GoogleHave some friends who has been having a lot of difficulty with purchasing their new home in Grey Towers, an experience which should be joyous and exciting has been nothing but heartache. A significant cosmetic defect in the structure of the exterior was discovered almost immediately before purchase, and, judging by the state some of the other builds in the area, on top of recent reviews of customer service, I'd steer well away until these matters get rectified. Very poor.

GoogleSite: Grey Towers Village, Nunthorpe
We were due to move in to our lovely new Barratt home, an Emmerdale on plot 328 in Grey towers village. One problem - the home was wonky, very badly out of plumb.
We were 1 day away from purchasing the property, luckily we held off.
When brought this up to Barratts we were told it was built within the guidelines therefore nothing would be done.
We asked if we could purchase at a lower price (keep in mind its visually defective, so re selling it would be an issue with something so glaring) However they pretty much declined any reduced price, or solution. And stated they would do nothing but fix other snags (snags completely separate and had nothing to do with the fact it was very wonky)
They made a comment on how it 'was upsetting' to see us post images of the home on facebook, when we simply were looking for external advice and feedback to the problem (we got hundreds of comments telling us it was completely unacceptable)
Overall we are very disappointed that the think the quality is acceptable. Using the excuse that timber houses sometimes aren't straight is not good enough. Of course there are tolerances - but this seemed way off.
We also spent a few thousand on solicitors before we backed out - so that's money down the drain - And due to the part exchange, the company selling our home for them put it at a lower price than our original listing, so now even our current property is worth less thanks to them...
I'd stay well away.

GoogleWe feel scammed by Barratt Homes.
We made a part-ex agreement to buy plot 328, only to find that the the exterior brickwork has a massive bulge in one corner, and all other walls slope inwards as they go up (images attached).
We were told that this is within tolerance (which I find hard to believe), but tolerance or not, this is a pretty major cosmetic defect and would effect our future selling price if we ever decided to move. Barratt Homes refused to acknowledge or apologise for the issue. The brickwork in general is also pretty poor.
We also asked about the black rubber under the window sills in the timber framed houses, as we were able to push our fingers right through into the brick wall cavity. When we asked whether insects could do the same (bee hives, etc), the construction site manager actually shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't know"?!
Naturally, we pulled out of the sale because of these issues and because we were offered no incentive to continue. Unfortunately, we now feel scammed because our house has been devalued as part of the part-ex agreement, and we are roughly 1k out of pocket for solicitors fees.
Avoid like the plague. Gleeson Homes (where we currently live) has better standards, and that's saying something.
