TrustpilotDo not use this estate agent
Would not recommend renting through Hunters - no communication, follow up or empathy from anyone here. Day one moved in- Leak all over the living area from a disconnected pipe that hadn’t been checked. Raised floorboards and bloomed worktop- No broadband access- No bins- Vent not fitted correctly in the bathroom(All reported no follow up from Hunters)1 month later - Still no broadband, bins arrive. Had to purchase expensive WiFi dongle in 12 month contract and unable to use electric car charger. - Phone line attachment broken and reported via Opeanreach -Had to chase Hunters for any action to be taken for the wifi for the whole apartment block2 months later- (Some) flats connected to broadband still some flats without wifi - low speed if usable- Our apartment was flooded with sewage water into the bathroom. - £150 to replace damaged bathroom goods - Pipes overflowing and all toilet/shower/sinks/washing machine and dishwasher unusable for 3 days- 3 days OFF work to facilitate fixing issues- Front door lock unstable logged 23rd July no follow up- Vent still hanging down in bathroom3 months in- Storage room ripped up from last month and no follow up from blocked pipes. Waiting to be flooded out- Stinks of sewage- No communication in over 3 weeks Do not care about welfare/lack of customer service. Shocking. I never write negative reviews and genuinely give people a bit of slack but this has been the worst I have experienced.

TrustpilotINCOMPETENT
Hunters listed a rental property two days ago and I had contacted them making an enquiry an hour after it was posted. No response. so I went online and found a book a viewing form and completed it. No response. The next day I emailed asking further about the property. No response. Today no call or no email, no response. So I call up and I am informed that they are fully booked for viewings and they probably wont do another one. Absolutely no communication. Zero customer service. An entirely incompetent estate agents. I had to drag the information out of them and at no stage was I contacted. The entirety of their reviews for 2024 details their utter incapability.

TrustpilotHunters Estate Agent review
Amazing service from start to finish .A special mention to Della who went above and beyond what was expected, Della's communication was fantastic even on her days off she would chase information and update us. Della was instrumental in the completion date and kept the chain together. We'd of been lost without her. Thanks Della. Highly recommend.

GoogleThe reason for my edit is quite simple, the process at the very beginning was brilliant, once you have then signed the dotted line that's when things quickly change.
We had ongoing issues with a property we rented from Hunters from December 2019 with severe damp, lack of ventilation in the bathroom and leaking shower/bath. Several times of reporting and photographic evidence of leaks happening post heavy rain, we were continually told it was due to us using the shower and that leaking, despite several attempts to rectify, the house remained having damp spots and leaks appearing every time it rained.
We handed in our notice in November 2020 and paid out for carpets to be cleaned and deodorised as we had agreed with having a dog at the property, we left the house cleaned with a small amount of damage to some lino in the kitchen when we removed the fridge.
We have photographs of the property as we left it, and since their inspection( to which we were not in attendance) they have now presented us with the damage bill that we have allegedly caused which nears £400! Absolutely disgusted in their entire dealing of the whole situation and as mentioned in previous reviews, they do whatever they can to charge people extortionate amounts!
I would never ever recommend Hunters for anything, I have rented with an exemplary history for nearly 20 years and this is the very first time I have been treated this way and I will have no hesitation in encouraging anyone NOT to use them!
Avoid avoid avoid.. Only given 1 star as I had to.

Dear Joanne
What a shame you felt it was necessary to edit the lovely review you left us when we went the extra mile, to move you in, because you have not liked our comments on your vacation of the property.
With reference to your comments:-
A contractor was instructed and he is prepared to go on record saying any delay was caused by diaries not matching and the difficulties were the various lockdowns due to the pandemic.
This was a refurbished property when you moved in as the first tenants. You vacated the property leaving the kitchen flooring ripped in two places, you had drilled several holes in the bedroom wall, plugged the holes and then left them with a dab of paint and there was a strong odour of your pet.
All we asked for after the landlord had visited the property and we had discussed our findings, was for the kitchen flooring to be replaced and the bedroom walls repaired and then redecorated. None of this seems unreasonable.
It is sad to be parting under these circumstances, especially after the awful year everyone has had and despite your change of heart, we wish you all the best going forward.

GoogleRented a property here, was told at the beginning not to worry about the short lease as the previous family lived there for years. So, spent upwards of £1000+ decorating and renovating making it a home awaiting arrival of a baby. Painted every single room, refreshed kitchen tiling, installed mirrors in the bathrooms, new tiling in bathrooms, roller blinds in bedroom, hive heating system, to name a few. To then be evicted after 6 months, with an 8 week old baby, with myself on maternity pay. With no reason whatsoever. Other than the landlord no longer wanting to rent out the property.
And lo and behold, barely a year later its back on rightmove for Rent. £100 more expensive a month. So basically, I put £1000 of my money and time into a house to make it more profitable for the owner. And we were evicted with a newborn for no reason. I had to take out a £2000 loan to be able to afford to move somewhere else. And now its back up for rent.
I asked Hunters at the time to see if the landlord would consider extending the eviction to give us more time, I also explained all of the work that went into it. They didn't didn't even bother getting back to me. Vile, heartless and despicable behaviour.
Overpaid an extra charge of rent one month. Took weeks to get it back. Was spoken to extremely un professionally, told to "calm down and go eat some cake" , because I wanted £695 back.

