigate a very emotional move for us. The service is first class, and Georgina is just brilliant.

Barkers are the best!

I initially did not market my house with Barkers; despite my gut feeling being that I should have chosen them. I foolishly went with a "national" rival whom I was very disappointed in. Thus I switched to Barkers and the difference in service was immeasurable. Chris Newell is extremely knowledgeable and a good businessman and genuinely cares. Even when I did not initially let him take the house sale on, he still gave me advice and then when I became completely disillusioned with the other company, happily welcomed me back and marketed my home extremely well- listening to me and ensuring I was happy with the decisions. Georgina Newell was exceptional. Professional, approachable and always willing to go the extra mile. She has a measured approach and excellent judgement. She found lots of viable buyers and when things became a little unstuck with a Land Registry issue, it was Georgina who came up with the answer! Not the highly paid solicitors who did not really know what to do! Sell and buy your home or rent with Barkers because they are the best, family, bespoke agency in the area.

BARKERS, gone to the dogs..

You really do get what you pay for. A 0.75 commission for selling your house does seem very appealing but you don't get owt for it. Appointments made for viewings which don't turn up and those who do we don't here any feedback because Barkers doesn't bother with a follow up call. House been on the market for 10 months and they haven't agreed a different marketing strategy maybe reduce asking price, but just left the house to stagnate with no means of pushing for a sale. Rubbish estate agents.

A disappointing experience

Posted on behalf of my partner. I instructed Barkers in early April to sell my house after searching the internet and reviews speaking highly of them. I also had another agent due the next day. Following the agent viewing my house and talking to him, he seemed extremely keen to be given the instruction, saying four times he would like the instruction and saying I could contact him whenever I needed to and he agreed to market for 4 weeks. Both myself and my partner liked him, so we went ahead and cancelled the second agent. However it went downhill from here. We only had 3 viewings from them in the first 3 weeks after the instruction and communications were poor. The agent would rarely answer his phone and I was given another agents contact details who works with him. She mostly communicated by WhatsApp but would not often come back with a timely response. After those three weeks I wanted to give notice, but she persuaded me to find another agent who would work as a joint sole agency which I did. However after 10 weeks, barely any viewings and no offers I decided I had no choice but to give notice. It then appeared that I was blocked on WhatsApp and as I had given notice they weren't going to do anything over that 2 week period. When I called the office to speak to the agent I was rudely spoken to by a member of staff who answered the phone. There has been interest from about 3 different viewers, but Barkers have been very slow to follow these up and I have had to chase them constantly to ask for any progress. However one of these viewers didn't know how much he could afford and another person was actually looking for his sister and the agent didn't even really know who the buyer was. I had to ask for the key back and when it wasn't returned, my partner went to the office the next day to pick it up. I had to remind the agent to cease the marketing and was told it would be removed from Rightmove by the close of business that day, it wasn't. I sent an email at 08:50 the next morning and it was finally taken down. Everything felt like hard work. I certainly never felt they were trying for me. It has been a very disappointing experience and I simply cannot recommend them. Update 13/07/24 - my partner received a call yesterday from the agent to say someone who had viewed our house previously wanted to come back with his partner to view today. No one came at the expected time, so my partner called Barkers and spoke to a person who said she'd get back to him. She called back saying that the couple now didn't want to view and the agent hadn't called for whatever reason. Texting and WhatsApp not possible then? Communication is appalling. Really, people don't use this company, they can't cope.

Chris from Barkers was fantastic in helping us get on the ladder with our first home. We managed to get the keys within 48 days of viewing a property which met all our requirements - and then some. I used barkers for renting a property. The staff don’t know what they’re talking about, I was hung up on when asking important questions on our move in day as they didn’t know the answer. We were given out of date and incorrect safety certificates. Constantly have to chase to get work done as they ignore you and things never get completed. The staff are rude, unapproachable and not understanding. We put A LOT of effort in when leaving the property and making sure it looked better than when we moved in. The proof was in the inventories before and after our tenancy with photos and comments to back this up, yet we still had to pay a fee when we vacated the property. The person who attended the property after we vacated to do the inspection and inventory left a big dirty mark on the carpet to which they tried to get up to pay for. Luckily we got a video of the flat before leaving proving this was not us. Generally a disappointing experience overall and would not use them again.

Only use Barkers if you want to sell your property

We recently sold our property in Radlett through Barkers. We tried one agent in the area. After trying others, whether it was clash of personality or lack of performance, we gave sole agency to Barkers. When we first met Chris from Barkers, we liked him immediately. Very positive, listened to everything we said and wasn't pushy at all. It was all at our pace. We never had to show the property even if we were in. Sometimes his delightful daughter Georgina showed prospective buyers round. Chris and Georgina are very honest and completely trustworthy. They wont say anything just because its what we want to hear. You may feel your house is worth more, but Chris will give you a correct valuation of what your house will sell for. All agents will give different valuations, but if too high, no one will buy it! They put a lot of time and effort into selling our property. We relied on them 100% and they never let us down. We wont be moving again in the near future, but if we did would definitely sell through them. As far as we are concerned, they are the best Estate Agency in the area to sell your property.
