Money for nothing

Make no mistake they aren't worthy of even one star! This Hunters franchise (Sea Road Sunderland) and their so called MD Chris Kelly and his team failed to carry our property inspections and investigate complaints from neighbours in relation to the neglect and horrendous decline of my property over a three year period. We as landlords put our faith in the letting agent and trust they will do a good job in managing our properties. I'm now £7k down trying to repair the property to a good standard. The failure of this company to manage the property and the tenants has left me significantly disadvantaged. Mr Kelly has not responded to my many complaints and requests for compensation and has instead left the franchise, no doubt to make another fortune charging 15% off the back of other unsuspecting landlords! Hunters are a company well known and trusted in our area but be warned, these agents are hiding behind that brand and are able to operate without scrutiny or regulation!!

Are the staff in the Highfield Road…

Are the staff in the Highfield Road office volunteers on some sort of day release programme ? I can only presume so because no company management in their right mind would pay them to do NOTHING, my 3 messages to request a viewing fell on deaf ears, yet it is still available for rent, appalling behaviour, does the owner of the rental know who they have looking after their property, in this case they soon will, Land Registry gave me the owners details and I am in the process of asking the owner directly for a viewing appointment as their "representatives" are awol.

Prior to putting our property up for sale, my partner and I met with several agents from various local and national firms, but we both instantly felt that Paul at Hunters Horsforth was our man - genuine, enthusiastic, and extremely knowledgeable about both the local area and the property market. Paul was also confident he'd be able to achieve us a sale price substantially higher than his competitors had quoted... and he did! What's more, he did so in a shockingly short timeframe. We'd braced ourselves for the property to linger, but our sale was agreed in a matter of days. In the time leading up to completion there were a few issues with private sales further down the chain which, as sellers, was pretty nerve wracking - but Paul and the Hunters Horsforth team would always welcome a call where we needed to seek reassurance or updates, and never failed to communicate clearly and respond in a timely fashion. From a seller's perspective, the current market can be daunting to navigate, but we consistently felt in good hands with Hunters Horsforth. Thanks to Paul, we were able to sell our much-loved home for a price which made it significantly less painful to give it up, and we know that the house is in great hands with the lovely local family for whom he knew it would be perfect.

My brother and I were selling our childhood home after our late fathers passing. It was difficult with emotions as I had lived there for over 27 years and Hunters were always sensitive and supported us both throughout the whole process. A massive thank you also goes out to Sinead who went above and beyond. After the sale of the property I was struggling to find rental and it became very stressful. Sinead was able to find me a property in an area I was looking for, where I’m now living. Overall the communication was brilliant and I highly recommend using hunters for sales and lettings.

We chose Hunters of Horsforth because their business ethos matched ours and they seemed professional. They believe in getting to know their customers and building a relationship with both buyers and sellers to achieve the best outcome. Our experience was that the team went above and beyond this promise and our expectations.Ours was a complicated transaction involving the change of status from business to residential. Not only did the agency source tradesmen for essential electrical work but also arranged the purchase of appliances. The goal of the whole team was clearly to help us sell the property. They picked the best buyers who we liked very much. The property had sentimental value for us as well as financial. We wanted it to be in good hands. Hunters achieved this and a good price in an increasingly difficult market. We are very grateful to Paul, Emma and the team. We’ve worked with many estate agents before and have no hesitation in recommending them as the best we’ve dealt with. Thank you.

UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISHONEST

Hunters Stevenage is extremely unprofessional and dishonest!I want to caution everyone considering them before handing over a deposit, as they will go to great lengths to keep your money.I had been renting for eight years prior to this, in various properties with different agents, and never encountered any issues with the return of my deposit. It's incredibly frustrating trying to get a response from them, even through email. Without a doubt, they are the worst estate agent I've ever had to deal with. I lived in a rented house through them for nearly two years but recently purchased my own place through Own Homes (which hasn't had any issues).Hunters is currently refusing to refund my deposit after two months, citing a small rip in the carpet near the radiator pipe and a crack in the bath. Both of these issues were present when I first moved in.They are taking an unreasonable stance and are also claiming an inability to communicate with the landlord for nearly a month. They're even using minor issues like mold on the bathroom sealant and three burnt-out light bulbs as reasons not to return my deposit.Furthermore, after two months, they are now trying to deduct money from my deposit, citing a weed issue in the front garden.Letting Manager sent me an email at 7:14 PM, and immediately after that, I went to the house and took photos to document the situation. It's truly baffling how unreasonable they are being.I consistently paid the rent on time and took excellent care of the house while I was there, even installing a new shower. However, I'm currently facing issues retrieving my deposit, as I had to hire a cleaning company to restore the house to its original condition. This has been an ongoing process please be cautious when dealing with Hunters Stevenage!!!"

