The team from Murray were great at every step of listing and selling my house in Melton Mowbray. James valued, photographed and listed my property in good time and managed to find a buyer with no chain at the asking price within a week. Julia was fantastic at communicating all the details and updates with both sides of the purchase which made for a swift and smooth transaction. Thank you to all the team for making the whole experience a great one! Highly recommended.

I recently bought a house through Murrays Estate Agents in Oakham and had a really positive experience. Everything went smoothly from start to finish, and the team were friendly, helpful and professional throughout. I’d definitely recommend them!

From the start of our house hunting experience with multiple agents, Julia at Murray was by far the warmest and most genuine agent we have dealt with. And so we were delighted when our dream home came up with Murray and we were in her capable hands right up until we got our keys. She was fantastic at negotiating with the vendors on our behalf and patiently managing communication between all parties during a slightly bumpy conveyancing process. Thank you Murray and Julia.

I was interested in a studio flat in Stamford let by Murrays Oakham. The whole experience was stressful and unprofessional from the outset. The agent, Eleanor Burge, initially claimed that the property wasn’t available anymore but a few days later changed her mind because she said she didn’t like the sound of the tenant who had secured the property. In order to obtain the tenancy I had to pay 7 months’ rent in advance, plus a deposit and credit check fees because I had been living overseas, despite the fact that I had an employment contract with an income that was more than adequate to cover the rent. Tenants are routinely assumed to be untrustworthy and easy to make money out of and it was very unpleasant to be so treated. As I needed a place to live quickly, I reluctantly agreed to these terms. Upon arrival I discovered there was NO internet despite Murray confirming that it was available; in addition, the electric heating did not function and the place was absolutely filthy and needed cleaning before I could move in. Ms Burge seemed completely uninterested, and it took a whole week without heating for the landlord to finally show up and replace the heater. During his visit he sat on and broke one of the chairs (his property) and did not bother to fix, replace or even apologise for the damage. When I mentioned the filthy state of the flat when I took it, the landlord said Murray had told him it had been professionally cleaned which it had certainly not been. The internet issue was beyond a joke; I work mostly online so I could not work from home and it took 4 months for internet to finally be connected; a major reason for the delay was the landlord’s and Murray’s utter lack of interest in communicating with me or the managing agents of the flats to fix the issue (provide access to the locked area where internet cables needed to be installed). I was obliged to travel to my office every day which made life very inconvenient, not to mention that I had no phone signal at home and no TV. In this day and age this is completely unacceptable, akin to living without electricity or water. At a later date I reported to Mrs. Burge a broken showerhead resulting in a non functioning shower. She asked if I wouldn’t mind waiting until the landlord got back from holiday in two weeks to get it fixed, and it was only after insisting that this was unacceptable that Murray actually sent someone over to fix it. After 7 months I had the option to pay for the remainder of the tenancy up front again (5 months) or fork out £60 for credit referencing fees once again. I don’t know whether they actually did a credit check or just pocketed the money. It seemed evident to me that Murray are only interested in taking your money but don’t actually want to give anything in return. The poor service I received from both landlord and Murray prompted me to buy a property instead continuing to rent. In order to get my deposit back I had to agree to pay an additional £80 for cleaning and repair costs although I returned the place a far cleaner state then when I took the tenancy. Some minor ‘damage’ like scratches on a cupboard and a cracked wall plug were already there when I moved in! I believe every new tenant routinely gets charged for this every time, Murray takes money for so-called professional cleaners and puts it in their pockets.

My parents brought our family home from Murray’s 49 years ago , so when Mum moved into residential care she was keen they were the right People to help us sell. Grant gave a fair and honest valuation and as it was a remote sale the team handled all the viewings. Once we had found a buyer the Kathryn and all the team in Oakham were excellent and handled all communication and the process with speed and professionalism. They maintained this right up-to and beyond completion. They also recommend a first class conveyancer who is know handling the sale and onward purchase of our own home. First class service from a great local business …would definitely recommend …many thanks

Estate agency is not easy in this day and age. However, the team at Murrays work very hard to ensure the process is as good as it gets. They are responsive, communicative and experienced. I have used them many times now so that tells you that I trust them to do a good job.

