This agency should be subject to stricter oversight and regulation. While searching for housing options in Barcelona, I found their approach to be exploitative, taking advantage of clients in an already difficult and competitive market. The customer service has been extremely poor, showing no empathy or willingness to help. At one point, I was even told, "It’s the market," as if that justified their lack of support or inflated prices. Agencies like this contribute directly to the housing crisis and rising prices in the city.

My husband and I are currently living in the USA. Our dream was to purchase a house in Italy, so we searched on Gate-Away and approached several Italian estate agents. It was a very frustrating and unproductive endeavor until we found Elia Antolini from Engel & Volkers in Perugia. From our very first email correspondence I knew I had found the right person to be my eyes, ears and mouth in Italy. His ability to identify with our needs and his very good command of the English language made it possible for us to communicate freely and easily. On the subject of communication, Elia has been available for us morning, noon and night, bearing in mind that our day is his night. It was not unusual for him to contact us after he’d spent a full day in the office. He’d tell us he needed a bite to eat and then he was there for us again, often late into the night. His commitment to serving this customer has been impeccable. Most of all, his service is fast, efficient, productive and always positive. Elia possesses a charming, friendly and patient disposition. Nothing is too much for him. It feels like I’ve made a friend. To our absolute delight we found our dream home in no time at all. Elia’s thorough walk of the property and his ability to take detailed and professional videos of the house and land provided us with the information and confidence we needed to purchase from abroad. The entire purchase process was made simple thanks to his consistent guidance throughout. In fact, during the signing of the initial proposal, Elia was on vacation, and even then, he would respond to all my messages without fail. We could not have found a better person to assist us with the purchase of our dream home. He not only represents Engel and Volkers in the best possible light, he represents Italy, charming, friendly, beautiful Italy.

Despite the law governing rental fees in Barcelona this company do everything they can to squeeze fees from tenants. The old agency fee is now dressed up as a 'shopper fee'. When looking for a property we were asked to prove income of more than 5k net per month (for a rental of 1600 per month), after agreeing to this we were then asked to sign an agreement to give an introduction fee of over 2k if we took the property. This company clearly has no regard for the law and will do anything to cream money of tenants. never use these cowboys. Disgraceful!

In the Netherlands, Engel & Volkers is a renowned real estate agency in the higher segment. I thought Engel & Volkers in Italy would be a good, reliable party for purchasing a house. Unfortunately, this turned out to be an expensive disappointment. In Italy it is not about quality but about arranging the deal as quickly as possible and receiving the extreme brokerage fee that absolutely does not correspond to the work performed. What a huge disappointment!

Every property they have is either fake or an old listing that is not available, then they waste your time making you wait forever and at the end an excuse such as the owner no longer wants to sell or rent the property, this has happened in different countries so is not location specific, it’s the company marketing approach at which point you will have lost any other options you had.