Dear Jade,
It is with genuine disappointment that I read your review, especially as it is nearly 12 months since you vacated.
As the agent, we have to follow the Landlords instructions and at the time your tenancy was agreed, nobody knew circumstances would change so radically and quickly. The Landlord of this property passed away unexpectedly and the family were advised for private reasons, the property needed to be vacant hence we gave you the Notice.
We did not have any problems with you as Tenants and would have looked forward to a long relationship but there was nothing we could do and the family were obviously devastated.
It took the family and the new registered owner nearly 12 months to deal with the various issues concerned with the Estate and this property. Again the family were acting on professional advice but the vacant period cost them dearly. It was only a month that we were approached by the new owner to ask if we could help find a new Tenant which from a business point of view, we were happy to do so.
This was a sad time for the family and I lost a good friend, but throughout it was the genuine belief that the actions taken at the time, were to protect you as the tenant and there was no gain for either the family or us as the Agent.
Finally, I am shocked about your "cake" comment and this would not form part of our normal vocabulary and if it was said could have only been in humour.
It is hoped that having read this you might reconsider your review and maybe remove it. I think everyone has lost enough including money a family member and good friend.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Appalling customer service from the stoke office and I'm not even one of their tenants, had the misfortune to be involved with a leak from one of their tenants, it took over 6 months to get to the repair stage which when done was really poor workmanship so I'm having to do it myself, the staff are unhelpful and don't care so if they treat third party tenants like that it must be really bad for their own tenants.

Hunters Northenden branch. Louis at Hunters could not have been more helpful. I was renting a retirement property for my father who was moving areas to be nearer us. Louis was very understanding of our needs and our urgency and we had everything sorted within 3 weeks. He was very efficient and answered emails very promptly. We couldn't have had a better experience.

TrustpilotHunters is a joke
I have had experience with Hunters in the past on multiple occasions. I am disappointed everytime from their lack of felixibility. For example if you're trying to rent and your annual income matches but does not excees what is expected by Hunters then they will abruptly cut you off. Also horrible customer service by the staff and do not know what they are doing. On a flat i called twice one staff member told me i had to satisfy an income of 29.000 pounds and another staff member told me i had to exceed 30.000 wich makes me doubt their honesty. I have had much better experiences with other agencies. Do not reccomend.

GoogleRecently sold a property with the Hunters team and I can only speak highly enough of everyone. They were all extremely helpful, supportive, responsive and most importantly honest. There were times when difficult feedback and recommendations needed to be given to myself but they did it in a constructive manner and without them the process would not have been as smooth as it was.

TrustpilotAn unfortunate attitude from Hunters
My boyfriend and I were purchasing a property through Hunters and they were pleasant enough. However, when we received the results of the independent survey two months down the line, it highlighted what we considered to be significant problems with the property, particularly the necessity of a whole new roof, and the replacement of brickwork.Naturally, we had not - and could not have - factored in the cost of these repairs, or the time it would take to carry them out, so we emailed our contact at Hunters in Sunderland, simply outlining the issues that the survey had presented, and attaching the report in full. The reply we received explained ‘The seller is not under any obligation to carry out any work or offer a reduction’. While true, this attitude seemed hostile to us, and rather unprofessional. We did not mention a negotiation of price, or the current owners carrying out the work themselves - although, to be frank, these did not seem unreasonable expectations. We had misgivings about how considerable an undertaking the repairs would be, both financially and physically, but were open to discussing options with Hunters/the sellers. However, we decided to withdraw from the sale, and Hunters’ attitude did play a big part in that. As a prospective buyer, you do not have a choice over which estate agent to deal with, but I would certainly be reticent about purchasing a property sold by Hunters in the future, and would strongly advise sellers to consider the overwhelmingly negative reviews on this page before engaging Hunters, as the wrong estate agent could scupper a sale, as in this case.

TrustpilotDishonest and unprofessional
We drove over 250 miles to view a house listed for let @ £900. We said we like it and were happy to proceed, after all similar properties down south cost £1000 a month….We were absolutely shocked when they got back to us, offering us the house for £1000 because they knew we could afford it… we were aghast! I have never ever encountered such skullduggery and dishonesty…. Of course we declined… how can one deal with such a dishonest estate agent as these!

TrustpilotWaste of time
As working professionals who can rarely get free time during the weekdays, it's extremely annoying to book days off to view properties to find they're by application, and we submitted our application the day we viewed, only to have the application be rejected because it wasn't processed in time before the landlord accepted an alternative application. Not worth the time.

TrustpilotHunters Horncastle:
Hunters Horncastle:If you are looking for an EA who keeps you updated and informed then I would NOT use Hunters, if you want the privilege of paying for doing your own work then by all means use this EA, also if you want to feel as though the EA is acting on behalf of the buyer instead of the seller… this is the one for you!!! They say the right things to get the initial business and then offer bad advise and never any follow up or conversations about the state of the market during contract period, even when requested. Also emails and WA messages were ignored. Worst Estate Agent I’ve ever used. It seems that Katherine (who did the viewings) and Susan (admin) seem to hold them just above water and do all the donkey work. Just my honest opinion!! Would have given zero rating if possible

TrustpilotI was buying a house through hunters
I was buying a house through hunters, wasn’t the best experience in the world. When it came to getting the keys from the bishop Auckland office, I was told to wait outside in the cold for 15 minutes, then presented with 1 key by itself, there was no congrats on your first home or any welcome gifts or anything, just here’s your key, see you later 👍🏼😂 got into the house, it wasn’t clean, the kitchen had been flooded which warped all the kitchen floor which I then had to pay to get it sorted. They should have done a check once the owners were out the house in order to make sure it was in a fit state and as seen on the viewings. I’ve since rented out houses around that area and stayed well clear of hunters, I would never use them again after the experience I had with them.