We have just purchased a house which was marketed and sold by Murrays, and they also marketed and sold the next house above in the chain - two houses in a chain of four properties / five parties. We have been very disappointed with our communications with Murrays. A date was pencilled in as a completion date, and after waiting weeks for what we thought was the last piece of paperwork, we were told by Murrays 'Great news, they will start the searches now' - adding months on to the timeframe. Then the top of the chain had a property fall though and resumed their search from the beginning, and this was hidden from us as we waited month after month for them to 'be ready', not knowing they didn't even have a property. Much later, we discovered the house we were purchasing had no heating upstairs but was marketed as having such. When raising this, Murray's immediately took the mention of radiators off their website and the Rightmove listings and denied any responsibility for listing the house inaccurately, blaming the vendors for not checking the details. Less than a fortnight before completion, we'd receive end-of-the-day calls telling us the date was being pulled, causing so much stress we eventually asked for all comms to go through the solicitor. And on completion, they didn't arrange for us to collect the keys (our very efficient estate agent organised this for us), didn't congratulate us or check in that all was ok, nothing. Very disappointed and would not recommend.

Very professional estate agency. Use their services for both renting and house out and then selling it. On both occasions both the letting team and selling team were very good keeping us informed and giving advice when asked for and advising on things we were not aware of. Would thoroughly recommend Murray’s for both selling and as a rental agency.

We are in a position to buy. Viewed a property but they hadn’t got the key for a workshop that was with the house. We were very interested but asked if we could see the workshop. They said I’ll ring you when we have got the key. I wasn’t happy about that as we needed to make a decision regarding the property and we were wanting to make an offer so I suggested that I book a second viewing for 5 days later so that they had chance to get the key.. We met them at the property for the 2nd viewing. We took a tape measure etc and had decided to make an offer even though we still couldn’t get in the workshop so on the way home we popped in the oakham office to make an offer. We walked in and said we had just been to second view this property and a woman said we have just accepted an offer on it from a viewing the day before. The woman offered no sympathy and failed to sit us down and say.something like I’ll be in touch if it falls through or I’ll let you know of others that come up. if I was the owner I would be annoyed that they made no attempt to see if they got another offer from us knowing it was a second viewing and therefore there could have been an opportunity to make more money for the owners by having two independent bids. At no point where we told of the other viewing and had we known we would of made a decision prior to the other viewers. There was a complete lack of customer service and I came out saying well that was a complete waste of time having spent hours thinking about and visiting the property over the past few days. You should be ashamed of the appalling service. The woman in the office needs a customer facing course. I’d never use or buy from them. They do nothing to make you feel like they give a damn !!

We used Murray's to sell my late mother's bungalow. We were very happy with the service - beautiful photos for the marketing material and they found us suitable buyers on the first day of viewing. Everyone in the office was helpful and friendly.

