Steer clear

Steer clear - they don’t allow you dispute any charges against the deposit (and even suggested that more charges ‘might be added on’ if we were to pursue any kind of appeal against them). They suggested they had done us a favour for not allowing the landlord to add illegal charges as a reason not to appeal the others. We had multiple experiences of rude and/or aggressive phone calls, in one case angry that we had underpaid on our final rent - only to find out it was their mistake and they had forgotten to invoice us weeks before. They also had no idea about our move out date (calling us to confirm move out with dates that were 2 weeks early, multiple times). Overall, it’s been a really stressful time consuming experience - don’t use them if you value your time.

A genuinely excellent agent

Pro-active, professional, friendly and interested in doing a good job. Jo from Dexters is all of these things. A true breath of fresh air and a delight to deal with. She can’t perform magic, no-one can, but she lets you know what she can do and how that’s going. She also gets an awful lot done too. Great liaison between landlord and managing agent. Agent phoned to cancel a viewing 15 minutes before it was scheduled. I had to travel an hour to get there. He told me to improve my offer or not to bother with the viewing. Then he tried to push other viewings, which I had never indicated any interest in. I told him I was not interested in those other properties, and he demanded, I think quite rudely, to know how I could be not interested when I hadn't seen them. Dude, I saw them on Rightmove. They suck. That's why I'm not interested in them and never was.All in all the experience left a nasty taste in my mouth.

Avoid this agency

They kept trying to push a 3 year contract on us, after a lot of back and forth we got it down to 2years and 3 months (still not ideal), we were also told the flat was unfurnished and then when we put our offer in they told us it was fully furnished which turned out to include an array of random items and ornaments, an old rusty meat grinder (I'm not even joking) none of which were mentioned before signing anything and they tried very hard to get us to keep the old, lumpy and stained mattress, which luckily after a lot and back and forth, we manged to get them to remove. When we moved in the flat was filthy and the garden was a tip.We had multiple problems during our stay, all of which took far too long to get resolved, one of which was a gas leak that Cadence had to come around to investigate and then turn our gas off, we informed dexters about this and then a few days after asked them again when someone would be getting sent out to fix the issue and they acted like it was the first time hearing about this.At the end of our tenancy they tried to charge us £300 for the garden and £120 for a "top up" clean even after showing proof we hired professional cleaners and evidence of how much cleaner and neater everything was now compared to how it was left to us. We obviously disagreed with them but they kept saying if we went to the TDS we would lose so there would be no point in trying but luckily we didn't listen to them and went to the TDS who fully agreed with us and we got our full deposit back which was great but a lot of effort to go through and a long wait just to get our deposit back.If you're looking to rent, then avoid dexters at all costs and if you're currently unlucky enough to be renting from them, then make sure to go to the TDS when they try to steal your deposit after your tenancy is up.

just particular agent

just particular agent, so they book a viewing to my place and I was concentrating on other stuff during the whole visit, and would expect the agent to answer the questions from the visitor. Yet, the visitor kept trying to ask me things e.g. the epc, tax band and whether the heater is electric while I believe the agent should know the answers (these are basic stuff), yet he just folded his arms and allowed the visitor to bother me. At the end, I just said 'you should ask the agent, he might know more.' Then the agent put a long face to me. The whole thing is unprofessional and ridiculous.

Unprofessional behaviour

Unprofessional behaviour and no comminication. In May 2023, my roommate and I were locked in our apartment due to a broken lock that was never repaired despite reporting the problem in October when we first moved in. Dexters management did not respond to us and for personal and health and safety reasons we had to leave the apartment, so we contacted an outside emergency agency and Dexters would not refund our money!!!!