Awful experience

Awful experience. Poor repairs. Illegal eviction - should have been a section 8 as landlord was selling up and tried to use the deposit for renovating the property into a HMO. Hunters also charged the previous tenants for professional cleaning which we were told would be happening in the first week or so of moving in. It didn't. They then tried to charge us for the same service. Wonder how many customers they do this to. Also charging for items not on the property but given to a neighbor, and later thrown out by him on his own garden area q(he advised landlord and hunters it was his to get rid of). They have identified it as formerly mine from property inspection photos which legally should not be taken of my possessions. Con artists. Pending further action.

Total scammers!

Total scammers!! Do NOT recommend at all!! I rented with with them for 4 years, was okay at first then it gotten difficult to get things properly fixed, they left us without a fridge and freezer for over a year so I had to buy my own! They send out the same repair men that told me over and over again they could t properly fix various things as it needed updating and my landlord was refusing to update (handyman’s words not mine). We had a mice infestation that I had made them aware of but nothing was done and they ended up coming into the house eating through all my kids Easter eggs and our snacks and my sons make a wish documents amongst other important documents!! I had to pay for the infestation to be sorted, I have paperwork that states the things that needed doing to stop them and they didn’t do half of it!! There was insufficient loft insulation, single glazed windows and no wall insulation so it was beyond freezing unless I had the heating on constantly. They didn’t carpet or decorate in god knows how long!! I paid £2800 deposit to stay in this house!! They then said as I was pregnant there would be too many people living in the property so I said okay can I please have a rent statement to get onto the council and was told by corena she would email this to me but this went on for about 6 months and she then sends me an eviction notice instead so I said okay can I have the rent statement she still refused! A year later I get the rent statement.. then another eviction notice. Their reason was my landlords granddaughter had cancer and needed to sell up to pay for treatment (she knew one of my sons was a cancer survivor and she also knew my youngest son is fighting a brain tumour!) she used my personal circumstances as a tool against me. I tried so hard to move out quickly but eventually got a property with the council. She caused 2 years of horrifying mental breakdowns, I have adhd and so you can imagine the impact it had! She never done and entrance or exit inventory with me, she next done entrance or exit key handover so the crook covered her bases.!! This wasn’t her first rodeo!!I have been informed by neighbours of repairs etc carried out since I left the property and also about the new tennants living there so they never sold the property.Social services are trying to help get my deposit back, the so called deposit guarantee scheme said there was nothing they could do as it was never with them!! So I had a look on company’s house at them… I suggest if your considering renting from hunters you look on companies house at them too!! They are a bunch of scammers and they keep getting away with it!!They have now left us with absolutely nothing! I’m a single mum having to furnish and carpet a house with next to no money struggling to decide if my kids need a bed or food, carpets or gas, curtains or electric!! I was told a survey of dilapidation was being done and that turned out to not be true!! I have asked numerous times about my deposit and she doesn’t reply to nothing! She ignores everything. She has stolen £2800 from me and my children. I have 2 autistic children and 1 is a cancer survivor and 1 has a brain tumour I have a lot of worries already with them without this worry about loosing so much money that was needed to benefit my children. British Gas had to swap the meter as per the request from the ombudsmen and corena Harris told me I’d better put them back I have this and more in messages!! I said I can’t as that is breaking the law and she wasn’t happy at all.. the old meters didn’t work!! I can only hope people do not make the same mistake as myself and put their trust in these despicable people!! Have a look on companies house before considering renting from them!!£2800 is a lot of money for a single mum with 6 children and 3 of which are very poorly and one is fighting a brain tumour you ask yourself what kind of person does that!!

I put my house up for sale with Hunters and I have been extremely pleased with the service they have provided from the very beginning of the valuation, the marketing and through to the completion. A special thanks to Emma and Sinead who have been brilliant every step of the way; professional, helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend Hunters in Horsforth.

Sinead, Emma and the team at Hunters Horsforth have been fantastic throughout the sale of our house in Cookridge. They provided professional and friendly advice throughout and we sold at above the listed price within two weeks and had completed our move in under four months. We would highly recommend Hunters Horsforth to anyone looking to sell in the area.

I have just bought a house where the seller's estate agent was Hunters. two items to note : 1. their pestering me to prove I had the funds via endless email demands, then when my solicitor raised one issue, total ignorance for 2 weeks. Not good. 2. I feel for the seller in that they totally missed off the presence of a very long private tree-lined driveway, and a full size totally convertable loft.

Hunters Baldock as letting agents…

Hunters Baldock were the letting agents for a recent rental. I found them rude and difficult to the point of enjoying the power they had over me as a nervous tenant in an expensive and competitive market. They piled on the reasons why I might not get my deposit back (which they still have not returned) were useless with actual sums and dates and generally unpleasant.