Awful company.Lazy, greedy and rude. No idea how they are still operating. Do not use at all. NEED INVESTIGATED Where to start? Experience was poor from the beginning. Illegally listing houses with "No children" , "No dogs". Husband in receipt of a injury benefit (war) and Murray tried to tell us they couldn't accept any benefits of any kind. (illegal) Despite both of us receiving an additional income on top (should have been our first warning, however thankfully everything was documented.) They don't use up to date photos on the adverts. Found out our house photos were over 7 years old and not even slightly correct. Luckily we had viewed property and saw the true state of it. (TAKE YOUR OWN PHOTOS OF EVERYTHING) Was hundreds of pounds over priced. They were lucky our house sale had gone through or we would have walked away. Staff are not only rude and unprofessional but actually breaking laws due to their complete and utter incompetence. Hayley Scott of Murray Oakham Letting team, was one of the worst staff members I have ever come across rude, made up lies of the property condition (again luckily had our own photos) rifled through our belongings (like non inbuilt cupboards). Utterly obsessed with a scuff mark on the wall (which we had said several times we would happily paint over.) Yet when you actually needed her they completely ignore maintenance and emergency requests. It took nearly 7 months to fix a leak and a hole in the roof! Dangerous mould mounting up in one bedroom which was never fixed. Also had a porch that leaked into the electrical light in the hallway, stated several times it was due to the water coming from above, took photos and reported it (honestly it was probably an electric shock waiting to happen.) Had an electrician come to look at it (Steve). He said -obviously- he couldn't fix it until the leak had stopped above but would disconnect it until it was fixed. The light fixing then continued to dangle for months. Had health reports done due to mould and was advised to take legal action. Only when council got involved did they bother to return a single phone call. When they realised they would have to do something about the mould and horrific conditions they attempted to remove us from the property. Unlike Murray, both the council and myself were knowledgeable in housing law so thankfully were able to protect ourselves until we found somewhere new. During the searching time for a new property we were harassed, with emails, and had members of the property team of Murray turn up unannounced claiming to be there for a show round. (not happening.) and finally they claimed they were "fixing" problems within the house (probably saw £££ when they realised they could re-list it but would have to actually do some work.) The electrician finally returned when we were due to leave, Hayley Scott Murray Oakham lettings adviser kept trying to turn up when he was there, at the time I couldn't work out why (because they never fixed the leak in the porch) Then found out months later that they were having an affair! So not only ,totally unprofessional but disgusting. (and thank god I worked from home.) Before we left I found the landlords details, and wrote in great detail about how disappointed we were with the service and expressed how if he couldn't find another service provider, that his house was going to be left in an awful state. He eventually wrote back to us to say he a) Knew nothing about the problems and b) could we pay him for the rent we owed. We didn't owe him any rent, Murray had stolen his money and attempted to use this as an excuse to remove us from the property. How they thought they would get away with that I'll never understand as we had internet banking and could prove every payment??? They then backtracked and claimed it to be a mistake. (Which they never apologised for.) The imbecile landlord has since relisted with Murray. Terrible from the start; discriminatory, rude, liars, poor communication, terrible service providers and breaking the law at every opportunity.

Contacted over the weekend about a house they had for sale on Arnhill Road, Gretton! A women called me back and left a message as I was working. So I called back and no one was available, she then returned my call (in the end) and said I left her a message and she didn’t know what it was regarding, she was rude and sounded as if she didn’t want to be there! I said well someone left me a message this morning but strangely enough I work so I couldn’t answer. Her reply was well I don’t know what house You was on about. So I just gave up!! I feel sorry for the sellers as I’m chain free and was very interested. But heck no would I buy with an estate agent involved that is like this!

Murrays in Oakham helped my mum and I sell 3 houses in the area. Julia, in particular, was efficient, prompt, polite, helpful and diligent. She kept us constantly updated throughout the sometimes long process, always with good humour. We would recommend Murrays, Oakham if you are looking to sell or buy in the area.

All good. Great communication, always answered my questions ( I had many!) and got the job done pretty quickly and well under the market conditions. I really have no complaints. Used them to buy the house 45 years ago, and sell it . Just sad to be leaving this lovely country town.

Fantastic service from all the ladies in the sales office. Their communication was spot on.They were all very proactive throughout, from arranging viewings on my property, right through to completion. As a result of this, even though there was 9 people in our chain, it all went through smoothly. I would highly recommend.

Murray's lettings office in Stamford was great. And their team in Oakham provided excellent customer service throughout the duration of our tenancy. The Oakham team was always timely in their responses, and consistently addressed all of our requests for repairs with great speed and efficiency. Can't thank them enough for all that they did to ensure a smooth tenancy for our family!

Murrays know the Oakham area well. The team are easy to contact. and courteous. Viewings are arranged promptly and the staff that show one around are helpful - though they did not always know about access to odd corners like garage, loft, garden shed. My impression is that Murrays value properties rather higher than other estate agents, and above local going rates - which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it.