I emailed this useless company 3 times over a period of three weeks to inform them that one of their properties had a wildly overgrown hedge and garden that was making the locality look a mess, and also impeding foot and mobility scooter traffic on the pavement. They didn't bother to reply ,so I reported the mess to the city council and wished them good luck in ignoring their emails ! Hopefully the council will do the work and bill these clowns !

Sinead, one of the senior sales consultants at Hunters Horsforth has been amazing, helping my daughter with the purchase of her first property. There was an issue with cladding status that was holding up the mortgage and Sinead and her team helped us get together all of the extra information that we needed. Would highly recommend them! Thank you :)

Do not use for rentals

Do not use for rentals. There is a cost of living crisis of which this company is taking advantage of it with overvalued properties and fees. I paid a holding fee which equates to one weeks rent whilst going through necessary checks. I was truthful that I had a little adverse credit from over 5 years ago but I had an amazing reference from my current landlord of 10 years (of which they knew him as he uses them for some of his properties) plus a steady job. It was taking this agent over a week to get back to me about anything, never returned calls and I was growing concerned. Unbeknown to me, if you also don’t earn three times the rent of the property, you will also fail their checks as they will deem you unable to afford payments. I tried arguing that I could afford it because even after rent, I still had over £1k left and it’s a little unfair to set such judgments on people. They even agreed that they knew I could afford it but it wasn’t up to them but down to their policies etc. I couldn’t get a guarantor which prompted them to say didn’t I have a partner who could move in to bump up the financial figures or guarantor me. Therefore I ended up losing my ‘holding fee’ which is a considerate sum and if this company does this to 10 people a week, they are making a packet for nothing. What gives them The right to put people over a barrel like this?!!! It’s extortion!!! Especially with the current climate and people needing homes and struggling with increasing prices of food, gas and electric. A house is a necessity, people need to live and be safe but this agent seems to be very discriminatory and setting unrealistic benchmarks.

I would never ever used this Company again. They failed to tell my tennent I was selling up, because of mortgage increases, I even even emailed them. Heard nothing so I assumed they had told the tennent. Two months later when I thought I'd have my property back, they told me they hadn't told the tennent. Also the tennent flooded my bathroom and cost me £2000 to fix!

I am very happy to be able to write a very positive review of Hunters who helped me and my family in both the selling and buying of homes. Sinead was lovely and when she showed us what turned out to be our present home, she just knew it was for us (we must have put out some positive vibes!), and from that moment on, we were kept fully informed of events as they occurred...Jenny and Emma were always there for us, too, oiling the wheels as we progressed, right up to Move Day. Thanks so much all of you! :-)

Hunters Estate - Demi May

Demi May was my first point of contact who communicated effectively and efficiently between me, the buyer, and the seller. Demi was amiable, astute listener and professional in the way she facilitated the next steps of the purchasing process. Her effective communication skills enabled me to secure multiple viewings with ease. I would strongly recommend Demi May to any company who is looking to appoint someone reliable, kind and proactive. The Amazing Sandra

I had a viewing in windmill road gillingham on saturday I was early for my appointment and greeted by sandra. I have had lots of viewings with other estate agents recently but sandra was def the best. Her professionalism was amazing she was very honest which is rare for most estate agents :) and she knew everything about each room before we stepped in it. Sandra's knowledge of the area was great regarding parking near by facilities. Clearly she did her research before the viewing. I feel she is a real credit to the company and everybody should learn from her how to conduct a viewing in a professional way. She should be the face of customer experience for the whole industry not just hunters. I understand this is a sales environment and results won't always reflect how good or valuable a person is but hunters def should invest in this one for long term as the old saying goes people buy from people. Thank you so much Sandra :)

My brother and I contacted Hunters recently in relation to a 6 bedroom detached house with extensive parking & gardens in Buntingford Hertfordshire. We arranged an appointment with their employee Laura. My brother and I were so impressed by Laura from our first meeting in relation to her knowledge of lettings. She proved herself to be highly efficient and courteous during the following week and arranged all the certification, photos & floor plans for the letting with the individual contractors and in addition to providing us with beautiful Client brochures posted it on Rightmove within a very short time scale. I would highly recommend Laura and Hunters.

I recently sold 3 houses with Hunters in Gateshead and I have to say Hunters did a job a great job for me. A couple of the sales were not straight forward but they managed to get the sales over the line and and showed great worth ethic and professionalism. Rob is always on the other side of the phone going the extra mile to help out. They also managed my rentals and did an amazing job finding me great tenants. I have no doubt in recommending their services to anyone looking to buy sell or rent property in Gateshead and around. Anthony Jowers
